If your phone’s Wi-Fi list is blank—or one network is missing—first check that Wi-Fi is on, Airplane Mode is off and you are close enough to the router. Then see whether another device can find the same network. That comparison helps separate a phone-side problem from a network or router issue.
Start by identifying what is missing
Notice whether the phone shows no networks at all or whether it shows other networks but not the one you want. Also check whether another phone or computer can see that same network. These distinctions point to different causes:

- No networks appear: Check the phone’s wireless settings, then move closer to a known working Wi-Fi source.
- Only one network is missing: The network may be hidden, restricted or unavailable where you are.
- Other devices also cannot see it: Focus on the router or network configuration rather than assuming the phone is faulty.
If the network name appears in the list but the phone cannot connect, or connects without internet access, that is a different problem from a network not appearing. Google’s Pixel Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide treats connection and internet problems separately from finding a network.

Make sure Wi-Fi is enabled and Airplane Mode is off. Menu names and locations vary by phone model and Android version, but the controls are usually in Settings or the quick settings panel. Apple likewise recommends checking Wi-Fi and Airplane Mode when a device cannot find or join a network.

- Turn Wi-Fi off, wait a few seconds, and turn it on again.
- Check Airplane Mode and switch it off if enabled. If it is already off, toggling it on and then off can refresh the phone’s wireless connections.
- Wait briefly for the available-network list to update.
- If no networks appear, restart the phone and check again.
Google’s Android Wi-Fi help recommends toggling Wi-Fi and Airplane Mode and restarting the phone as basic checks.
Move closer and compare another device
Stand near the router and allow the network list time to refresh. A weak or absent signal can keep a network from appearing, especially when you are far away or separated from the router. Google advises moving closer when Wi-Fi signal is weak or unavailable.

Next, check whether another device can see the same network in the same location. If it can, the network is being broadcast or is otherwise visible to that device, so continue with the affected phone’s settings and compatibility. If no nearby device can see it, investigate the network itself or ask the person who manages it.
If just one network is missing
Check whether the network is hidden
A network owner may configure an SSID—the Wi-Fi network name—not to appear in the ordinary list. Apple notes that a network may not appear if settings block unauthorized devices or if the network does not meet Apple’s recommendations. A missing name therefore does not, by itself, prove that the phone’s Wi-Fi hardware has failed.

Add a hidden network only if you have its details
On Android, you can add a network manually when you are authorized to use it and have the exact network name and security information. Open the Wi-Fi settings, choose the option to add a network, enter the SSID and required security details, and enable the hidden-network option if shown. Labels differ across Android devices; Google’s Android instructions describe adding a network and selecting the hidden-network setting.
For a workplace, school, hotel or other managed network, ask its administrator to confirm the exact network name, access policy and device compatibility. Guessing the name or security type will not resolve a configuration or access restriction.

If no device can see the network
For a home network, check that the router is powered on and operating, then follow its manual to restart it. Confirm that you are within range and check the router maker’s guidance for firmware and compatibility. Apple’s Wi-Fi connection troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking router power, range, firmware and compatibility.

If the network belongs to someone else or is managed by an organization, contact its owner or administrator rather than changing equipment or settings you do not control. The checks above do not establish that a new router is needed; first determine whether the existing network is available and configured for your phone.

When to contact support
Contact the phone maker if Wi-Fi controls are unavailable or the phone still finds no networks after you have checked the settings, restarted it and tested near a working router. Contact the router maker or network administrator if multiple devices cannot see the network or its access settings are uncertain. Those symptoms help identify whom to ask, but they are not enough on their own to diagnose a hardware failure.
