An NFL blackout usually means either the game is not included in your streaming package for your current market, or the service cannot verify your location. First check the game’s broadcaster and your subscription; if the game should be available, fix the service’s playback-area settings before paying for another plan.
Why an NFL livestream may be unavailable
The game is local to your market
NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube is primarily for out-of-market regular-season Sunday afternoon games. If a game is being shown on a local CBS or FOX station in your current broadcast area, it is not included in standalone Sunday Ticket there. YouTube TV’s main plan may carry local stations, depending on the channels available in your market. Check the official Sunday Ticket game listings and your local channel lineup for the specific matchup.

The game is national, postseason, preseason, or otherwise excluded
Standalone Sunday Ticket is not an all-games pass. It excludes locally televised and nationally broadcast games, preseason and postseason games, and some select or digital-exclusive games. Find the game’s listed broadcaster and use a service that carries that broadcast rather than assuming Sunday Ticket will unlock it. You have a different YouTube package than you think
Standalone Sunday Ticket and Sunday Ticket added to YouTube TV are different combinations. YouTube TV’s main plan carries local and national broadcasts available in your area; the Sunday Ticket add-on adds out-of-market Sunday afternoon games. YouTube has placed you in the wrong area
Game availability depends on your playback location. If YouTube thinks you are in a different area—or cannot verify where you are—a game that should be available may be missing or blocked. Location access can be disabled or inaccurate on a phone, browser, or TV. YouTube explains how playback location affects content for Primetime Channels.
Check which service carries the game
Use the game’s date, matchup, and your current market to identify its broadcast category before changing settings or subscribing to anything. Weekly listings can change, so check the current official listing rather than relying on a general team or package description.

Fix a YouTube location or playback-area error
- Confirm the signed-in account. Check that the account playing the game is the one with the relevant YouTube TV plan or Sunday Ticket purchase.
- Update YouTube TV’s current playback area. In the YouTube TV app or website, open your profile and go to Location settings, then update Current playback area. Allow location access if prompted. Follow the on-screen verification flow if the service asks for it. YouTube’s NFL viewing setup guidance covers missing expected games and playback-area checks.
- For Primetime Channels, complete the playback-area prompt. Allow the device or browser to share its location and follow the verification instructions. See YouTube’s location-settings guidance.
- If casting, verify with the same account on your mobile device and TV. Enable location sharing in the mobile browser, then follow the TV’s on-screen flow or visit youtube.com/locate. YouTube also recommends reopening the app and retrying; for some casting problems, clear the browser’s cache and cookies. See location and playback-area troubleshooting.
- If the error persists, contact the streaming provider. Give support the game, date, device, current location, account or package type, and exact error message. Those details help distinguish a package restriction from a location-detection problem.
Choose the fix that matches the problem
- The game is local or national: use a service carrying that broadcast in your market; changing location settings will not add an excluded game to standalone Sunday Ticket.
- The game is preseason, postseason, or otherwise excluded: check the game’s broadcaster and the service that carries it.
- The game is an eligible out-of-market Sunday afternoon matchup, but it is missing: verify the active package and correct playback-area settings.
