But as of October 3, 2026, Samsung has not announced the phone or confirmed its specifications, price, or release date. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is the only solid comparison point; the S27’s promise remains a set of rumors to evaluate, not a verdict.
What is confirmed—and what is not
Samsung announced the Galaxy S26 series on February 25, 2026. Its official announcement lists the S26 Ultra with a 6.9-inch display, a 200 MP main camera, 50 MP ultra-wide camera, 50 MP 5x telephoto camera, 10 MP 3x telephoto camera, and 5,000 mAh typical battery capacity. Samsung notes that regional availability and some specifications can vary.
Those are S26 Ultra specifications, not a preview of the S27. The S27 details currently circulating come from reports of leaks, not a Samsung specification sheet. No independent S27 test results or authoritative S27 pricing or release date have been established.
Why the reported S27 changes could matter
A possible 5,700 mAh battery
Tom’s Guide recently reported a leak suggesting the S27 range could get a price increase and that the S27 Ultra may have a 5,700 mAh battery. Samsung has not confirmed either claim. If that battery capacity makes it into the final phone, it would be a notable increase over the S26 Ultra’s published 5,000 mAh capacity. But capacity alone does not tell you how long a phone lasts: screen, processor, software, network conditions, and workload all affect endurance. Independent battery testing would be needed to show whether the change produces a meaningful improvement in everyday use.

A possible change to the 3x camera
A separate Tom’s Guide report says Samsung may drop the S26 Ultra’s 10 MP 3x telephoto camera from the S27 Ultra, with no replacement identified in that report. This is unconfirmed and does not establish the final camera array.
The 3x camera matters because it gives the S26 Ultra a dedicated option between its main camera and 5x telephoto. Removing it could mean a trade-off for portraits and subjects at intermediate distances, even if Samsung improves other camera hardware or image processing. Android Central has separately reported possible camera-processing changes, but those claims also remain unconfirmed; better processing cannot be assumed to compensate for a missing focal length without real-world comparisons.

How to judge whether it is actually a better phone
A larger battery or a headline camera change would not, by itself, make the S27 Ultra Samsung’s best phone in years. A fair comparison with the S26 Ultra needs answers across several areas:
- Battery: Is the reported capacity confirmed, and how does independently measured endurance compare under the same test conditions?
- Zoom and image quality: What cameras does the final phone include, especially across the 3x-to-5x range? Do photos and video improve in varied lighting, not just in promotional examples?
- Performance: Does it run demanding tasks faster, and can it sustain performance without excessive heat?
- Display and design: Are there changes that improve the experience in daily use, rather than just a specification-sheet difference?
- Software and AI: Are the support period and Galaxy AI features genuinely useful, and are they available in the reader’s region and language?
- Price and value: If the reported price increase happens, do the confirmed improvements justify it?
Until Samsung announces the S27 Ultra and reviewers can test retail hardware, these questions remain open. In particular, leaked battery capacity is not a substitute for endurance results, and a rumored camera-processing change is not proof of better pictures.

Why “could be” is the right verdict for now
The S27 Ultra has the ingredients of an intriguing upgrade on paper: a reported battery-capacity increase and rumored camera changes that could alter how it shoots. It also carries possible trade-offs, including the reported loss of a dedicated 3x telephoto lens, and the reported price increase could affect its value. Every one of those S27 points remains unconfirmed.
The S26 Ultra provides a clear official benchmark—two telephoto cameras and a 5,000 mAh typical battery—but no S27 specification should be inferred from it. Until Samsung confirms the hardware and independent testing establishes how it performs, calling the S27 Ultra Samsung’s best phone in years would be premature.
