Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf a video looks clear in your Samsung phone’s Gallery but blurry or pixelated after you text it, the sharing method is the most likely cause—not the fact that it was recorded on a Samsung. MMS messages are compressed by carriers, while Google Messages offers an RCS option for sending media at original quality. If the Gallery copy is blurry too, check the camera’s lighting, focus distance, and lens instead.
First, find out whether the video is blurry before or after sending
- Open the original video in Gallery and check it at a normal viewing size.
- Compare it with the copy the recipient received. If the original is clear and the received copy is not, focus on the messaging route or its quality settings. If both are blurry, troubleshoot the recording conditions first.
This check matters because changing camera settings will not restore detail lost during sharing, and changing messaging settings will not fix a blurry original.

If the video degrades when you send it
Check whether the message used MMS or RCS
MMS can reduce media quality: Google says carriers compress MMS messages, which can affect image quality. RCS supports sharing higher-resolution media, but it must be available and active for the people and services in the conversation. A Samsung phone on its own does not confirm that a chat is using RCS.

In a dated 2024 announcement, Samsung described RCS as requiring all chat members to have it enabled; its stated conditions then included Google Messages on Android and iOS 18 or later on iPhone. Availability can depend on the carrier, device, and service, so check the conversation rather than assuming RCS is active. Samsung’s announcement describes those conditions as they stood at that time.

Choose original quality in Google Messages
- In Google Messages, start or open a conversation and attach the video.
- In the attachment preview, select HD+ Original quality rather than HD Optimized for chat. Google says HD+ Original quality sends media at full resolution. The selection is saved for future media, and you can change it when attaching a file.
- If the video still looks reduced, check Google Messages settings for Send photos faster and turn it off. Samsung says this setting can be disabled for higher-resolution sharing.
These controls apply to Google Messages, and the actual quality can still vary. Google’s instructions for sending photos, videos, or voice messages in Google Messages explain its media-quality options; Samsung also notes that quality may vary in its RCS announcement.
When texting is not preserving the file
If a large video still arrives in reduced quality, use a file-transfer or cloud-link method that lets the recipient download the original file. Check that the recipient downloads the original rather than a preview or optimized copy. Because limits and handling vary by service and carrier, verify the received file’s resolution and size when exact preservation matters; no one method is guaranteed to preserve every video in every situation.

If the Gallery original is blurry too
Improve the recording conditions
- Lighting: Try recording in brighter, more even light. Dim or difficult conditions can affect capture quality.
- Focus distance: If the subject is very close, move back slightly and check whether focus improves.
- Lens cleanliness: Gently clean the camera lenses with a soft, dry microfiber cloth.
- Lens covers and accessories: Temporarily test without a lens protector or cover if focus seems unreliable or the image has light distortion.
Samsung lists lighting, shooting distance, environment, camera features, and accessories among possible causes of poor results. Its camera troubleshooting guidance recommends cleaning lenses with a soft, dry microfiber cloth and checking whether a lens protector or cover affects focus or distorts light. Camera behavior and menus vary by Galaxy model.
What to check before blaming the phone
- Whether the original in Gallery is clear.
- Whether the conversation actually used RCS or fell back to MMS.
- Whether Google Messages is set to HD+ Original quality for the attachment.
- Whether lighting, close focus, lens dirt, or a lens cover affected the original recording.
- Whether the recipient received and downloaded the original file, rather than a compressed or optimized version.
The available settings and behavior depend on the Galaxy model, Android and One UI versions, country, carrier, messaging app, and recipient’s device and service. Without those details, there is no single guaranteed menu path or device-specific diagnosis.
