As of October 13, 2026, Rockstar has not confirmed that GTA 6 will let you customize radio stations, add your own music, or skip songs. Rockstar has revealed six stations and promised the biggest, widest-ranging in-game radio and podcast selection in the series, but its announcement does not describe playlist editing or song-skipping controls. GTA V’s PC Self Radio makes those features plausible, yet it is only a precedent—not evidence that the same system will appear in GTA 6.
What Rockstar has confirmed about GTA 6 radio
Rockstar’s official GTA VI music announcement, published October 8, 2026, previews six stations:

- Afro Bank FM
- The Chamber
- Flash FM
- Dirty South Classics
The announcement says the game spans formats from classic rock to talk radio and describes GTA VI as having the series’ “biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio and podcasts yet.” That is a description of the breadth of the audio lineup, not a specification of player controls. The six names are a preview, not a statement that they are the complete station list.
Nothing in that announcement confirms any of the following:
#1 Best Overall
- This product contains a download code inside the box — no disc is included. Customer shipments will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load; game is playable starting November 19. Code can only be used by users holding an account for PlayStation registered to the US or Canada.
- Pre-order to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
- Editing a station’s playlist
- Skipping an individual song
- Skipping directly to another station’s current track
- Importing personal music
- Creating a custom station
- Removing songs or artists from a station
- Changing the order in which songs play
Rockstar also announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, with vinyl and CD pre-orders and a November 19 release date for the album. That is a separate soundtrack product. The album announcement does not indicate that album tracks can be imported into the game or used to control in-game radio.
Does “customize” mean playlists, personal music, or something else?
Players use “custom radio” to describe several different features. Keeping those meanings separate is important because Rockstar has not confirmed any of them for GTA VI.
Editing an existing station
This would let you disable songs, artists, adverts, or DJ segments while keeping the station’s identity. For example, a player might want the station’s genre but not a particular track. No GTA VI announcement describes an editing screen, blacklist, favorites system, or equivalent control.
Skipping songs
A skip button normally advances to the next track without changing stations. It could be available everywhere, limited to player-created playlists, or disabled during DJ links and adverts. Rockstar has not said which, if any, behavior GTA VI uses.

- STUNNING VISUALS — Enhanced levels of fidelity and performance with new graphics modes featuring up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, HDR options, ray tracing, improved texture quality, and more
- FASTER LOADING — Quicker access to the action as the world of Los Santos and Blaine County load in faster than ever before.
- ADAPTIVE TRIGGERS AND HAPTIC FEEDBACK — Feel every moment through the DualSense controller, from directional damage to weather effects, rough road surfaces to explosions, and more.
- TEMPEST 3D AUDIO — Hear the sounds of the world with pinpoint precision: the throttle of a stolen supercar, the rattle of neighbouring gunfire, the roar of a helicopter overhead, and more.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the European version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
Adding your own music
This is the most expansive interpretation: the game would scan music stored on the console or computer and present it as a station. The official GTA VI material does not mention user-provided files, supported formats, local storage, or a custom station tool. Do not treat the existence of GTA V’s PC feature as confirmation that GTA VI supports personal music.
Choosing from a larger station lineup
Changing between the stations Rockstar provides is different from customizing them. The announcement confirms multiple stations, but it does not publish the full lineup or explain whether the radio wheel, shortcuts, or other controls have changed.
What GTA V can—and cannot—tell us
Rockstar Support’s guide, last updated April 30, 2024, documents Self Radio for GTA V and GTA Online on PC. It is the clearest official precedent for personal music and song skipping, but its scope is narrow: the instructions apply to the PC versions of those games, not to GTA VI and not automatically to consoles.

The documented process uses supported, non-DRM files in the game’s User Music folder. The listed formats are MP3, WMA, and M4A. After the files are added, the player configures Self Radio and selects one of three playback modes.

- Prepare supported MP3, WMA, or M4A files that do not contain digital-rights-management restrictions.
- Copy those files into the GTA V User Music folder on the PC.
- Open the game’s Self Radio settings and select a playback mode.
- Use the mode-specific controls to move through the music and check that the files are recognized.
The important detail is that the modes do not behave the same way:
| GTA V PC Self Radio mode | What it does | Can you skip songs? |
|---|---|---|
| Sequential | Plays the files in sequence. | Yes, according to Rockstar Support. |
| Shuffle | Plays the files in a random order. | Yes, according to Rockstar Support. |
| Radio | Adds radio-style adverts and DJ banter while playing tracks randomly. | No. Rockstar’s guide says this mode does not permit skipping. |
That table explains why reports that “GTA lets you skip music” can be misleading. In GTA V, skipping depends on the selected Self Radio mode. The radio-style mode deliberately trades direct skipping for DJ links and adverts.
Why this precedent is not confirmation for GTA VI
GTA V’s implementation depends on a PC folder and local files. GTA VI has been announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, where the same file-folder workflow is not established by Rockstar’s announcement. Even if Rockstar reuses the concept, it could change the supported platforms, file handling, station behavior, or skip rules.
There is also no statement that GTA VI will include a Self Radio equivalent under another name. The official music page discusses stations and podcasts, not a local-music pipeline. Therefore, the most accurate wording is that GTA V demonstrates Rockstar has used customizable music before on PC, while GTA VI’s implementation remains unknown.

What is likely to be known before release?
Feature information can change between a music preview and launch. A reliable update should come from an official Rockstar product page, support article, gameplay presentation, or an in-game settings demonstration. When a new claim appears, check four details before treating it as confirmation:
- Platform: Is the feature explicitly for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC? A PC-only feature from an older game does not establish console support.
- Scope: Does the statement cover GTA VI itself, or only GTA V, GTA Online, a soundtrack product, or a companion service?
- Control: Does it say “skip,” “customize,” “favorites,” or “change station,” and are those terms defined? They are not interchangeable.
- Mode restrictions: If a skip function exists, does it work during DJ banter, adverts, podcasts, or only in a personal playlist?
Until Rockstar supplies those details, headlines or social posts that show a radio wheel should not be read as proof of playlist editing or personal music. A station selector demonstrates station selection; it does not demonstrate song skipping.

Take-Two’s publisher announcement dated June 24, 2026 lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with an announced release date of November 19, 2026. It also says the physical edition will be sold through global retailers.

What the soundtrack album does—and does not—provide
Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album is related to the game’s music marketing but does not answer the radio-control question. Rockstar’s page references physical vinyl and CD formats and describes the album as a separate release. The album’s reported 34 tracks refer to the album itself, not to the number of songs in GTA VI’s in-game stations or the number of stations available to players.
Buying a physical album therefore cannot be treated as a way to obtain a custom station, unlock skipping, or add music to the game. Those controls would have to be implemented in the software and documented separately.
What players can safely expect at launch
Based on the information available on October 13, 2026, the safest expectations are:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- GTA VI will include multiple in-game radio stations and podcasts.
- Rockstar has publicly previewed Cocotea, Back Country, Afro Bank FM, The Chamber, Flash FM, and Dirty South Classics.
- The company describes the overall radio and podcast selection as its broadest yet.
- Station customization, user music, and song skipping are unconfirmed.
- GTA V’s PC Self Radio is a useful comparison, but its features and mode restrictions should not be transferred to GTA VI without an explicit statement.
- The announced launch platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with November 19, 2026 as the stated release date.
If radio controls are central to your buying decision, wait for a GTA VI-specific description of the feature rather than relying on GTA V guides. Look for wording that identifies the platform, names the control, and explains whether it works in every station mode. Until then, the answer to “Can you skip songs in GTA 6?” and “Can you make a custom radio station in GTA 6?” is the same: Rockstar has not confirmed it.
