In an October 1, 2026 update, the company explained why it paused the queue, asked customers with missing confirmations to contact support, and announced a new 24-hour order window for December 9, 2026.
What Wizards says caused the sale problems
Wizards said Secret Lair’s processing partner led an investigation and found that an external service disruption early in the sale affected systems supporting the launch. The announcement does not identify the service or provide an independent technical report, so the explanation is Wizards’ account of the investigation rather than an independently corroborated technical finding.

The company distinguished the disruption from a straightforward sellout caused only by unexpectedly high demand. Matthew Hodgins, the author of the update, wrote, “A sale isn’t a success just because inventory hits zero.”

Why the queue was paused—and what went wrong afterward
Hodgins said he paused the queue as backend systems became strained so customers would not keep reaching a checkout that could not process orders. At the time, inventory reports suggested that enough stock remained to fulfill a significant number of people waiting. Once the backlog was processed, however, it proved much larger than expected, and inventory settled at a level much closer to sold out than the initial estimates had indicated.
#1 Best Overall
- Includes a mix of AT LEAST 25 Rares/Uncommons which is half of the cards.
- Absolutely NO... Basic lands, Foreign, or silver/gold bordered cards.
- Some may contain Foils or Mythics but not all.
- Sets can range from Beta to the current Magic the Gathering set.
- Mint/Excellent condition only.
According to Wizards, thousands of customers waited roughly an extra hour and a half without useful information, while only a few obtained the remaining stock when the sale resumed. Customers reported a queue that did not move, checkout errors, missing confirmation emails, and hours of uncertainty over whether an order had gone through. The update does not give a precise customer count or a more exact duration.
What to do if you think you ordered but have no confirmation
Wizards said confirmation emails should have been sent after several days of manual review. If you believe you completed an order but still have no confirmation, contact Wizards Customer Support to verify its status. The announcement asks affected customers to seek confirmation rather than assume that an order was completed.

How to order the set in the new window
Wizards announced a single 24-hour order period on December 9, 2026. It said every customer who places an order during that window will have that order fulfilled, so the window is not described as a race for a limited number of units. Orders from this sale are estimated to begin shipping in the second half of 2027; Wizards said it would share more detail closer to the sale.
