Will Monster Hunter Wilds run at a stable 30 FPS on Switch 2?
That is Capcom’s stated goal for handheld play. In an interview with Kotaku published September 29, 2026, producer Genki Sunano said the team’s target was for the game “to run at a stable 30 FPS in handheld mode, even during four-player multiplayer hunts.”
The distinction matters: “target” describes what the developers are aiming for, not a result confirmed by published gameplay testing. TweakTown’s October 1, 2026 report likewise characterizes 30 FPS as a target rather than a tested result. The available reporting does not provide measured frame rates or show whether performance remains stable in retail gameplay.
Does the 30 FPS target include four-player hunts?
Yes. Sunano specifically included four-player multiplayer hunts in Capcom’s handheld 30 FPS target. That makes the claim more specific than a general frame-rate goal, but it remains a statement of intent: the reporting does not provide test footage or measurements from four-player sessions.

How is Capcom optimizing the Switch 2 version?
Sunano described the port as more than a straightforward reduction in graphics settings. He said Capcom wanted a “natural Monster Hunter Wilds experience” on Switch 2, rather than a simple port with graphics or performance scaled down. The reported work involved examining assets and their underlying processing individually, rebuilding some assets and shaders, and replacing visual techniques or internal processing with more efficient approaches for handheld hardware.
Those are Capcom’s descriptions of its development process, not independent technical measurements. Sunano characterized the work as a painstaking, sometimes seemingly endless series of decisions and optimizations intended to make handheld play comfortable while preserving the game’s look and feel.

Keeping visual changes from changing combat
Changing effects is not only a visual task in an action game. Sunano said the team checked modified visual-effect assets against existing hitboxes and collision detection. The goal was to make rendering more efficient without changing how attacks connect or how gameplay feels.
What is not yet established about performance?
The reports establish a handheld target, but do not state a resolution for handheld play or give a separate docked-mode resolution or frame-rate target. They also do not supply measured performance for solo play, multiplayer, or other demanding situations. There is not enough published evidence here to compare Switch 2 performance directly with other versions of the game.

When does the Switch 2 version release?
The reports conflict on the date. Kotaku’s September 29 article says December 4, 2026; TweakTown’s October 1 article says December 5, 2026. The available reporting does not resolve the discrepancy, so the exact release date should be treated as unconfirmed pending an official announcement.

Sunano said Capcom plans to apply lessons from the port to performance improvements on existing platforms ahead of Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance. The reports do not quantify the improvements or specify what players should expect, so no particular performance gain can be inferred.
