For US readers, Amazon’s published Trade-In information does not establish that CDs are eligible. Amazon does describe music discs as a marketplace category, which may let you list individual CDs, but that is different from Amazon buying your collection directly. Check current eligibility, fees and shipping costs before listing anything.
What “selling CDs to Amazon” can mean
There are two distinct possibilities: Amazon may offer a direct trade-in for an eligible item, or a seller may list an item for sale on Amazon’s marketplace. The official US Trade-In terms describe gift-card payment for accepted items and require a valid return address in the contiguous United States; they do not name CDs as accepted items. Amazon’s overview describes trading in old electronics, not music media. Read Amazon’s current Trade-In terms and Trade-In overview before relying on the program.

Marketplace selling is a separate route. Amazon seller information identifies music discs as a category, and Amazon UK’s selling page explicitly includes CDs among sound recordings. Those category descriptions do not guarantee that a particular CD can be listed, that every seller qualifies, or that Amazon will make you an offer. What the Amazon Japan announcement does—and does not—tell you
Amazon Japan’s press center announced a CD buyback service in July 2013. That announcement is historical, Japan-specific evidence; it does not prove the service still operates, that it accepted every CD, or that a comparable program exists in the United States. How to decide whether marketplace selling is worth the effort
Listing CDs one by one can make sense when you want to price titles individually, but the sale price alone is not your return. Estimate what would remain after applicable fees and postage, then weigh that amount against the work of identifying editions, checking listings, creating offers, packing orders and handling fulfillment. Current US CD fees and typical sale prices are not established by the cited information, so check the live seller terms and comparable offers rather than assuming a fixed return.
- For common titles: Compare the likely net proceeds with the time and effort of individual listings. Convenience may matter more than maximizing each disc’s price.
- For unusual or potentially collectible releases: Identify the exact edition before choosing a selling route. Artist and album title alone are not enough to establish what a particular pressing may be worth.
Amazon Resale is also not the same thing as a consumer buyback program. Amazon describes Resale as inventory of used, pre-owned or open-box products; that description does not establish a route for selling your CD collection directly to Amazon. See Amazon Resale.

Before choosing another buyer
If you consider a different buyer or marketplace, verify its current terms directly rather than assuming it accepts your collection. Check which titles and conditions qualify, whether there is a minimum quantity, how shipping or collection works, how payment is made, and when a quote expires. Compare actual quotes on convenience, expected net proceeds, time, handling and whether you can price collectible editions individually.
