The model must meet the current phone and app requirements, your account must be eligible for Google Health app setup, and region-dependent features such as tap-to-pay must be supported for both your country and your bank. Warranty and customer support can also depend on the country where the device was purchased.
Before importing one, check the exact model, your phone, the services you need, and the purchase-region warranty. A lower overseas price is not a good deal if a required payment feature is unavailable or returning a defective device is impractical.

Compatibility has four separate gates
An imported Fitbit does not have one universal “works” status. Evaluate these gates independently:
- Phone and app: your handset must satisfy the current operating-system and compatibility requirements.
- Account: setup requires a Google Account, with Fitbit account migration rules applying on Google’s stated date.
- Local services: payments and other online features can depend on country, device model, bank, or service availability.
- Warranty and support: coverage and support channels may follow the country or region of purchase rather than where you live.
Fitbit’s Terms of Service explicitly state: “Fitbit Content and the Fitbit Service may change from time to time or vary by geographic location.” The terms were last updated February 27, 2026 (Fitbit Terms of Service).

1. Check your phone before buying
Use Google’s current Google Health app requirements, not an old Fitbit-app compatibility list. The setup page specifies Android 11 or higher and iOS 16.4 or higher (Google Health app setup requirements).
| Phone check | What the current guidance says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Android 11 or newer | Open your phone’s system information and verify the Android version before ordering. |
| iPhone | iOS 16.4 or newer | Install the latest available iOS update your iPhone supports, then recheck compatibility. |
| Named compatibility warnings | Huawei P8 Lite, Huawei P9 Lite, Xiaomi Mi 6, and Huawei P20 Lite may have compatibility issues even when they meet the operating-system requirement. | Treat one of these models as a risk case; do not assume the OS number guarantees setup. |
| Exact model | The requirements apply to the app and phone combination, while device features vary by Fitbit model. | Record the imported Fitbit’s precise model name and generation before comparing specifications. |
Meeting the operating-system minimum is necessary, not a promise that every phone function will behave perfectly. Install the current app, enable the permissions it requests, and keep the phone nearby during first-time setup. If the app cannot find the tracker, update the phone and app, restart Bluetooth, and retry setup before concluding that the overseas hardware is region-locked.
2. Make sure your account can be used
Fitbit setup now requires a Google Account. Google says Fitbit-account users need to move to a Google Account to access the Google Health app beginning May 19, 2026 (Google’s setup guidance).

If you already have a Fitbit account
- Identify the Google Account you intend to keep using. Avoid creating a second account simply to activate an imported device.
- Follow Google’s migration prompt when it appears in the app or account settings.
- Confirm that your historical Fitbit data and subscriptions are associated with the Google Account you will use on the new phone.
- Sign in with that same account during setup of the imported tracker.
An overseas sales region does not by itself create a separate account type. The practical issue is whether you can sign in and complete the migration or setup process under Google’s current rules.

3. Treat payments as a separate regional compatibility test
Tap-to-pay is the feature most likely to fail despite successful pairing. Google Wallet for Fitbit requires all three of the following: a supported Fitbit device, a supported country or region, and a participating bank or card. Google’s official instructions list supported devices and maintain separate country and bank requirements (Tap to pay with your Fitbit device).
Use the three-part Wallet check
- Device: confirm that your exact model appears in the supported-device list. Charge 6 is one example of a listed device, but the model name alone proves nothing about your country or card.
- Country or region: check that your home country is included in the supported-country list, rather than assuming the country where the Fitbit was sold controls eligibility.
- Bank: check the participating-bank list for the bank and card network you actually plan to add. A supported country does not mean every local bank participates.
Only when all three checks succeed should you treat Fitbit Wallet as an expected feature. If your card, bank, or country is absent, the tracker may still record activity and sync normally, but tap-to-pay should not be part of the purchase decision.
Why the seller’s country is not enough
A device sold in one market can be physically identical to one sold elsewhere while the payment service is governed by your account, bank, and location. Do not infer payment eligibility from packaging language, a retailer’s “NFC” description, or a successful Bluetooth connection. Recheck Google’s lists immediately before purchase because financial-service participation can change.

4. Separate product sales from service availability
Google’s regional product page lists which devices and services are offered in particular countries, including Charge 6 in a number of markets (devices and services available in your region). That page is a sales-availability list; it should not be used as proof that every Fitbit feature behaves identically in every listed country.

Google also published Fitbit.com sales changes for specific markets. The update says Fitbit.com sales stopped in these EU countries: Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Romania, and Slovakia. In APAC, it names Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Select retail partners continued sales in the affected EU markets, and support for devices already owned continued (Fitbit.com Updates).
| Region or market group | What Google’s update records | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Named EU countries | Fitbit.com sales changes; select retail partners may continue selling devices; existing-device support continues. | Check current local retailers and support terms rather than assuming Fitbit.com availability. |
| Named APAC countries | Fitbit.com sales changes; existing-device support continues. | Availability through another seller does not guarantee every local service. |
| Other countries | Consult Google’s current regional product list. | Do not extrapolate from a neighboring country’s listing. |
The update records historical Premium billing milestones as well: auto-renewals for Fitbit Premium memberships bought from Fitbit.com stopped on October 24, 2023, in the listed EU countries and on August 11, 2023, in the listed APAC countries. Those dates describe the published billing changes; they do not establish the current availability of every paid service.
5. Check warranty and support in your home country
Warranty protection is purchase-region sensitive. Google’s warranty guidance says: “If you bought it in a different country or region, check the warranty that came with your product.” It also warns that if Google does not sell the product in your country or region, online or phone support may not be available there (File a warranty claim for your Fitbit device).
Questions to answer before importing
- Who is the legal seller: Google, an authorized retailer, or a marketplace seller?
- Does the included warranty name the country or region where claims must be filed?
- Can you ship the device to that country, and who pays return shipping?
- Is local-language phone or online support available?
- Will the seller provide an invoice showing the purchase date and model?
Keep the original invoice, serial number, packaging, and warranty document. A local retailer may offer easier returns even when the imported unit itself would pair successfully. Conversely, a marketplace listing may advertise an international model without explaining where a warranty claim must be made.

6. Compare an import with a local purchase on the right axes
Compare the two offers using the same model and the same required features. The country printed on the box is less important than the following evidence.
| Decision axis | Import question | Local-purchase question |
|---|---|---|
| Model and features | Is the exact model listed for the feature you need, especially Wallet? | Does the locally sold model provide the same required feature? |
| Phone and account | Does your phone meet Android 11/iOS 16.4 requirements, and can you use a Google Account? | Are the same app and account requirements met? |
| Country and bank | Is your home country supported, and is your bank participating? | Do local payment rules and your card qualify? |
| Warranty and support | Where must a claim be filed, and is support offered where you live? | Can you use a nearby seller or local support channel? |
| Total cost and returns | After shipping, taxes, currency fees, and possible international return postage, is the saving still worthwhile? | What is the return window and replacement process? |
The last row is a financial decision, not a published Fitbit compatibility specification. Calculate the complete landed cost and assign a value to the inconvenience of an overseas return before treating the sticker price as a saving.
7. A practical pre-purchase procedure
- Write down the destination country and exact model. “Fitbit” is not specific enough; record the model and generation shown by the seller.
- Verify your phone. Confirm Android 11 or later or iOS 16.4 or later, and check whether your handset is one of the four models named as potentially problematic.
- Verify the account. Make sure you can sign in to the Google Account you plan to use and understand the May 19, 2026 migration requirement if you still use a Fitbit account.
- List must-have services. Separate basic tracking and synchronization from payments or other services that may be geographic.
- Run the Wallet checks. Confirm the device, country, and participating bank independently on Google’s current Wallet page.
- Check regional availability. Look up your country on Google’s product-availability page and read any Fitbit.com market update that applies.
- Read the warranty before paying. Find the claim country, support channel, proof-of-purchase requirement, and return-shipping responsibility in writing.
- Compare landed costs. Include delivery, taxes, payment conversion fees, and the cost of returning a faulty unit internationally.
- Save evidence. Keep screenshots or PDFs of the listing, model number, warranty, and the relevant support pages on the purchase date.
8. Troubleshooting an imported Fitbit that will not work
The phone cannot find the device
Confirm the OS version, update the Google Health app, charge the Fitbit, restart Bluetooth, and repeat setup with the phone nearby. If the phone is a Huawei P8 Lite, Huawei P9 Lite, Xiaomi Mi 6, or Huawei P20 Lite, the named compatibility warning remains relevant even after an OS update.
Setup stops at account sign-in
Use the Google Account intended for long-term ownership. If the device was previously associated with another account, complete the account or ownership steps shown by the app rather than creating multiple accounts. Fitbit account users should follow Google’s migration process before the May 19, 2026 access deadline.

Tracking works but tap-to-pay does not
Recheck the Wallet device list, your country or region, and your exact bank and card. Successful syncing does not override any of those three requirements. If one is unsupported, treat payments as unavailable rather than repeatedly resetting the tracker.
A warranty claim is refused or unavailable
Read the warranty supplied with the product and contact the seller or the support channel for the purchase region. Google’s guidance allows for support limitations where the product is not sold locally, so an overseas claim may require international shipping or seller assistance.
When an overseas Fitbit is worth considering
An import can make sense when the model is clearly identified, your phone and Google Account qualify, you do not depend on a region-limited feature, and the warranty and return route are acceptable. It is a poor fit when tap-to-pay is essential but your bank is not listed, when your phone is one of the named compatibility-risk models, or when the apparent saving disappears after international returns and support limitations.
Use the official pages again on the day you order: app requirements, Wallet eligibility, warranty guidance, and regional availability. They answer different questions, and none substitutes for the others.
