What did Alisa Simmons say to the Marine veteran?
The Dallas Express reported that, during the August 19, 2025 Tarrant County Commissioners Court meeting, Commissioner Alisa Simmons confronted Elections Administrator Clint Ludwig as officials considered polling locations for the November 4, 2025 joint special and constitutional amendment election. The report quoted Simmons as telling Ludwig, “you’re not worth two damn cents,” and later, “And don’t you ever say anything about being a Marine again.” It also reported that Simmons referred to her son’s Marine service and called Ludwig “embarrassing.” The meeting video linked in the report was not available for independent transcript verification, so these quotations should be understood as reported by the newspaper, not as wording independently confirmed here. What did the polling-site vote decide?
The official Commissioners Court minutes show Simmons first moved to table the polling-location proposal; that motion failed 2-3. She then offered an amendment adding four early-voting locations, which passed 4-1. That sequence matters: Simmons did vote against the final amended list, but she also proposed an amendment that added four early-voting sites. The recorded votes do not support describing her position simply as opposition to adding polling locations.

Did Simmons vote against bulletproof vests for deputies?
The Dallas Express reported that Simmons was the lone opposing voter, 1-4, on an August 15, 2023 annual contract with GT Distributors Inc. The report described it as an as-needed purchase of body armor for specialized sheriff’s units, including Warrants, Criminal Investigation, and Human Trafficking. The underlying county contract packet was not available for independent verification here, so the contract’s scope and vote tally are attributed to the newspaper. The Dallas Express report
O’Hare’s campaign framed that vote more broadly, saying Simmons “voted against funding bulletproof vests for our deputies.” The reported item was a vote on one particular contract, not a documented vote against all funding for deputies’ body armor. O’Hare also wrote of Simmons: “She repeatedly attacks county staff who don’t support her false narratives.” Both statements are campaign characterizations, rather than findings made by the county minutes cited above. What happened to Deputy Todd Tipton?
O’Hare tied the vest vote to Deputy Todd Tipton’s shooting in a campaign post. His full message said: “Deputy Todd Tipton was shot three times while serving a warrant on a child sex offender. He survived. Not every deputy will be so fortunate. Alisa Simmons voted against funding bulletproof vests for our deputies. Voters deserve to know.” That links the 2023 contract vote to a later incident as campaign argument; it is not evidence that the contract vote caused Tipton’s injuries or that body armor would have prevented them.
The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said Tipton was shot three times on August 7, 2024, after a suspect opened fire while deputies served felony warrants at a Fort Worth home. The suspect was wanted for crimes against children, and fellow deputies pulled Tipton to safety. The sheriff’s release does not state that a lack of body armor caused Tipton’s injuries or connect the shooting to the 2023 contract. Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, February 18, 2025

Where did the 2026 race stand?
Simmons won the Democratic primary for Tarrant County Judge on March 3, 2026, with 105,487 votes, or 61.35%, according to the county’s official cumulative results. Tarrant County Elections Administration, 2026 cumulative results The Dallas Express reported that Simmons and O’Hare were set to face each other in the November 3, 2026 general election. As of October 3, 2026, that election was still upcoming; no outcome should be inferred from the campaign dispute.
