A Coinbase crypto purchase can be pending because payment has not settled or a required bank authorization is incomplete. Buying may be unavailable because of identity checks, account or regional restrictions, a payment-method problem, a negative balance, or a bank disruption. First identify whether the pending item is the purchase itself, its funding deposit, crypto that is temporarily on hold from sending, or an on-chain transfer: each has a different fix.
First, identify what is pending
Open the purchase or deposit in your transaction history and read its exact status. Check the confirmation email and any estimated completion or availability date. Coinbase says completion times vary by region, asset type, and payment method; an order marked pending is not complete. Its general pending-transactions guidance concerns on-chain transfers, not purchase orders or bank deposits.

- Purchase pending: The order has not completed. Payment settlement or bank authorization may still be outstanding.
- Bank deposit pending: The funds used to pay for the purchase have not settled.
- Crypto visible but unavailable to send or cash out: The purchase may have completed while a separate hold limits what you can transfer.
- On-chain transfer pending: Crypto has been sent to or from a wallet and is awaiting network confirmation. That is different from a pending purchase.

If Coinbase says buying or funding is unavailable
Coinbase lists several possible reasons for disabled buying or funding. The notice shown in your account is the best guide to which one applies.

- Identity verification is incomplete: Complete any requested verification steps in your account.
- Your account is limited: Review the restriction notice and follow its account-specific instructions. Coinbase may restrict transactions for security, compliance, operational, or geographic reasons, and it may disable buying and selling for activity prohibited by its User Agreement.
- Your payment method is unverified or limited: Check the payment details and verify that the legal name matches your Coinbase account. If the payment method itself is limited, another available method may help; it will not necessarily remove an account-level restriction.
- Your balance is negative: Resolve the outstanding amount before trying to fund the account again.
- Your region does not support the service: Available transaction types depend on location and account setup. Changing your location does not guarantee that buying will become available.
- Your bank has a disruption: Check with the bank if Coinbase identifies a bank-side issue or your payment has not been processed.
For the relevant account notice and next steps, consult Coinbase’s guidance on being unable to buy crypto or fund an account. If the notice says buying or selling was disabled for a prohibited activity, use the account notice or Coinbase Support rather than repeatedly retrying.
If the purchase is waiting on bank funding or authorization
Coinbase says ACH and wire funding typically take 1–3 business days to settle. This is a typical settlement estimate for those funding methods, not a promise that every crypto order will complete within that period. Bank checks or missing bank authorization can add delays. U.S. bank-account payments
For U.S. customers, Coinbase describes ACH bank transfers, debit cards, and wire transfers as payment methods. A linked bank account must belong to the customer, have a name matching the Coinbase account, and be verified. Before confirming, Coinbase shows when bank-funded purchases or deposits will be available to send or cash out. Debit-card verification outside the United States
In supported countries outside the U.S., a card purchase may require 3D Secure authorization through the bank. If the bank redirect times out or fails, Coinbase suggests trying Chrome with extensions and popup blockers disabled, or using the Coinbase app for iOS or Android. If crypto appears in your balance but cannot be sent
A displayed crypto balance does not necessarily mean the entire amount is available to transfer or cash out. Coinbase says cash deposits can be held from sending or cashing out for security and fraud-prevention reasons. The confirmation email provides an estimated availability date; the hold can depend on account, payment, and transaction history. Coinbase says Support cannot shorten the hold period.
Check the available-balance view and the confirmation email for the amount and date that apply to your account. Some temporary restrictions may persist after an initial hold period; the account message may advise waiting and trying again or withdrawing to the originating bank account. Who to contact if the status does not resolve
- Contact your bank if Coinbase identifies a bank disruption, card authorization issue, or a transfer the bank has not processed.
- Contact Coinbase through your signed-in account if identity verification is stuck, an account limitation is unexplained, the estimated availability date has passed, or the transaction’s exact status does not fit the general guidance.
When asking for help, have the amount, date and time, payment method, exact status text, and any error code available. Do not share your password, seed phrase, or authentication codes.
