A Galaxy Watch that charges slowly is usually dealing with one of four problems: the charging puck does not match the watch generation, the USB power source is unsuitable, the watch is misaligned or obstructed, or heat is limiting charging. Start by identifying the exact watch model and matching puck, then test that puck from a USB Power Delivery adapter rated at least 5V/2A. Clean and dry both charging surfaces, remove cases or metal accessories, and let hot equipment cool. If charging remains slow with the correct dedicated charger and a genuine compatible adapter, run Samsung Members diagnostics and arrange service with both accessories.
How slow is slow for your Galaxy Watch?
Charging time depends on the watch size, generation, battery temperature, battery level and whether the watch supports standard, faster or fast charging. Samsung’s published estimates are useful only when you match the exact model and charging mode.

| Model | Published estimate | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch9 40mm | 80 minutes | Normal charge; Samsung lists fast charge as unavailable for this size. |
| Galaxy Watch9 44mm | 90 minutes | Normal charge; Samsung lists fast charge as unavailable for this size. |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra2 | 90 minutes fast charge; 190 minutes normal charge | Mode-specific estimate using the dedicated fast charger. |
These figures come from Samsung U.S. Support’s model-specific “Galaxy Watch Ultra2 or Watch9 is charging slowly” page, current as of October 13, 2026. They are estimates, not guarantees for every battery condition or environment. Samsung does not publish a percentage showing how often each slow-charging cause occurs.

Identify the watch generation before changing the charger
Galaxy Watch pucks are not interchangeable by appearance alone. Samsung warns that an incompatible puck can charge slowly, fail to charge, repeatedly connect and disconnect, or display an error. Confirm the precise watch model and the market in which it was sold before ordering a replacement.
Check the model name and number in the watch’s device information, on its packaging, or in the paired phone’s Galaxy Wearable device information. Write down the exact generation, size and edition before shopping. “Galaxy Watch” or a case diameter alone is not enough: Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch8, Watch9 and Ultra models can require different pucks even when a puck appears to fit.
| Watch generation | Samsung charger model | Charging capability noted by Samsung |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch5 and Watch6 | EP-OR900 | Faster-than-standard charging is supported. |
| Galaxy Watch7, Watch8, Watch8 Classic, Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra | EP-OL300 | Faster-than-standard charging is supported. |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra2 | EP-OL715 | Fast Charging is supported with its dedicated fast charger. |
| Galaxy Watch4, Watch3, Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch Active | Samsung’s cited guidance does not state a puck part number on the general charger page. | Standard charging only. |
A puck that fits physically can still be electrically or magnetically unsuitable. Do not assume that a higher-wattage adapter, a generic Qi pad or a puck from another Galaxy Watch generation will increase speed. Samsung recommends a dedicated, model-compatible wireless charger; third-party chargers can create compatibility problems.
Make sure the USB power source can supply the puck
The puck is only one part of the charging system. Samsung’s guidance for the listed wireless chargers calls for USB Power Delivery (USB PD) and at least 5V/2A. A dedicated puck can therefore charge slowly when it is connected to the wrong adapter or port.
Sources that can limit charging
- Older AFC or Quick Charge adapters that do not provide the expected USB PD negotiation.
- Some power banks, particularly when their output is shared or restricted.
- Computer USB ports that do not provide enough current.
- Multi-port hubs or docks whose available power drops when other devices are connected.
For a clean test, connect the puck directly to a suitable wall outlet through a compatible USB PD adapter rated at least 5V/2A. Bypass the computer, hub and power bank so only the watch, puck, adapter and outlet remain in the test chain. Samsung lists EP-TA800, EP-TA845, EP-TA865, EP-TA220, EP-T4511, EP-T1510, EP-T6530, EP-TB010 and EP-T2510 as adapter examples in its charger guidance. Availability and compatibility can vary by country, so verify the specification for your market. A higher wattage rating does not by itself make the watch charge faster; the watch and puck determine the charging rate.

If the watch charges normally from the direct wall setup but slows again on a hub or computer, the watch is probably not the limiting component. Treat that result as a source limitation and keep the direct wall arrangement for regular charging. If it is slow in both arrangements, continue with the puck, alignment and temperature checks rather than repeatedly swapping high-wattage adapters.
Remove physical causes of slow or interrupted charging
Before buying anything, inspect the contact between the watch and puck. Wireless charging is sensitive to spacing and alignment.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Remove a thick case, cover, metal ring, decorative plate or other accessory between the watch and puck.
- Take off bands or attachments that prevent the watch from lying flat.
- Center the watch on the puck so the rear charging area sits directly over the charging coil.
- Remove dust, lint and debris from the watch back and the puck.
- Ensure both surfaces are completely dry. Use a soft, dry cloth only; do not use liquids or metal tools.
- Keep coins, keys and other metal objects away from the space between the watch and pad.
Samsung specifically cautions that the charging pad is not waterproof. If moisture is present, disconnect the charger, dry the surfaces and wait before testing again. Do not put the pad under running water simply because the watch itself has water resistance. A dry, unobstructed surface and a flat, centered watch remove the most common physical variables at once.
Check temperature and alternative charging methods
Charging can slow when the watch or charger becomes hot. Stop the charge, move both away from heat and let them return to room temperature before trying again. Charging inside direct sunlight, under bedding or in a hot vehicle can make thermal limits appear to be a charger fault.
Do not judge performance immediately after moving a hot watch to a new puck. Let the equipment cool, then repeat the same direct-wall test with the watch positioned consistently. If charging is normal when cool but slows only when the watch heats up, avoid insulating the watch or covering the puck and seek service if the temperature behavior becomes unusual.

Wireless Power Sharing from a phone is not a reliable baseline for diagnosing a slow puck. Its speed depends on the phone’s remaining battery and operating conditions, and Samsung notes that the newer models covered on its support page do not support Wireless Power Sharing. Use the watch’s dedicated compatible puck and a proper wall adapter when testing. If your exact model supports phone sharing, treat it as an emergency option rather than a replacement for the dedicated charger.

- Record the exact watch model. Check the model name and number shown on the watch, its packaging or the paired phone’s device information. Do not proceed on the assumption that a similarly sized Galaxy Watch uses the same puck.
- Match the puck to the generation. Use EP-OR900 for Watch5 or Watch6, EP-OL300 for Watch7, Watch8, Watch8 Classic, Watch9 or Galaxy Watch Ultra, and EP-OL715 for Galaxy Watch Ultra2. For older watches, use the charger specified for that model rather than a visually similar replacement.
- Change the power source. Connect the puck to a USB PD wall adapter rated at least 5V/2A. Bypass a PC port, hub and questionable power bank. Test with the wall outlet and adapter directly.
- Rebuild the physical setup. Remove cases and obstructive accessories, place the watch flat and centered, and clear metal objects from the charging area.
- Clean and dry. Wipe the watch back and puck with a soft, dry cloth. Do not put the pad under running water or insert anything metallic into the charging area.
- Cool the equipment. If the watch or puck feels hot, disconnect it and wait until both have cooled before restarting the test.
- Use the dedicated puck for the comparison. Stop using phone Wireless Power Sharing or a generic pad as your diagnostic reference, especially if your model is one Samsung says does not support that feature.
- Observe the result. A stable charging icon and a steadily increasing percentage indicate that the basic connection is working. Repeated connect-disconnect sounds, an error message or no percentage increase point to compatibility, power, alignment or hardware trouble.
- Run Samsung’s diagnostic test. On the paired phone, open Samsung Members and go to Support > Connected device diagnostics > connected Galaxy Watch > Wireless charging test, where that option is available. Samsung notes that names and locations can vary with the phone, watch and software version.
- Escalate if the correct setup still charges slowly. If the watch remains slow with its dedicated compatible puck and a genuine compatible adapter, arrange a Samsung service-center evaluation and take both the charger and adapter.
Change one variable at a time when possible. For example, first use the correct puck with the existing adapter, then repeat with a confirmed USB PD adapter. This makes it clear whether the source or the puck changed the result. Keep notes of which puck, adapter and outlet produced each behavior; that information is useful if service is required.
Compare the charging approaches correctly
| Approach | Compatibility requirement | What to expect | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dedicated Samsung puck for the exact generation | Correct puck model and suitable USB PD adapter at 5V/2A or higher | Most reliable route; supports the charging mode designed for that watch. | Normal daily charging and troubleshooting. |
| Phone Wireless Power Sharing | Phone and watch must both support the feature; newer models listed by Samsung may not. | Usually slower and affected by the phone’s battery and conditions. | Short-term emergency charging when supported. |
| Generic third-party Qi pad | No guaranteed Galaxy Watch compatibility. | May charge slowly, fail to start or repeatedly reconnect. | Not a dependable fix for a slow Galaxy Watch. |
| PC port or multi-port hub | Port must provide adequate power and the puck must negotiate correctly. | Output can be insufficient or shared with other devices. | Convenient only when it passes a stable charging test. |
Samsung’s general guidance distinguishes charging modes by generation: Watch4, Watch3, Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch Active support standard charging; the Watch5 through Watch9 generations listed above support faster-than-standard charging; and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 supports Fast Charging with its dedicated fast charger. Comparing a standard-only watch with a fast-charging model is therefore misleading even when both use a similar-looking puck.
Read the symptoms before replacing hardware
| Symptom | Most useful first check | Likely interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Charging starts and stops repeatedly | Remove the case, recenter the watch and confirm the puck matches the generation. | Alignment, obstruction or incompatible puck is more likely than battery capacity. |
| No charging icon appears | Try a USB PD wall adapter and inspect for moisture or debris. | Insufficient power, wet/dirty surfaces or a failed connection. |
| Charging works but takes far longer than the model estimate | Test when cool with the dedicated puck and a direct wall connection. | Heat, adapter limits or a non-matching charging mode may be restricting speed. |
| Phone sharing is slow but the dedicated puck is normal | Use the dedicated puck for regular charging. | Phone sharing is the limiting method, not necessarily the watch. |
| Slow charging continues after every setup check | Run Samsung Members wireless charging diagnostics and prepare both accessories for service. | A puck, adapter, watch coil, battery or other hardware fault needs evaluation. |
What to check before buying a replacement
Read the replacement listing for the complete part number, not just a phrase such as “Galaxy Watch charger.” Match EP-OR900, EP-OL300 or EP-OL715 to the exact generation where applicable, and check that the listing is for the charger rather than only a cable or decorative stand. Confirm that the adapter you plan to use supports USB PD and at least 5V/2A. A compatible puck paired with an unsuitable adapter can reproduce the original slow-charging problem.
For an older Watch4, Watch3, Watch Active2 or Galaxy Watch Active, Samsung’s general guidance identifies standard charging but does not provide a puck part number on that page. Use the model-specific Samsung support information for your market instead of inferring compatibility from a newer part number. Product names, stock and regional packaging can change, so verify the local listing before ordering.

When to replace the charger and when to request service
Replace the puck only after confirming the model
The most direct replacement is a Samsung charger made for the exact generation: an EP-OR900 replacement for Watch5 or Watch6, an EP-OL300 replacement for Watch7, Watch8, Watch8 Classic, Watch9 or Galaxy Watch Ultra, or an EP-OL715 replacement for Ultra2. Confirm regional model compatibility and current stock before purchase. If the existing puck is compatible but the adapter is suspect, a USB PD wall adapter rated at least 5V/2A is the secondary part to investigate.
Bring both accessories to service
Samsung’s U.S. Support instruction is explicit: “If the charging speed is still slow even when using the dedicated Galaxy Watch wireless charger and a genuine power adapter, please visit a Samsung service center with both the charger and adapter.” Bringing both items lets the technician test the complete charging chain instead of judging the watch alone.
Seek service rather than continuing to experiment if the watch becomes unusually hot, the back or puck is physically damaged, charging repeatedly disconnects with the correct setup, or the battery percentage does not rise after a sustained connection. Do not disassemble the watch or pad to inspect the coil.
Regional and software caveats
The guidance summarized here comes from Samsung U.S. and Canada support material. Samsung’s Canada charger-optimization page was updated August 14, 2026. Charger names, retail availability, supported models and Samsung Members menus can differ by country, watch edition and software version. Verify the model sold in your market before following a part-number recommendation, and use the local Samsung support page if its instructions differ.

Does a higher-wattage wall adapter make a Galaxy Watch charge faster?
Not by itself. The puck and watch determine the charging rate. Use a compatible USB Power Delivery adapter rated at least 5V/2A, but do not expect extra wattage alone to accelerate charging.
Why is my watch slow on a computer USB port?
A PC port may not provide enough power, and a hub may share its output with other devices. Test the dedicated puck directly from a suitable USB PD wall adapter and outlet.
Can I charge a Galaxy Watch on a generic Qi pad?
Samsung recommends a dedicated, model-compatible watch charger. A generic Qi pad is not a guaranteed fix and may charge slowly, fail to start or repeatedly reconnect.

Is phone Wireless Power Sharing a good charging test?
No. Its speed depends on the phone’s battery and conditions, and Samsung says the newer models covered by its guidance do not support it. Use the dedicated puck and wall adapter for diagnosis.
What should I do if the watch or puck gets hot?
Stop charging and let both return to room temperature away from sunlight, bedding or other heat. Repeat the test when cool. Seek service if unusual heat continues with the correct setup.
Where is the Galaxy Watch wireless-charging diagnostic?
On the paired phone, open Samsung Members and choose Support, Connected device diagnostics, the connected Galaxy Watch and Wireless charging test, where available. Menu names can vary by software and model.
When should I contact Samsung?
Contact Samsung if charging remains slow with the correct dedicated puck and a genuine compatible USB PD adapter, or if charging repeatedly disconnects, the watch becomes unusually hot or the percentage does not rise. Bring the watch, charger and adapter to the service center.
The Bottom Line
Match the puck to the exact Galaxy Watch generation, power it from a USB PD adapter rated at least 5V/2A, and test with the watch flat, centered, clean, dry and cool. If that controlled setup is still slow, run Samsung Members diagnostics and take both accessories to Samsung service.
