UnitedHealth Group shares rose 2.6% in Associated Press morning market coverage on October 13, 2026, after the company reported quarterly revenue and profit above analyst expectations and raised its full-year adjusted earnings outlook. The 2.6% figure is a morning snapshot, not the stock’s closing result. The company reported $112.7 billion in third-quarter revenue and adjusted earnings of $4.69 per share, and forecast full-year adjusted earnings of at least $20.50 per share.

What UnitedHealth Group reported for Q3 2026

In its October 13 release, UnitedHealth Group reported third-quarter revenue of $112.7 billion and earnings from operations of $6.6 billion. It reported diluted earnings per share of $4.56 and adjusted earnings per share of $4.69. Those are separate measures: the adjusted figure should not be described as the company’s reported diluted EPS. UnitedHealth Group’s Q3 2026 results.

The Associated Press said revenue and profit exceeded analyst expectations, but its reported passage does not include the consensus estimates. That supports the direction of the earnings comparison, not a precise dollar or percentage surprise. Associated Press market coverage, October 13, 2026.

Why the stock gained

The reported share move followed two pieces of news investors commonly assess together: the quarter’s results were described as better than analysts expected, and management raised its profit forecast for the full year. AP attributed the morning gain to those factors. The report does not establish that they were the only influences on trading.

UnitedHealth CEO Stephen Hemsley said in the company’s release: “Our third quarter results reflect the discipline and execution our teams are bringing to every part of our business, as we continue evolving UnitedHealth Group to deliver a simpler, more supportive experience for patients and the clinicians who care for them.” That is management’s characterization of the quarter, rather than a separate measure of financial performance.

The raised forecast is distinct from the quarterly result

UnitedHealth raised its 2026 full-year adjusted net earnings outlook to at least $20.50 per share. That is a forward-looking company forecast, not earnings already earned. In its Q2 release, the company had set a full-year adjusted earnings outlook of $19.50 to $20.00 per share; the Q3 update therefore represented a higher outlook. UnitedHealth Group’s Q2 2026 results.

Rank #2

For context, Q2 revenue was $112.0 billion, operating earnings were $8.0 billion, and adjusted EPS was $6.38. The Q3 figures show higher revenue than Q2 but lower operating earnings and adjusted EPS. A quarter-to-quarter comparison alone does not explain the full-year forecast change or establish why the stock moved; AP’s account of the market reaction specifically points to results versus expectations and the raised annual outlook.

What the 2.6% figure does—and does not—tell you

AP reported that UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) climbed 2.6% in its October 13 morning market coverage. This is a time-specific report from early in the trading day. It is not a verified closing move, and the earnings report does not by itself predict later share performance or make the stock a buy. Investors weighing the news separately would need to consider their own objectives and a current share price, as well as the risks and information beyond this quarterly release.
