Grand Theft Auto VI is not confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2. As of October 13, 2026, Rockstar’s official platform information lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but not Nintendo’s newer console. Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard also said there was nothing to announce and directed the question to Take-Two and Rockstar. There is no announced Switch 2 release date. A future port has not been ruled out, but buying the console on the expectation that GTA VI will arrive would be speculation.
What Rockstar has officially confirmed
Rockstar’s current GTA VI platform and editions support page names two console families: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch 2 does not appear on that list. That omission matters because the page is Rockstar’s own current reference for supported platforms and launch editions, rather than a retailer listing or an unverified report.

| Platform | Status in Rockstar’s current information | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Officially listed | A supported launch platform in the reviewed information. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Officially listed | A supported launch platform in the reviewed information. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Not listed | No official confirmation, edition details or release date. |
“Not listed” is not the same as “cancelled” or “impossible.” It means Rockstar has not publicly committed to a Switch 2 edition in the information available at the stated date. Platform plans can change, so the support page should be checked again immediately before publication or purchase.

In a report dated October 10, 2026, MeriStation attributed a response about GTA VI to Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard, following a Variety interview. Her reported Spanish words were: “Esa es una conversación para Take-Two y Rockstar. Yo no tengo nada que anunciar por mi parte.” The translation is: “That’s a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar. I have nothing to announce on my end.”

- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
This is a statement of non-announcement, not a rejection. Pritchard did not say Nintendo Switch 2 would never receive the game, and she did not provide a schedule. She indicated that any platform decision is a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, the companies that control the game’s publishing and development decisions. Because this is a news report of an interview, readers should check the original Variety interview and Rockstar’s own platform information if a new announcement appears.
Why Switch 2 specifications cannot answer the question
Nintendo’s published Switch 2 specifications provide useful information about the hardware, but they do not prove that Rockstar has decided to port GTA VI. The console uses a custom NVIDIA processor, includes 256 GB of internal storage and has a 7.9-inch display with a 1920×1080 resolution. Nintendo estimates battery life at approximately two to 6.5 hours, depending on the game.
| Switch 2 specification | Published figure | What it does—and does not—establish |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Custom NVIDIA processor | Describes the device architecture; it does not confirm a GTA VI build. |
| Internal storage | 256 GB | Indicates available built-in space, not the eventual size or storage requirements of GTA VI. |
| Screen | 7.9 inches, 1920×1080 | Describes the handheld display, not game compatibility or performance. |
| Estimated battery life | Approximately 2–6.5 hours | Nintendo’s game-dependent estimate; it is not a GTA VI test result. |
A technically capable system can still miss a particular game because of development cost, graphics settings, memory targets, certification, business priorities or release timing. Conversely, a game can be adapted through changes to visual quality, streaming, storage or other systems if its publisher chooses to fund that work. None of those possibilities is evidence of an actual port.

Could a Switch 2 version still be announced later?
Yes, it could be announced in the future, but there is no reliable basis for assigning a probability or date. Three outcomes remain possible:
A later official port
Rockstar or Take-Two could announce a Switch 2 edition after the initial console release. Such an announcement would need to specify the platform, edition, timing and any technical or content differences. Until that happens, articles, social posts and retailer placeholders should not be treated as confirmation.
A delayed release after other consoles
A publisher sometimes announces additional platforms separately or schedules them later. If that approach were used here, the later announcement—not the existence of earlier PlayStation or Xbox versions—would establish Switch 2 support. No such announcement is present in the reviewed information.

No Switch 2 edition
Rockstar may ultimately keep GTA VI on the platforms it has named. The current omission does not predict that outcome, but it does mean readers should plan around confirmed systems rather than an unannounced conversion.
What earlier GTA releases on Nintendo systems tell us
Take-Two announced Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch in 2021. Earlier Grand Theft Auto releases have also appeared on Nintendo platforms. Those facts show that the companies have released GTA products on Nintendo hardware before, but they do not establish support for GTA VI.
Older games can have different engines, visual targets, memory demands, licensing arrangements and production schedules. A previous port is therefore historical context, not a promise that the newest entry will follow the same path. The same distinction applies to merchandise: Rockstar’s official GTA VI page references items such as official merchandise and a Collector’s Box, but those products are not evidence of a Switch 2 edition.
If you want to play GTA VI at release
The official alternatives in the reviewed Rockstar information are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Choose between them using practical factors rather than an unconfirmed Nintendo port.
| Decision factor | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Existing game library | Favor the console that preserves the digital purchases, discs, subscriptions and accessories you already use. |
| Friends and multiplayer ecosystem | Choose the platform where your regular playing group already has accounts and memberships. |
| Preferred store | Consider which digital storefront, refund rules and payment setup you prefer. |
| Budget | Compare the console, required accessories, online-service costs and the game itself as a complete setup. |
| Hardware variant | Within each console family, compare the available storage, disc options and form factor before purchasing. |
A PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S is the lower-risk choice for someone whose priority is playing on a platform Rockstar has already named. A Switch 2 can still be a sensible purchase for its own Nintendo library, portability and features, but GTA VI should not be part of that purchase calculation until Rockstar confirms it.

What the current physical edition information means
Rockstar’s support information says the physical edition is a box containing a download code and will not include a disc. That description belongs to the editions and launch logistics Rockstar has documented for its currently listed platforms. It does not indicate that a Switch 2 version exists, nor does it tell us how a future Nintendo edition would be packaged.

If you see a retailer page describing a Switch 2 cartridge, code or release date, treat it as a listing that may be based on assumptions until Rockstar or Take-Two publishes matching details. Retailers can create pages early, change product data or remove listings without establishing a platform commitment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to check for a real Switch 2 announcement
- Start with Rockstar. Open the current GTA VI platform and editions support page and look for Nintendo Switch 2 by name. Confirm that the listing includes more than a search tag or user-generated reference.
- Check Take-Two’s corporate announcement. A publisher statement should identify the platform and, if available, a release window or date.
- Look for Nintendo’s own confirmation. Nintendo’s news channels or a first-party store listing can corroborate a platform announcement, but they should agree with Rockstar or Take-Two’s information.
- Verify the edition details. Check whether the announcement covers a native Switch 2 release, a cloud version, a bundle or another format. Those are materially different products.
- Check the date and region. Release timing, storefront availability and physical packaging can differ by country. Do not treat a regional listing as worldwide confirmation.
Use the announcement itself as the evidence. A rumor, an analyst’s prediction, a fan-made box image, a leaked retailer page or a performance theory can be interesting, but none changes the official status.
Common misconceptions to avoid
“The hardware is powerful enough, so it is confirmed.”
Hardware specifications describe capability, not publisher intent. They cannot establish that a development team has built, tested or submitted the game for Nintendo’s platform.
“Nintendo’s president ruled it out.”
The reported comment said Nintendo had nothing to announce and directed the question to Take-Two and Rockstar. It did not rule out a future release.
“The Trilogy on Switch guarantees GTA VI.”
The 2021 Trilogy announcement demonstrates prior Nintendo support for older GTA software. It does not guarantee that a new entry with different technical and commercial requirements will be ported.
“A product page proves the date.”
Only an official platform announcement can establish a release date. Retail data can be incomplete, provisional or wrong.
What Switch 2 owners should do now
- Keep playing the Nintendo games that motivated your Switch 2 purchase instead of treating GTA VI as part of the system’s confirmed library.
- Do not pay a premium or buy duplicate hardware solely because of an unverified port claim.
- If playing GTA VI near launch is essential, plan around PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, the two platforms currently identified by Rockstar.
- Recheck Rockstar’s platform page when a major trailer, release update or Nintendo hardware announcement occurs.
- When an announcement arrives, verify whether it is a native version, its release date, its storage requirements and whether its physical package uses a cartridge or a download code.
The practical answer today is straightforward: GTA VI has confirmed PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S support, while Nintendo Switch 2 support remains unknown. The future can change, but readers should make present-day buying and release plans from the platforms Rockstar has actually listed.
