Start by checking whether your characters’ Z Abilities actually buff one another: build around a shared Tag or Episode, then verify coverage in the game’s Party Formation filters and Character Details. After that, inspect the three fighters you bring into a standard match, their progression, and your decisions in recent battles. Without your roster and match evidence, no guide can identify the specific reason you are losing.
1. Check Z Ability coverage and team identity
A party can contain individually appealing characters and still lack synergy. Bandai Namco’s party-formation FAQ recommends: “First, try building a party around Z Abilities.” Choose a Tag or Episode that fits the characters you own and intend to use, then confirm that their Z Abilities apply to the intended teammates.

- Open Party Formation and use the filters for Tags or Episodes to find candidates that share an identity.
- Open each candidate’s Character Details and read the Z Ability conditions. Check which Tags, Episodes, or other requirements it names.
- Confirm that the ability applies to the fighters you expect to bring into battle. Do not assume a character helps the whole party just because it occupies a party slot.
A community-hosted beginner-event notice describes an additional interface clue: a character icon can show how many Z or Zenkai Abilities apply, and a glowing icon indicates that Z Abilities are applying. 2. Audit the three fighters you actually use
In standard battle rules, you select three fighters from a party of six. The other three may contribute party abilities, but they do not fight in that match. Evaluate both the party-wide support and the likely battle trio. Bandai Namco’s battle guide explains standard battle controls and formats.
- Buff coverage: Which relevant Z Abilities apply to each of your likely battle members?
- Battle function: Based on each fighter’s documented abilities, what does that character contribute to this trio?
- Threat response: Can the trio deal with the opponents or situations you repeatedly struggle against?
Consider survivability, damage, and the jobs your characters can perform, but judge those roles from their actual abilities rather than relying on a universal role formula. The available official guidance does not establish a mandatory color spread or one best equipment setup. In PROUD, the format differs: all six party members are used across a best-of-three, so assess the full lineup for that ruleset.

3. Compare your progression without treating spending as the fix
When two options look similar, compare their Limit Breaks and other relevant progression. Bandai Namco’s Limit Break FAQ says Limit Breaks raise stats at certain thresholds and improve Z Abilities at 3, 6, and 7+ stars. It also says that some characters at 7 stars can Zenkai Awaken if you collect the required Awakening Z Power.

4. Review recent losses for execution patterns
A roster change will not fix a repeated battle-timing problem. Review a few recent matches and look for specific moments rather than assuming that every loss has the same cause:
- Did you try to use Vanishing Step when the Vanishing Gauge was not full?
- Could you have switched characters before taking a hit? Switching restores the Vanishing Gauge, according to the official battle guide.
- Did you spend Arts Cards without a clear plan for the exchange?
- After collecting seven Dragon Balls, did you have an opportunity to use Rising Rush?
These are prompts for reviewing your own matches, not a diagnosis of gameplay nobody has seen. If the party’s buffs and battle members make sense, repeated issues in gauge timing, switches, or card use may be more useful to address than another roster change.

5. Compare alternative lineups on the same criteria
If you have more than one plausible lineup, compare them side by side. Focus on what can be checked in-game rather than on a vague impression that one group looks stronger.

6. Treat current-team rankings as time-sensitive
Character recommendations can become outdated as the roster changes. The official game site listed character ability notices on September 8 and September 22, 2026, but release notices do not establish which characters or teams currently rank highest in PvP. Official game news.

No dependable dated official PvP tier list is established here, so there is no basis to name a definitive strongest team. If you consult an outside ranking, check its publication date and the evidence it gives for ranked-team performance; do not treat an undated recommendation or another player’s party as proof that it will work for your roster.
What to share for a specific team diagnosis
To get useful help with a question like “What is wrong with my team?” or “Can someone help me build a team for PvP?”, include the six-character party, which three you select, their relevant progression and equipment, the battle format, and a replay or a description of the moments where matches turn against you. Those details let someone check ability coverage and battle decisions instead of guessing from a team screenshot alone.
