Then verify the refill, placement, and hub connections. Thermacell says basic repellency works without Wi-Fi, so an app connection problem alone does not mean the repellent has stopped.
What the LIV 2.0 lights mean
Check each repeller’s indicator before changing settings. Thermacell’s LIV Product Support guide describes these states:

| Chasing amber | The repeller is warming up; the protection zone is not ready. | Allow it time to warm. |
| Solid blue | The unit is at temperature and the protection zone is ready. | If mosquitoes remain a problem, check the refill and placement. |
| Flashing red | A refill is missing. | Insert a compatible refill. |
| Periodic flashing red | The cartridge is getting low. | Prepare a replacement. |
| Solid red | The cartridge is empty. | Replace it and reset refill life. |
| Flashing blue/yellow | On LIV 2.0, the repeller is tilted or has been knocked over. | Set it upright. |
| Flashing orange alongside the operating color | The cap is obstructed. | Clear the obstruction and move the cap to the closed position. |
| Flashing red/white | A temperature issue. | Use Thermacell’s support path. |
| Solid green | A communication error. | Use Thermacell’s support path. |
Thermacell says the LIV 2.0 cap is designed to reopen after about a minute. Do not force it if it is obstructed.

LIV is compatible only with Thermacell LIV On-Demand Repellent Refills, according to the manufacturer’s Device & Refills information. When a cartridge is empty, replace it and set refill life to the duration of the refill you installed. A mismatch can make the system’s refill status inaccurate.

Reset refill life in the LIV+ 2 app
- Select your system in the LIV+ 2 app and power it on.
- Choose Reset, select the duration that matches the installed refill, and confirm.
Reset from the hub when offline
- Power on the system.
- Hold the hub’s power button for five seconds, until the LED turns purple.
- Release the button after it flashes, then cycle to the refill-cap color that matches the refill duration.
- Hold the button for three seconds to lock in the selection.

Allow warm-up and check placement
Thermacell says repellers can take five minutes to warm up before releasing repellent at optimal levels and advises allowing a few more minutes for full area protection. If a unit has just been switched on, give it that time before judging its performance.

Thermacell’s LIV planning guidance recommends placing repellers no more than 20 feet apart and within 10 feet of seating or gathering areas. Mount each unit upright, 2–4 inches above ground, with at least 18 inches of clearance from plants, walls, and other obstructions. These are manufacturer recommendations, not independently established performance guarantees.
Thermacell’s general product FAQ says its repellent works well outdoors where there is minimal air movement. That is general guidance, not a specific LIV 2.0 wind threshold; the FAQ does not establish that every breezy condition causes poor performance. See Thermacell’s Device & Refills FAQ.

Check hub power, cables, and physical condition
Unplug the hub before connecting or disconnecting repellers. If the hub flashes three times and shuts off, Thermacell says to check the cables and repellers. The terminator supplied with the hub belongs on the last repeller in the longest chain.
Clean dirt or weathering from repellers with a damp cloth or alcohol wipe. If the hub error persists after checking connections, contact Thermacell rather than attempting repairs. The manufacturer also directs owners to support for a rapidly flashing hub, a hub with no power-button LED, a solid-green communication error, or a flashing red/white temperature issue. Separate app or Wi-Fi trouble from repellency
The LIV+ 2 app requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, but Thermacell says basic mosquito repellency and some system functions, including refill reset, remain available without Wi-Fi. An app that cannot connect is therefore not, by itself, evidence that the repellent has stopped operating.
If setup or onboarding is failing, check that the phone and hub are using the intended network and correct password, verify signal strength, and follow the manufacturer’s reset and onboarding instructions on its LIV support page.

When to contact Thermacell
Contact Thermacell support for the error states it assigns to support, or if a hub that flashes three times and shuts off continues to do so after you have checked cables and repellers.
