Nintendo has scheduled The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, while its new Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo are due sometime in 2027. Nintendo has not publicly explained the gap. The figures are announced to unlock special masks with a retro graphical style, but the announcement does not say that they are required to access the remake or its other content.
Why are the Ocarina of Time remake amiibo coming out after the game?
Nintendo has not given a public reason for the schedule. Its September 8, 2026 announcement sets the remake’s release for November 5, 2026 and says the two new amiibo will launch in 2027, without explaining why the figures follow the game. That establishes what Nintendo has announced, not whether the company has an internal rationale; production, shipping, or marketing explanations would be speculation.

The official amiibo lineup also lists both figures for 2027. It does not give a specific day or month, retailer list, or preorder date. No more precise figure release date can be confirmed from those listings.

What do the Ocarina of Time remake amiibo unlock?
Nintendo says the Young Link and Young Zelda figures “can be used to unlock special in-game masks that evoke a retro graphical style.” The announcement describes the pair collectively; it does not identify a different mask or function for each figure, or specify further conditions for unlocking the masks.

Because the game is scheduled for November 2026 and the figures for 2027, the announced amiibo unlock is not available through these new figures at the game’s launch. Nintendo has not said whether the masks can be obtained another way before the figures arrive.
Does the existing Ocarina of Time Link amiibo work with the remake?
Nintendo already lists a Link (Ocarina of Time) amiibo, with a December 2, 2016 release date on its product page. But the existence of that figure does not establish that it works with the remake. Nintendo warns that amiibo compatibility and functionality vary by game, and the cited remake announcement does not confirm compatibility for this older Link figure.

Other Ocarina of Time products announced alongside the remake
Nintendo also announced a first print run of the physical game edition with textured foil cover art, available while supplies last, as well as a playable ocarina and an electric ocarina from HORI that can play notes or whole songs at a button press. These are separate product announcements; Nintendo has not connected them to the timing of the Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo.
