If your team keeps losing in The King of Fighters AFK, first check the battle mode and its special rules—not just your total Combat Power. Why am I losing even though my team has higher Combat Power?
Combat Power is only one clue. The official guidance describes different party requirements and bonuses across content, so a stronger-looking team can still be a poor fit for the stage or mode. Check the battle screen for the mode, opponent or stage, and any special condition before changing fighters.

Netmarble describes the game as “5 vs. 5 brawls” and tells players to “Create your own team and take on the enemy strategically!” Its launch overview also said party sizes could range from 5 to 15 fighters depending on content. Treat those party-size details as launch-era guidance, not a guarantee about every current mode; follow the requirements shown in your game.

- Identify the mode and stage. Read the battle screen and note any displayed buff or special rule.
- Check the fighters you are fielding. Netmarble’s challenge tips specifically emphasize using well-levelled fighters. A well-developed reserve does not help if the fighters in the active party are under-levelled.
- Check whether synergy applies. Synergy is a composition factor in some content, but the rules differ by mode.
- Adapt to the content. Party requirements and bonuses vary, so do not assume a formation that worked elsewhere will work here.
- Change one thing, then retry. Adjust a level or lineup choice, replay the fight, and see whether the result changes. This is a practical way to isolate what is holding the team back, not a special in-game mechanic.
Does synergy matter for this challenge?
It depends on the mode. Netmarble’s launch overview describes fighters as having distinct synergies and uses Mai Shiranui’s Rage synergy as an example. But its official Challenge Contents tips say Arcade Challenge has no Weak Attributes or Synergy bonuses; that mode instead applies a special Stage Buff. In Arcade Challenge, pay attention to that buff rather than building around a synergy bonus the mode does not provide.

For other content, check the displayed rules before deciding whether synergy should influence your party. Do not assume that a bonus described for one mode applies everywhere.
How do I build a stronger team for a stuck stage?
There is no evidence-backed universal lineup for every stage. The useful question is which candidate lineup better fits the battle in front of you. Compare options on these points:

- Rule fit: Does the lineup satisfy the mode’s party requirements and account for its displayed conditions?
- Development: Are the fighters you will field well-levelled?
- Synergy: Does this mode actually reward the synergy you are trying to use?
- Content fit: Is the formation suited to this particular stage or activity, rather than copied from a different mode?
Netmarble’s materials describe team-building principles and mode-specific examples, not a single optimal lineup. Your roster and the stage’s current rules matter, so advice naming a fixed “best team” cannot reliably diagnose a loss without those details.

Why a formation that worked elsewhere may fail
The King of Fighters AFK has multiple PvE and PvP modes, and the number of fighters and applicable bonuses can vary by content. A lineup that succeeds in one activity may not meet another activity’s requirements or benefit from the same bonuses. Third-party guidance also recommends adapting formations and considering role balance or position changes, but those are suggestions rather than universal rules; verify specific mechanics against the current in-game screen.

Do not choose solely by rarity, total Combat Power, or a fixed role template. The available official guidance does not establish any one of those as a reliable predictor of victory across modes. Start with the mode rules, then assess levels and whether the proposed synergy is relevant.
