A blank XREAL display usually points to one of four things: a loose or unsuitable cable, a source device that cannot output USB-C DisplayPort video, a screen-position issue, or an app that blocks external displays. Start by checking what appears when you connect the glasses; the logo, a DP warning, and an app-only black screen each suggest a different next step.
Start with the symptom
| What you see | What to check next |
|---|---|
| No XREAL logo | Reseat the cable, check that it is suitable for video, then try a known DP-capable device. |
| XREAL logo followed by a DP warning | Check whether the source supports USB-C DisplayPort video output, then reconnect. |
| Connection appears normal, but the image is misplaced in Anchor mode | Long-press the X button to recenter the display. |
| Black screen in only one app | Check the app’s external-display behavior and whether protected content is restricted. |
XREAL’s One Series black-screen guide uses these symptom distinctions. Its advice is specific to the documented glasses and modes; check the instructions for your exact model.

Reseat the cable and inspect the connection
- Disconnect the cable from both the glasses and the source device.
- Reconnect it firmly at both ends.
- Use the cable supplied with the glasses if available. If replacing it, choose a full-featured USB-C cable that supports DisplayPort video transmission—not just charging or data.
- If the glasses still show no logo after repeated reconnections, try them with another device known to support DP video output.
If the logo still does not appear with a known-compatible device, contact XREAL support. XREAL’s guidance recommends checking the official data cable and testing another DP-capable device when the logo is absent.
Confirm that the source can send video over USB-C
A USB-C port’s shape does not tell you whether it can drive an external display. For a direct connection, check the specifications for the exact phone, computer, or handheld model and confirm USB-C DisplayPort output, often called DP Alt Mode. A port that supports only charging or data will not directly send video to the glasses. Support and compatibility vary by device model and manufacturer.

For ROG XREAL R1, XREAL documents direct USB-C connection for devices with DP Alt Mode or Thunderbolt 4. The ROG XREAL R1 connection guide describes the ROG Control Dock as an option for sources without USB-C video output, using HDMI or DisplayPort. This route is specific to ROG XREAL R1; do not assume the same dock or connection method applies to other XREAL glasses.
For the glasses covered by XREAL’s Device Connection guide, the documented options include direct USB-C DP video and HDMI-to-USB-C adapters for HDMI sources. The guide also describes an official XREAL Hub for Switch and Switch OLED setups. Check exact glasses and source compatibility before choosing an adapter or hub, since connection paths can differ by model generation.
Use the logo or warning to narrow the problem
No XREAL logo
Check the seating and video capability of the cable, then test with a device known to support DP video. If the logo remains absent after repeated reconnections, contact XREAL support.

Logo appears, then a DP warning
XREAL says this warning means the DP signal was not successfully detected. Verify that the source supports video output over USB-C and reconnect the cable. If the source does support DP video but the warning persists, contact the host-device manufacturer or XREAL.
Image is misplaced in Anchor mode
If the connection appears normal but the image is not where expected in Anchor mode, long-press the X button to recenter the display. This is a positioning check for that mode, not a general fix for every blank screen.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If only one app has a black screen
Disconnect and reconnect the glasses, then close and reopen the affected app. Check whether the app allows content to be sent to an external display. Some apps restrict external-screen playback because of DRM or HDCP content protection; in that case, the glasses and cable may be working normally, and changing cables will not remove the restriction. XREAL explains this limitation in its One Series troubleshooting guide.

Update firmware when the basic checks are not enough
For XREAL One Series, XREAL documents firmware updates through its OTA page on a Windows or Mac computer, or through the update prompt when the glasses are connected to a Wi-Fi-connected Beam Pro. XREAL estimates that an update takes about five minutes; that is the company’s stated estimate, not a guaranteed duration. Follow the model-specific instructions in the XREAL One Series FAQ. A firmware update is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix for every blank screen.

One Series network-device recognition: an exceptional case
If a phone or TV box recognizes XREAL One Series glasses as a network device, or loses network access when they are connected, XREAL documents a specific advanced setting. Its instructions say to update firmware first and disable TCP/IP only when this misidentification occurs. This is not a first-line remedy for an ordinary display failure; see XREAL’s TCP/IP instructions.
What to send XREAL support
If the checks do not resolve the problem, provide enough detail to distinguish a signal fault from a compatibility or app issue:
- The exact XREAL glasses model and source-device model.
- How they are connected, including the cable, adapter, or dock.
- Whether the XREAL logo appears and the exact text of any warning.
- Whether another known DP-compatible device works with the glasses.
- The name of the app, if the black screen occurs only there.
XREAL’s One Series troubleshooting guide specifically asks for the device model and affected app when the issue is app-specific.
