Your Summoners Greed team usually loses for a specific, fixable reason: damage is too low, enemies are leaking through one lane, crowd control is mistimed, or the formation does not cover the stage’s current threats. Find the exact wave where the run breaks, identify that failure, then make one targeted change and replay the same stage. A balanced-looking roster is less useful than a team whose damage, support, control and coverage match the enemies in front of it.
Start with the exact failure, not the monster list
Do not replace several monsters at once or copy a lineup solely because it contains rare units. First record the stage, the wave, the lane and the enemy that causes the loss. The distinction matters:

- Enemies survive too long: your primary damage plan, damage amplification or upgrade concentration is insufficient.
- One or more enemies reach the exit: you need better slowing, stunning, lane coverage or placement rather than only more raw damage.
- A particular wave suddenly overwhelms you: an enemy mechanic, elemental interaction, immunity or composition may be invalidating an otherwise effective setup.
- The run fails after a balance or map update: advice written for an earlier version may no longer describe the current enemy behavior.
Watch one failed attempt without changing anything. Note when the first enemy survives a damage cycle, when a control effect expires, and whether the leak comes from one lane or several. That observation gives you a testable hypothesis instead of a vague feeling that the team is “weak.”

Primary damage
Your primary damage dealer is the unit around which the upgrade budget is organized. Concentrating resources on one dependable carry generally produces a stronger result than leveling every monster equally, because a carry reaches useful breakpoints sooner. The carry should be judged by whether it damages the enemies on the failed wave, not by its name or rarity alone.
Support and damage amplification
Support pieces can increase the effective output of your carry or improve the timing of the whole formation. A support unit is valuable when its effect directly changes the failure you observed: amplification for enemies that survive too long, or another supportive effect that lets your carry finish targets before the next wave arrives. Spending scarce resources on a support that does not affect the problem delays the upgrade your team actually needs.
Crowd control
Slowing and stunning buy time for damage to land. Control is especially important when enemies are reaching the exit with health remaining, when a fast target outruns your damage cycle, or when several enemies arrive together. A stun that is placed where enemies bunch up can prevent a leak; the same stun placed on an empty stretch of path may contribute almost nothing.

Backup coverage
Backup coverage protects a lane or wave that your main plan cannot reliably handle. It can be a second damage source, an additional control effect or a unit positioned to catch enemies that leave the primary attack area. Coverage is insurance, not an excuse to divide upgrades evenly. Build it only after the carry and the support that enables it are performing their essential jobs.
Use a damage plan instead of an evenly leveled roster
A stage-based guide reviewed August 1, 2026 recommends concentrating resources around a primary carry and selecting supports that amplify that plan. This approach is more efficient than distributing coins across every monster, particularly on an account with limited upgrade currency.

- Choose the unit you can realistically develop. Consider the monsters you own, their current levels and stars, and the cost of the next meaningful upgrade. A theoretically stronger unit is not helpful if you cannot fund it.
- Define the target it must defeat. Look at the first enemy that survives or escapes on the failed wave. Your carry’s job is to shorten that enemy’s time on the path or remove it before the next threat arrives.
- Fund the carry before broadening the roster. Upgrade the damage dealer until the failed wave changes, then invest in the support or control effect that addresses the remaining problem.
- Keep the test controlled. Replay the same stage with the same formation and make one major change at a time. Otherwise you cannot tell which adjustment produced the improvement.
Community beginner advice often names Mighty and Speedy as priorities alongside a main damage dealer. Those names are examples from community recommendations, not a universal tier list or a guarantee that they are optimal for your account. If you own them and they address your observed failure, they may be sensible investments; if another owned unit fills the role more effectively or is cheaper to upgrade, use that instead.
Match the adjustment to the way you lose
| Observed failure | First adjustment to test | Why it can work | What to check on the replay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Most enemies survive until the end of the path | Concentrate upgrades on the primary damage dealer; add or improve damage amplification | More focused output can remove targets before they consume another attack cycle | Whether the carry defeats the same target earlier and reduces the number of enemies reaching the final lane |
| One fast enemy leaks while other enemies die | Add slowing or stunning in the lane and position it where targets overlap | Control extends the time available for the carry to attack the dangerous target | Whether the control effect catches the leaker and whether the carry finishes it before the effect ends |
| Several enemies escape from one lane | Add backup coverage or move an existing damage/control unit to cover that lane | The formation is failing spatially, so another angle or a better placement can close the gap | Whether the previously weak lane now receives attacks during the full enemy approach |
| A specific wave ignores your normal damage pattern | Inspect elemental interaction, immunity and enemy composition before changing the whole team | A map mechanic can make an otherwise strong damage plan ineffective on that wave | Whether the suspected immunity or composition is actually present in the current version |
These are troubleshooting priorities, not tested head-to-head results. The evidence supports role-based decisions, but it does not establish a single numerical winner among all monsters or formations.
Placement and timing: fix leaks before adding power
When enemies leak, ask where the formation loses control. If enemies pass through an unprotected lane, move a unit that already has the appropriate range or effect before spending on a new monster. If enemies bunch up at a turn or chokepoint, that location is usually a more valuable control position than the start of the path, because one slow or stun can affect more targets.
Do not judge a control unit by whether it deals high damage. Its contribution is the time it creates for the carry. A stun that lands after the enemy has already entered the final stretch is a late emergency; the same stun placed before the carry’s attack cycle can prevent the leak entirely. Watch at least one complete wave after moving it, because the best-looking placement on the first few enemies may fail when the wave density changes.
Backup coverage should address the exact lane that fails. Adding a second damage source to a lane that already clears wastes resources if another lane remains open. Conversely, moving every unit toward one lane can create a new leak elsewhere. Treat the formation as a map of attack and control coverage, not as a list of individual power ratings.

Elemental damage and changing enemy behavior
Elemental damage is part of the game’s strategic design, and the official App Store update text reports changes to map difficulty, elemental immunity and enemy composition. That means a remembered answer to “how do I beat this map?” can age even when the team once worked.
Before blaming upgrades, verify what the current wave is doing:
- Check whether the enemy is displaying an immunity or resistance that affects your chosen damage type.
- Compare the current enemy mix with older screenshots or guides; composition changes can alter which lane, element or control effect matters.
- Confirm that the stage’s current difficulty has not been adjusted in an update.
- Use the behavior you see in your present game client as the deciding evidence when it conflicts with an older recommendation.
If an elemental interaction is the real bottleneck, replacing a support with a higher-rarity unit of the same ineffective type will not solve it. Change the damage source or add coverage that can affect the wave, then retest on that exact stage.
Two practical lineup patterns—and when to choose each
There is no evidence-backed lineup that wins every stage or account. The following patterns translate the available community advice into decisions based on the failure you are seeing.
Carry plus amplification and speed support
A beginner-oriented community recommendation prioritizes a main damage dealer with Mighty and Speedy. The logic is a focused damage plan with support around it: the carry receives the bulk of upgrades, while the supports are chosen because their effects can improve the carry’s ability to clear waves. This pattern is most appropriate when enemies are dying eventually but too slowly, provided the units’ current effects fit the stage.

It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.
Its trade-off is reduced redundancy. If a wave contains a fast target or a lane outside the carry’s effective coverage, the team may still leak. In that case, test a control or backup-coverage change rather than continuing to raise every member equally.
Carry plus stun control
Another community setup guide presents a carry-and-stun layout. This pattern targets leaks: the damage dealer handles the main health pool while the stun creates time for attacks to land. Choose it when the failure is caused by enemies reaching the exit, not simply by low total damage.
The trade-off is that control does not replace insufficient damage forever. If the stunned target survives repeated control cycles, shift upgrades toward the carry or add amplification. A stun layout also depends on placement; if the effect misses the dangerous lane or expires before the carry attacks, its apparent strength will not show in the result.

- Spend on the smallest meaningful test. Upgrade the carry or relevant support, reposition one unit, or replace one role. Avoid changing the entire formation.
- Replay the same stage. Compare the first failure point, not merely whether the run felt better.
- Keep the change if it fixes the cause. If the failed wave moves later or disappears, continue developing that plan.
- Farm when the account is underpowered. Community beginner guidance recommends repeating a stage to earn resources and upgrading when stuck. Farming is preferable to repeatedly swapping units without improving the bottleneck.
- Escalate only after the evidence changes. If damage is now sufficient but a lane still leaks, move to control or coverage. If control holds enemies but they survive, return to damage.

Leveling everyone equally
Equal investment feels safe, but it can leave the carry below the damage breakpoint needed for the next wave. A focused carry and relevant support usually give you a clearer path to improvement than a roster of moderately upgraded units.
Choosing by rarity alone
Rarity does not tell you whether a unit solves the present failure. A lower-rarity slow that catches the leaking enemy can be more useful than a high-rarity damage unit aimed at a lane that already clears.
Using old map-specific claims
Because updates have changed difficulty, elemental immunity and enemy composition, an old statement about what a map is immune to may be wrong for the current version. Recheck the wave in-game before rebuilding around outdated information.

Replacing three units, moving the entire formation and spending all your currency at once removes the ability to learn from the attempt. One targeted change produces a useful result even when it fails; a complete rebuild often does not.
A decision tree for “How do I beat this stage?”
- Do enemies die before the final stretch? If no, improve the carry or its amplification and check elemental compatibility.
- If they die, does one lane still leak? If yes, add or reposition control or backup coverage in that lane.
- Does the problem appear only on one enemy or wave? Inspect immunity, speed, special behavior and current enemy composition.
- Did one targeted change move the failure later? Keep developing that role before trying a different archetype.
- Did nothing change after a reasonable upgrade? Confirm that the upgraded unit can affect the enemy, then farm resources and reassess the stage’s current behavior.
What information is needed for a precise recommendation?
A precise lineup cannot be selected responsibly from the stage name alone. To diagnose an individual account, provide:
- the exact stage and wave where the run fails;
- the monsters you own, including their levels and stars;
- current charms or other equipment that changes performance;
- the formation and placement you are using;
- which enemies survive or escape first; and
- the upgrades you can currently afford.
Those details reveal whether the account needs a stronger carry, a support effect, a control placement, elemental coverage or simple resource farming. Without them, any named “best team” is only a conditional example.
Bottom line
Fix the failure you can observe: focus upgrades when enemies survive, add control or lane coverage when they leak, and investigate elemental immunity or composition when one wave behaves differently. Mighty, Speedy, a carry-and-stun arrangement and other community suggestions can be useful starting points, but none is a universal answer. Replay the same stage after one targeted change, use current in-game behavior over old map advice, and build around the monsters and resources your account actually has.
