Why Your Google Business Profile Doesn’t Appear in Performance Max—and How to Fix It

A Google Business Profile listing does not automatically become a location in every Performance Max campaign. Google Ads must be connected to the correct Business Profile manager account or business group, the locations must finish syncing, and the campaign must be set to promote those locations through all locations or a selected Location Group. A location can also be correctly connected yet fail to appear in a particular auction because targeting, relevance, campaign status or competition determine whether an ad serves.

What “appear in Performance Max” actually means

People use this symptom to describe several different problems. Separating them prevents you from changing the wrong setting.

The profile is missing from Google Ads

This is a connection, permission or synchronization problem. Google Ads cannot use a Business Profile location until the relevant location source is linked and the locations have been imported.

The profile is connected but not selected for the campaign

Performance Max can have access to many locations while a particular campaign promotes only a subset. Store-goals campaigns require you to define which locations to promote. A connected profile is therefore not proof that every campaign is using every location.

The location is selected but you do not see an ad

Selection makes a location eligible; it does not guarantee an impression. Campaign status, audience and geographic targeting, relevance, the search or page context and auction competition can prevent an ad from appearing in any one search or view.

Why a location is missing

1. The wrong Business Profile account or group is connected

Google Ads needs access to the Business Profile manager account or business group that owns the locations. If your locations are managed under another account, the connection may show no locations or only an incomplete set. The setup flow can request access to another manager account, but that account’s owner must approve the request.

2. Synchronization has not finished

Google says it can take 24–28 hours for locations to appear as synced after location assets are set up. A location added or edited today may therefore be absent until the synchronization window has passed. Repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting during that period can make diagnosis harder.

3. The campaign is using a different location selection

For store locations, campaign setup normally offers a choice between all locations from the connected source and a specific Location Group. If the missing address is not in the selected group, it will not be promoted by that campaign even though it is present in the Business Profile.

4. The location is not eligible or its asset is inactive

Check that the location is set up and verified in the Business Profile where verification is required. In Google Ads, check the location asset status at the campaign level and, where applicable, the ad-group level. A disabled asset, a removed location or an account-level policy issue can prevent serving. Verification is also relevant to eligibility for store-visit measurement, so an unverified location should not be treated as fully ready.

5. The campaign does not have a store-location goal

Performance Max is used for several objectives. A campaign without a store-oriented goal may not be configured to promote physical locations in the way you expect. For campaigns with store goals, Google explicitly asks the advertiser to define the locations to promote; having a profile alone does not make that choice for you.

6. You added conflicting geographic targeting

For Performance Max campaigns for store goals, Google advises against adding extra geographic or radius targets on top of the selected store locations. Dynamic radius targeting is already applied around the chosen stores. Additional geo settings can create a configuration that is narrower or inconsistent with the store-location setup.

7. Eligibility is being confused with delivery

A correctly linked, selected and active location can still receive no impression in a particular search. Performance Max decides whether to enter and win an auction using campaign status, targeting, location setup, relevance and competition. Judge the configuration first, then evaluate delivery over enough activity to distinguish a setup error from normal auction behavior.

Fix the connection and selection in order

Use this sequence so each check builds on the previous one.

  1. Identify the exact location. Record the business name, address and the Business Profile account or business group that manages it. This prevents you from troubleshooting a duplicate listing or the wrong manager account.
  2. Open the Google Ads location-asset or Business Profile connection settings. Confirm that the connected source is the manager account or business group that owns the missing location. If another manager account owns it, use the access-request option in the setup flow and wait for the owner’s approval.
  3. Confirm that the location is present in the imported list. Do not proceed based only on seeing the Business Profile on Google Search or Maps. The location must be visible to Google Ads as an available location asset.
  4. Wait for the import to synchronize. Allow the full 24–28-hour window Google documents. During that time, avoid making several connection changes unless you discover an obvious permissions error.
  5. Check the campaign’s location choice. Open the Performance Max campaign’s store-location settings. Choose all locations if every imported location should be promoted, or choose the Location Group that contains the intended address.
  6. Build or edit the Location Group when necessary. A group is useful when only certain branches, regions or store formats belong in a campaign. Add the exact imported locations to that group, save it, and then select that group in the campaign rather than assuming the campaign will inherit a newly created group.
  7. Inspect asset status. Make sure the relevant location asset is active at the campaign level and is not disabled or excluded in a lower-level setting. Resolve any warning shown beside the location before evaluating ad delivery.
  8. Review the campaign goal. Confirm that the campaign is configured for the store-oriented objective you intend to use. If it is a different Performance Max objective, its behavior and available location controls may not match a store-goals campaign.
  9. Remove unnecessary radius or extra geo targets. For store-goals campaigns, retain the selected store locations and the dynamic radius behavior Google applies. Only add other geographic controls when you have a documented reason and understand how they change reach.
  10. Test delivery separately from setup. After the configuration is correct, review campaign status and reporting over time. Do not conclude that the location is broken because it did not appear in one search, map view or auction.

Choose the right location source

Google Ads distinguishes between locations you own or operate and affiliate locations where retailers sell your products. The correct source depends on the relationship with the physical site.

Location source Use it when What to verify
Your own locations You operate the business locations and manage them through a linked Business Profile, a chain-store setup or eligible Google Maps locations. The connected manager account or business group owns the listings, and the intended locations are imported and verified.
Affiliate locations Another retailer sells your products and you want to promote those retailers rather than claim the sites as your own. The affiliate relationship and available retailer locations are supported by the campaign setup; do not select your own-location path by mistake.

Within your own-location path, decide whether the campaign should use every imported location or only a Location Group. “All locations” is appropriate when one campaign has the same objective and creative strategy for every branch. A selected group is safer when campaigns are split by region, store format or business line.

Use the campaign-level checks that matter

Location Group membership

Open the group selected by the campaign and search for the exact address. Similar names, duplicate profiles and recently moved locations can make a group look complete when the intended listing is absent. If the group contains a duplicate or outdated listing, remove that entry and add the active imported location.

Asset status at each level

Check the account’s location assets first, then the campaign settings. If your account structure exposes an ad-group-level location control, inspect it as well. A location that is active globally can still be disabled or excluded in a more specific setting.

Store-goals configuration

Store-goals campaigns are not a passive feed from your Business Profile. The advertiser defines the locations to promote. Treat the location selection as a required campaign input, not an optional enhancement.

Geographic targeting

Do not layer a manual radius around each store simply because you want local reach. Google’s guidance for store-goals Performance Max is to rely on the dynamic radius applied to selected locations. Extra geo or radius settings can restrict delivery or produce results that appear inconsistent with the store list.

Diagnose the symptom with this quick table

What you see Most likely explanation Next action
No locations from the profile appear in Google Ads Wrong manager account, missing approval or a connection that has not synchronized. Confirm ownership and permissions, request access if needed, then allow 24–28 hours.
Some branches appear, but one address does not The branch is not imported, is in a different Business Profile group, is unverified or is still syncing. Check the exact listing in the imported locations and its Business Profile status.
The address is imported but absent from the campaign The campaign uses a Location Group that excludes it, or the asset is inactive at campaign level. Edit the group or select all locations, then check asset status.
The address is selected but no ad is visible in a search Normal auction and relevance factors, campaign status or targeting—not necessarily a location error. Review eligibility and delivery over time rather than using one search as a test.
Reach is unexpectedly narrow around stores Additional radius or geographic targets are constraining a store-goals campaign. Remove unnecessary extra geo controls and keep the intended store selection.

If the location is still missing after 28 hours

  1. Recheck ownership. Make sure the listing belongs to the manager account or business group connected to the Google Ads account, not to a personal account or another organization.
  2. Check approval status. An access request remains ineffective until the owner approves it. Ask the owner to confirm the granted access and then revisit the connection.
  3. Compare the exact listing. Confirm the address, business name and duplicate status. A profile visible publicly may not be the same record that Google Ads is attempting to import.
  4. Review verification and policy warnings. Resolve any Business Profile verification issue and any Google Ads warning attached to the location asset.
  5. Inspect the selected group again. The campaign may still reference an older Location Group even after you created a new one. Select the intended group explicitly.
  6. Check campaign status and objective. A paused, limited or differently configured campaign can make a valid location look unusable. Confirm that the campaign is active and has the store-oriented setup you intended.
  7. Escalate with specific evidence. If the source, approval, sync window, group membership and asset status are all correct, contact Google Ads support with the account, campaign, location address and the dates of the connection and approval. Interface labels can change, so describe the settings you see rather than relying on an old screenshot.

Prevent the problem when adding new branches

  • Keep a single, clearly identified Business Profile manager account or business group for the locations used by advertising.
  • Decide in advance whether each campaign uses all locations or a named Location Group.
  • Add a new branch to the Business Profile, complete required verification, and allow the 24–28-hour synchronization window before judging its availability.
  • Document which campaigns should include the branch and check their location selections after the import.
  • Keep store-goals campaigns free of unnecessary radius overlays unless there is a deliberate targeting requirement.
  • When diagnosing delivery, separate “the location is eligible” from “an ad appeared in this particular auction.”

Bottom line

Your Google Business Profile will appear in Performance Max only after Google Ads can access the correct location source, the locations have synchronized, and the campaign selects them through all locations or the appropriate Location Group. Verify the listing and asset status, allow 24–28 hours for syncing, use the store-goals location controls without extra radius targeting, and treat ad visibility in any single search as a delivery question rather than proof that the profile is disconnected.
