Choose the WiiM Bar if you want a stated 3.0.2 Dolby Atmos/DTS:X layout, top-firing height drivers, a built-in display, broad music casting and a path to compatible wireless surrounds and a subwoofer. Choose the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) if you prefer Sonos control, AirPlay 2, Trueplay room tuning, compact dimensions and documented dialogue and night-listening modes. Neither can be declared the better-sounding bar from specifications alone: no independent head-to-head listening or measured comparison was established. Your television’s ARC/eARC connection and the formats your source device sends should decide the first compatibility check.
WiiM Bar vs. Sonos Beam: what is actually different?
Both products are compact soundbars with Dolby Atmos support, but they take different approaches. WiiM describes Bar as a 3.0.2 system: three main channels, two height channels and an eight-driver acoustic system with four passive radiators. The two full-range height drivers fire upward. WiiM rates the system at 135 W and says compatible WiiM surrounds and a subwoofer can expand it to 5.1.2.

Sonos Beam (Gen 2) is a smaller, ecosystem-focused bar. Sonos documents Atmos playback, app and TV-remote control, AirPlay 2, Trueplay room tuning (with a supported iOS device), Speech Enhancement and Night Sound. The cited Beam fact sheet does not establish the same specific 5.1.2 expansion claim made for WiiM, so do not assume that the two expansion systems are interchangeable or equivalent.
Those are capability and workflow differences, not proof that one produces superior sound in every room. Room size, ceiling height, seating position, source quality and calibration can change the result.

Does the WiiM Bar support Dolby Atmos?
Yes. WiiM describes Bar as supporting Dolby Atmos and DTS:X and specifies two upward-firing height drivers in its 3.0.2 design. Its published format list includes Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, AC3, DTS and DTS:X. These are manufacturer specifications; they do not guarantee a particular height effect in your room.
The Bar’s HDMI eARC input is the most capable connection. WiiM’s support documentation says eARC accepts PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos, DTS, DTS-HD and DTS:X, up to 24-bit/192 kHz. Optical accepts PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS, also up to 24-bit/192 kHz, but not DTS-HD or DTS:X. WiiM also notes that television-remote volume control is unavailable over optical.
For Atmos from a TV, connect the TV’s HDMI eARC/ARC output to the Bar’s HDMI eARC port, enable eARC or ARC in the television menu, and set the TV’s digital-audio output to pass through or bitstream when that option is available. A source device must also be outputting an Atmos-compatible stream; an Atmos label in an app does not mean every device or plan sends the same format.

Does Sonos Beam (Gen 2) need eARC for Atmos?
It needs an HDMI ARC or eARC connection for Atmos playback, according to Sonos. eARC is not mandatory for every Atmos signal: Sonos lists Dolby Atmos delivered as Dolby Digital Plus among Beam’s supported formats, while Atmos/TrueHD and several multichannel formats require eARC’s greater bandwidth. The exact result depends on what the television and source negotiate.
Sonos lists support for stereo PCM, Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Atmos (Dolby Digital Plus). It also documents Atmos/TrueHD and multichannel formats marked as requiring eARC. Devices such as Apple TV can send Atmos and Dolby Multichannel PCM using Dolby MAT, but the television still has to pass that signal through a suitable ARC/eARC path.

- Fire TV Soundbar Plus – Elevate your audio with an all-in-one 3.1 soundbar that’s easy to set up. Featuring built-in bass, crisp dialogue, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X.
- Powerful sound with style – Take your entertainment to the next level with incredible sound, clarity, and depth packed into an all-in-one design.
- Crystal clear dialogue – A dedicated center dialogue channel sharpens conversations so you can catch every moment of your favorite shows.
- Sound in another dimension – Dolby Atmos features 3D sound that moves around you and clear dialogue. DTS:X delivers multi-dimensional audio for lifelike sound.
- Easy setup – Connect the included HDMI cable to your TV's HDMI eARC/ARC port and instantly enjoy audio that’s always in sync.
Use the included HDMI cable from the Beam to the TV port labeled ARC or eARC. If the television has only an optical output, Sonos includes an Optical Audio Adapter. Optical can provide a workaround for compatible non-Atmos formats, but it does not satisfy Sonos’s ARC/eARC requirement for Atmos.
Will either soundbar work with your TV?
Usually, but “works” can mean basic audio, Atmos audio or full-format passthrough. Check these four items before buying:
- TV output: identify whether the set has HDMI ARC, HDMI eARC or optical only.
- Source location: a streaming app built into the TV follows the TV’s output limits; a player connected to an HDMI input may depend on the TV’s passthrough capability.
- Audio settings: look for Bitstream, Passthrough, eARC, Dolby Digital Plus or similar options. Names vary by manufacturer.
- Content format: the service, title, subscription tier and playback device determine whether the stream is stereo, Dolby Digital Plus, Atmos or another format.
A TV with optical only can feed WiiM Bar directly through its optical input. It can feed Beam through the included adapter, but Atmos is not available through that optical route. If your television has ARC/eARC, HDMI is the practical choice for either product.
WiiM Bar: hardware, connections and expansion
What you get in the bar
WiiM lists an eight-driver system, four passive radiators, two top-firing full-range height drivers and 135 W of system power. The 2.1-inch touchscreen gives the Bar a visible status and control surface instead of relying entirely on a phone or TV overlay. The published body size is 1,060 × 105 × 74 mm, with a stated weight of about 5 kg in WiiM’s launch material.
Ports and wireless radios
The connection list includes HDMI eARC, optical, line-in, USB and Ethernet. Wireless specifications include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. HDMI eARC is the route to the widest documented television format support; optical is useful for older sets but has the format and remote-volume limitations described above.

Music and multiroom possibilities
WiiM lists Google Cast Audio, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Amazon Music Cast, DLNA/UPnP, Qplay, LMS and Roon. Availability of individual services and functions can vary by country, account type and software version. These integrations make Bar attractive if your music library already uses several casting or network-audio standards.
Adding speakers
WiiM says Bar can grow to a 5.1.2 system with compatible WiiM surround speakers and a subwoofer. “Compatible” matters: the statement does not mean arbitrary Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or third-party speakers can be added. Confirm the supported models and pairing procedure at the time of purchase.
Availability and price caution
WiiM’s official pages use mixed availability language. Product material says “Coming Soon” and “AVAILABLE Q3 2026,” while a shop listing says “WiiM Bar is here.” The shop page was crawled recently, but neither wording proves stock in your region on the day you order. The product page lists $479; treat that as an advertised U.S. figure, not a guaranteed checkout price.
Sonos Beam (Gen 2): hardware, control and room features
Compact dimensions
Beam (Gen 2) measures 25.63 × 3.94 × 2.72 inches (651 × 100 × 69 mm) and weighs 6.2 lb (2.8 kg). Its shorter length and lower weight can make it easier to fit beneath a smaller television or on a narrow cabinet. Leave the upward and front-facing acoustic area unobstructed, and follow the television manufacturer’s clearance guidance.
Control and tuning
The Sonos app provides setup and service control, while supported TV remotes can control volume. AirPlay 2 adds playback from compatible Apple devices. Trueplay measures the room using a supported iOS device; Speech Enhancement is intended to emphasize voices, and Night Sound reduces the prominence of loud effects for late listening. These are processing features, not independent evidence that Beam will sound clearer than WiiM in every room.

- 5.1.2ch Surround Sound System: A 5.1.2-channel system featuring up-firing speakers, surround sound, and a powerful subwoofer creates lifelike, multidimensional audio. Feel the Sky Around You—raindrops falling from above, helicopters circling overhead, thunder rumbling in all directions. Sound isn’t just around you, it engulfs you, as if the ceiling disappeared. This is Dolby Atmos: not just heard, but felt.
- Up-Firing Drivers with Neodymium Core: The up-firing channels use neodymium internal magnets and 18-core large voice coils to enhance height precision and vertical throw. This aerospace-grade configuration ensures better high-frequency dynamics, delivering focused and elevated sound images that unlock the true potential of Dolby Atmos.
- 360° SurroundX Audio: SurroundX technology combines two rear surround speakers and dual up-firing Atmos drivers to build a true 360° sound field. Note: Not compatible with DTS.
- Lossless Audio Transmission: Unlock full Dolby Atmos performance with HDMI eARC, supporting up to 37Mbps bandwidth for lossless 5.1.2-channel audio. Compared to regular ARC, eARC delivers richer detail and better surround effects with no compression. With CEC, your TV and soundbar work as one—power, volume, and input sync automatically for effortless control.
- Advanced App Control: Customize every detail of your audio experience with the Ultimea App. Fine-tune your surround sound with 13-step level adjustment (-6 to +6), optimize with a 10-band graphic EQ, and choose from 121 preset sound settings. Enjoy seamless OTA updates that unlock new features and keep your system performing at its peak.
Network and expansion expectations
The fact sheet lists Wi-Fi and Ethernet and places Beam within the wider Sonos ecosystem. It does not, in the cited material, specify the same exact 5.1.2 expansion arrangement WiiM advertises. If adding rear speakers or a subwoofer is central to your plan, verify current Sonos-compatible products and the required setup before purchase.
Price context
The fact sheet’s $449 figure appears in its launch-pricing section. It is historical and should not be used as today’s comparison price. Check the current price, regional taxes, delivery and stock at checkout.
Atmos setup: exact steps for each bar
WiiM Bar with an ARC/eARC television
- Place the Bar centrally below the screen, with its top-firing drivers clear of shelves or a recessed cabinet.
- Connect the included HDMI cable, or a suitable replacement, from the TV port labeled ARC/eARC to Bar’s HDMI eARC input.
- In the TV’s sound menu, enable ARC/eARC and choose Passthrough, Bitstream or the equivalent setting rather than forced stereo.
- Set the streaming player or disc device to output its original or bitstream audio when that option exists.
- Play a title whose device and service actually provide Dolby Atmos, then confirm the Bar or app reports the incoming format.
WiiM Bar with an optical-only television
- Connect the TV’s optical output to Bar’s optical input.
- Select PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus or DTS according to what the TV offers.
- Use the Bar or its app for volume, because WiiM documents no TV-remote volume control over optical.
- Do not expect DTS-HD, DTS:X or Atmos through this optical path.
Beam (Gen 2) with ARC/eARC
- Connect Beam to the TV’s HDMI ARC/eARC port with the included HDMI cable.
- Run Sonos setup in the app and allow TV-remote control when prompted.
- Enable ARC/eARC and passthrough or bitstream in the TV settings; avoid a setting that converts everything to stereo.
- For an external player, check its audio-output mode and the TV’s ability to pass the resulting format.
- Play known Atmos content and inspect the Sonos app or playback information to verify the signal rather than relying on the title’s marketing badge.
Beam with optical-only output
- Attach the included Sonos Optical Audio Adapter to the Beam’s HDMI connection.
- Connect the adapter to the television’s optical output.
- Choose a format the optical link supports, such as stereo or Dolby Digital.
- Use HDMI ARC/eARC instead if Atmos is a requirement.
Which one is better for music?
There is no universal winner; the better fit is the platform you already use. WiiM publishes the longer list of network and casting protocols, including Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Google Cast Audio, DLNA/UPnP, LMS and Roon. That breadth is useful for households combining several services, local libraries or network-audio systems.
Beam emphasizes the Sonos app, Sonos service integration and AirPlay 2. Choose it when family members already use Sonos rooms or AirPlay and want one control system. Check regional service availability before assuming a named integration works in your account or country.

Both manufacturers provide dedicated processing. WiiM lists Clear Voice, AI Dialog Enhancement and Night Mode. Sonos lists Speech Enhancement and Night Sound. These labels describe available modes, not laboratory dialogue scores. If speech intelligibility is your priority, confirm that the mode can be toggled easily from the relevant app or remote and test it with the programs you watch most.
Best Value
- All-new acoustic architecture with Sound Motion technology fills every inch of the room and precisely place sounds all around you
- Unparalleled 9.1.4 spatial audio experience with Dolby Atmos
- Ultra-clear dialogue plus Speech Enhancement, powered by AI, detects the human voice to clarify every word
- Elegant design looks great in your home and won’t distract from your entertainment
- Control with your TV remote, the Sonos app, the touch controls, Sonos Voice Control, and Amazon Alexa
How to choose: a practical decision framework
Choose WiiM Bar when these are your priorities
- You specifically want a manufacturer-stated 3.0.2 layout with upward-firing height drivers.
- You want Dolby Atmos plus DTS:X and the broader format list available through HDMI eARC.
- A 2.1-inch onboard display is more convenient than phone-only control.
- You use several casting, network-audio or music services listed by WiiM.
- You may add compatible WiiM surrounds and a subwoofer toward a 5.1.2 configuration.
- Your cabinet can accommodate the Bar’s approximately 1,060 mm width and 5 kg weight.
Choose Sonos Beam (Gen 2) when these are your priorities
- You already use Sonos products and want unified app and room control.
- AirPlay 2 is central to how your household plays music.
- You value compact, documented 651 mm width and 2.8 kg weight.
- Trueplay, Speech Enhancement and Night Sound match your listening needs.
- Your TV has ARC/eARC and you want Sonos’s documented Atmos workflow.
Pause before buying either one when
- Your TV has optical only but Atmos is non-negotiable.
- The soundbar must fit inside a closed shelf that blocks upward-firing or front drivers.
- You need a specific music service that is not confirmed for your region.
- You expect to use arbitrary third-party wireless speakers for surround channels.
Troubleshooting missing Atmos or unexpected sound
The app shows stereo instead of Atmos
- Confirm the title, service tier and playback device provide Atmos.
- Use HDMI ARC/eARC rather than optical.
- Enable TV passthrough/bitstream and eARC where offered.
- Check that the source device is not forced to PCM stereo; if it uses PCM, verify whether the TV and bar support the required multichannel path.
- Power-cycle the TV, source and soundbar after changing HDMI audio settings.
The TV remote does not change WiiM volume
That behavior is expected over WiiM’s optical input. Move to HDMI ARC/eARC for HDMI-CEC volume control when the television supports it, or use the Bar’s control method.
Dialogue still sounds recessed
Enable WiiM’s Clear Voice or AI Dialog Enhancement, or Sonos Speech Enhancement, and compare with the mode off. Also check that the center of the bar is not blocked by the TV stand and that the TV is not mixing an incompatible output format.
Height effects are weak
Upward-firing drivers need a clear path to the ceiling. Avoid placing either bar inside a tight shelf, under a deep overhang or far to one side. Ceiling height, surface absorption and seating position all affect reflected Atmos cues; a channel count alone cannot predict the result.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat is included, and do you need extra cables?
Both products’ documentation indicates that an HDMI cable is included, so an additional cable is not a default requirement. Buy a replacement or a longer cable only if the supplied one is missing or too short. Sonos includes its Optical Audio Adapter for optical-only televisions. WiiM has a built-in optical input, subject to the optical format and remote-volume limitations above.
Bottom line
WiiM Bar is the more specification-rich choice for buyers drawn to top-firing Atmos channels, DTS:X, a visible display, broad casting support and a stated route to compatible 5.1.2 expansion. Sonos Beam (Gen 2) is the more natural choice for Sonos households that want compact dimensions, AirPlay 2, Trueplay, Speech Enhancement and Night Sound. Verify your TV’s ARC/eARC path and current local pricing first. Specifications establish supported features; they do not establish which bar sounds better in your room.
