The cause can be as simple as a smudge, missed focus, strong light or a camera setting; there is no single fix for every OPPO phone. Menu names and features vary by model and ColorOS version, so identify yours before following a specific path.
1. Check your OPPO model and ColorOS version
Open Settings > About Phone or Settings > About Device and note the model and ColorOS version. The exact labels and available camera controls differ between OPPO devices and software versions. OPPO’s camera settings guide also notes that settings screens may look different across phones.

2. Inspect the front-camera opening
Look for a finger, grime or an accessory edge covering the camera. If the lens area looks smudged, gently wipe the exterior with a clean microfiber cloth, then take another photo. No particular cleaning product is required. Some OPPO phones can display a dirty-lens warning, but that feature is not available on every model.

3. Take a simple baseline photo
- Open the built-in Camera app.
- Select Photo and switch to the front-facing camera.
- Face even, indirect light and take a fresh picture without changing several settings at once.
This gives you a useful comparison for the checks that follow. OPPO describes the basic selfie path in its selfie guidance.

4. Compare photos with beauty effects and filters reduced
If your camera offers beauty adjustments or filters, temporarily turn them down or off and take another photo. Compare it with the baseline: strong smoothing or a filter may make skin look less detailed or alter its tone, but these features are not necessarily the cause of a poor image.
Test HDR separately rather than treating it as a default culprit. OPPO describes HDR as a way to capture detail in bright and dark areas. On some models, effects such as beauty, filters and HDR may be available in Photo or Portrait mode; the choices and controls vary. See OPPO’s camera settings guide.

5. Check focus and hold the phone steady
When the camera interface supports touch-to-focus, tap the face or eye area you want sharp, then hold the phone steady as you capture the image. In OPPO’s Reno5 A guide, tapping an area to sharpen displays a yellow focus box; this is a model-specific example, not a control found on every OPPO phone. See the Reno5 A product guide.

Take a fresh picture in the built-in Camera app and compare it with a rear-camera photo in similar light. A rear-camera comparison can help establish whether the blur is specific to the front-facing shot, but it does not diagnose the cause.

6. Change harsh lighting or flash
A pale face or bright, featureless highlights can result from lighting as well as camera settings. Move out of direct, intense light or backlighting and test with flash off. OPPO cautions that intense flash can wash out close-up photos and selfies. On supported Reno phones, front-facing soft light is described as a way to soften shadows and even out facial lighting; availability varies by device. Use lighting that looks natural to you rather than assuming a brighter face light will improve every selfie. Read OPPO’s Reno soft-light explanation.

If a camera adjustment made the image worse, restore camera settings to their defaults if your phone offers that option. The setting name and location vary; OPPO’s camera settings guide describes restoring defaults.

If blur or haze remains across modes after these reversible checks, contact OPPO support for your region or arrange an assessment at a service center. Blur alone does not establish a particular hardware fault. OPPO provides regional support. A restart or software update may be reasonable general maintenance, but OPPO’s guidance on clearing camera data or cache, restarting and updating concerns a camera-switch problem—not a confirmed fix for blurry or washed-out photos.
