If your robot vacuum leaves streaks, leaves dust behind, or misses some areas, first identify whether the problem happens during dry vacuuming, wet mopping, or both. A dirty mop pad or too much cleaning formula can cause streaking; poor dry pickup calls for checks of the bin, bag, brushes, and filter; missed patches may be blocked or linked to a dirty sensor. Work through the relevant checks below using your robot’s own care instructions.
Start by separating a mopping problem from a vacuuming problem
Look at when the mess appears. Streaking or a floor dirtier after mopping points toward the mop pads, water, or cleaning solution. Dust left behind after a dry run points toward pickup components such as the side brush, dust compartment or bag, and filter. If the robot misses a particular area or takes an unusual route, check access and navigation sensors.

Wash or replace a dirty mop pad
BISSELL says that on its SpinWave R5, excessively dirty mop pads can cause streaking. It recommends using clean pads for each cleaning and following its washing instructions. Xiaomi’s X20+ guidance also identifies dirty pads, or pads that are not cleaned often enough, as a possible reason for poor mopping results. Wash the installed pads as directed for your exact model. If they are worn or damaged, check the manufacturer’s compatibility guidance before buying replacements.

Use only the amount and type of liquid approved for your model
Too much BISSELL formula can contribute to streaking on the SpinWave R5, according to BISSELL’s troubleshooting guidance. That instruction is specific to that model: do not assume another robot permits the same formula or quantity. Check your robot’s manual for approved liquids and fill directions.
Check the cleaning water
Xiaomi’s X20+ support guidance says contaminated water can leave dirt on the floor. If the water in the robot’s system or tank is visibly dirty, follow the model’s instructions for emptying and refilling it. Avoid reusing dirty water during a mop run.

Fix a robot vacuum that leaves dust behind
Empty the dust compartment or replace a full bag
A full dust compartment or disposable bag can interfere with collection. Xiaomi’s H50 Pro troubleshooting recommends emptying a full compartment or replacing a full bag. Your robot may use one system or the other, so follow its own instructions for access and disposal.
Clear the side brush and remove tangled debris
Hair or other foreign objects on a side brush can impede its movement and leave debris behind. Xiaomi advises cleaning the side brush and removing foreign objects. Inspect the brush and clean it according to the model’s manual; replace it only if it is damaged or remains ineffective after cleaning.

Inspect the filter
A blocked filter is another check in Xiaomi’s H50 Pro guidance. Remove and clean or replace the filter only as your manufacturer directs. A filter that is washable on one model may not be washable on another.
When the floor is heavily dusty, vacuum before mopping
For a heavily dusty floor, Xiaomi recommends vacuuming before mopping. Its H50 Pro guidance also recommends clearing debris from the side brush before the mop run. This helps avoid asking the mop pass to deal with loose dust that dry pickup should collect first. The exact sequence and available modes vary by robot, so use the equivalent settings in your model’s app or controls.

Clear obstacles and check the route
Move objects that block access to the area the robot skipped, then run another cleanup. A robot cannot clean a patch it cannot reach, and an obstruction can alter its route.

Roborock says dirt on the wall sensor on the right side of its robot can cause many missed areas and abnormal paths. Its advice is to wipe that sensor with a damp cloth and run another cleanup. Sensor position and cleaning method vary by model; use the manual to identify and safely clean the relevant sensor rather than assuming every robot has the same right-side sensor.

Check the caster and sensor openings during maintenance
iRobot’s maintenance guidance recommends cleaning sensor openings and checking the front caster for hair and debris. It warns that a clogged caster can result in floor damage. Consult the instructions for your exact model before removing or cleaning the caster; do not force parts that the manual does not identify as removable.
If the problem persists
After the relevant cleaning and access checks, run another cleanup and note whether the same symptom remains. If it does, consult the troubleshooting guide or support service for your exact model.
