If your business listing is missing from Google, first check that you’re signed in to the Google Account that manages it, that the business qualifies for a profile, and that the profile is verified and unrestricted. If it appears when people search your business name but not for broader searches, it may be a ranking issue rather than a missing profile: local results depend on relevance, distance, and prominence.
First, work out what “not showing” means
Google Business Profile is the business listing that can appear in Google Search and Maps. A profile can be missing from your account, absent from public results, or visible for some searches but not others. Those situations call for different checks.

| What you see | What to check first |
|---|---|
| You can’t find or manage the profile while signed in | Account access, whether the profile needs to be added or claimed, and verification. |
| The profile is not visible to the public, even by business name | Eligibility, verification, recent edits, and any policy or account restriction. |
| The profile appears by name or in Maps, but not for a service or category search | Query relevance, the searcher’s distance from the business, and prominence. |
Google advises searching the business name and city, or “my business,” while signed in to the Google Account associated with the profile. Find your business on Google and verify your business.

1. You’re signed in to the wrong Google Account
A profile may exist without appearing in the account you’re currently using. Sign in to the Google Account that owns or manages the listing, then search the exact business name with its city or search “my business.” If you still can’t manage it, check whether it needs to be added or claimed and verified. Google’s missing-business guidance starts with locating the profile through the associated account.

2. The business may not qualify
Google generally requires a business to make in-person contact with customers during its stated business hours. Online-only businesses and lead-generation companies are among Google’s examples of ineligible businesses. Exceptions may apply to particular business types, so consult the full Business Profile eligibility and ownership guidelines rather than assuming the examples cover every case.
3. The profile is not verified
Google says an unverified profile is not eligible to display. Open the profile from the managing account and use the verification option Google offers. Google chooses available methods based on factors such as business type, public information, region, and business hours; options may include phone or text, email, video, or mail, but no particular method is guaranteed to be available. After you complete the steps, Google says its verification review may take up to five business days. See Verify your business on Google.

4. A recent edit has not appeared yet
Review the profile for accurate, complete, current business information, then allow time for changes to appear. Google says edits may take up to three days to show in results. It also says rankings for a new business can take up to a month to establish. These are Google process timeframes, not guarantees that the profile will appear for any particular search. See Find your business on Google.

A profile that violates Google’s guidelines may be disabled or suspended and hidden from other users until the issue is resolved. Check the Google Account that manages the listing for a notice. Review the relevant guidelines and address the underlying issue before appealing; Google recommends confirming the profile is verified first. For an eligible restriction, use the official Business Profile appeals tool and provide genuine supporting evidence if requested. Do not invent evidence or make unsupported edits.
If the profile exists but doesn’t rank for a search
Visibility is not the same as a guaranteed position. Google identifies relevance, distance, and prominence as the main factors in local results. Relevance is how well the profile matches the search; distance depends on where the searcher is; prominence reflects how well-known the business appears to be, with signals such as links and reviews among the factors Google mentions. A business may therefore appear for its name or near its address but not for a broad service query made elsewhere.
Keep the profile information complete and accurate, and make sure the business’s real services and details are represented correctly. Avoid assuming that adding keywords or repeatedly changing the listing will secure a ranking. Google does not disclose its full local-ranking algorithm, and it states: “There’s no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google.” Read Tips to improve your local ranking on Google.

Use Performance data to see where the profile appeared
Once the profile is verified, its Business Profile Performance report can show search queries and customer interactions. The query data reflects searches in which the profile appeared; it is not a control for selecting which searches trigger the listing. Google says query metrics update at the beginning of each month and can take up to five days after the month starts to appear. Interpret the report in context: query wording, date range, and searcher location all affect what the data can tell you. Details are in Understand your Business Profile performance and insights.
A practical troubleshooting sequence
- Search from the managing account: Sign in to the Google Account associated with the profile and search the exact business name plus city, or “my business.”
- Confirm eligibility: Check the eligibility guidelines for the business type.
- Verify the profile: Follow the method Google presents in the profile; allow for the review period after completing it.
- Check information and recent changes: Correct inaccurate details and allow Google’s stated processing time for edits.
- Check for restrictions: Look for notices in the managing account, resolve guideline issues, and appeal only through Google’s process if eligible.
- Separate visibility from ranking: If the profile appears by name but not for other queries, evaluate relevance, distance, and prominence rather than treating it as absent.
- Review Performance: After verification, use query and interaction data as a record of visibility, not as a way to set rankings.
What to expect from outside help
A local SEO consultant may be able to audit profile information and local presence, but no consultant can promise a position or sell a better Google ranking. Be wary of anyone claiming to pay Google for placement or guaranteeing a specific local result; Google explicitly says ranking cannot be requested or purchased.
