Wi-Fi Calling lets a compatible phone make and receive calls using your mobile number over a Wi-Fi connection. Airtel describes it as a carrier service that does not require a separate calling app. The feature’s presence in a phone category, however, does not prove support for every carrier, region, firmware version, or imported variant.

Before choosing a phone, weigh its price and memory configuration alongside the features you care about—such as display, camera, battery, performance, and software support. Then check carrier compatibility for the precise model or variant. A general category page is not a carrier certification.
How to check whether a phone supports Airtel or Jio Wi-Fi Calling
Airtel
Airtel lists a Wi-Fi Calling-capable handset and an Airtel 4G SIM as prerequisites. Its service page says Wi-Fi Calling is available nationally across circles except Jammu and Kashmir, over broadband providers generally. Airtel’s Wi-Fi Calling page provides its service guidance.

Airtel’s stated activation sequence is:
- Update the phone’s software.
- Enable VoLTE in the phone’s settings.
- Enable Wi-Fi Calling in the phone’s settings.
Menu names and locations can differ by handset and software version. If the option is missing, first check for software updates and confirm that Airtel supports the exact handset variant.

Jio

Airtel calling, roaming, and Wi-Fi requirements
Airtel says Wi-Fi calls are treated like regular calls under the customer’s plan, so charges depend on that plan; the service should not be assumed to be universally free. Airtel recommends keeping VoLTE switched on with Wi-Fi Calling for smoother handover if the Wi-Fi connection drops. It calls for a capable smartphone, updated software, and a high-speed Wi-Fi connection. Its Wi-Fi Calling FAQs say the service is not supported in airplane mode and is unavailable in international roaming. Airtel allows national roaming except in Jammu and Kashmir.

What to verify before buying
- Confirm Wi-Fi Calling support for your carrier and the phone’s exact model or variant, not just the product family.
- Check the current price for the intended storage and RAM configuration, plus seller and stock.
- Confirm the carrier prerequisites: Airtel specifies an Airtel 4G SIM; Jio specifies an active Jio tariff plan.
- Make sure the phone has current software and that you can access the Wi-Fi Calling setting.
