Rockstar’s reported Coca-Cola comparison is about the commercial value of keeping unreleased game features and development details private—not evidence that Rockstar and Coca-Cola use the same security systems. Reporting on a tribunal filing also describes a confidential “online 32 player format,” but that does not confirm GTA 6 Online will launch with 32-player lobbies.
What Rockstar’s Coca-Cola comparison means
In reporting on submissions to a tribunal, Game Developer reproduced Rockstar’s argument that protecting GTA VI’s gameplay and design is akin to Apple protecting the iPhone or Coca-Cola protecting its formula. The filing is quoted as saying: “Guarding the secrets of the unique gameplay and design [of GTA VI] are akin to Apple protecting the iPhone or Coke protecting its formula. Information about new game features or development must not become public before release date.” Game Developer’s account of the tribunal arguments presents this as a rationale for protecting commercially sensitive information before release.

The analogy concerns what secrecy is meant to protect: Coca-Cola’s beverage formula, on one side, and Rockstar’s unreleased game design and features on the other. It does not establish that the companies have equivalent security procedures, or reveal how effective either company’s controls are.

GTA BOOM’s September 2026 report on the tribunal submissions describes an “online 32 player format” as confidential. That wording is evidence that a 32-player format was discussed or tested; it is not confirmation of the final launch limit. GTA BOOM’s report explicitly cautions against treating the figure as a confirmed lobby size.

- This product contains a download code inside the box — no disc is included. Customer shipments will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load; game is playable starting November 19.

- Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
Rockstar’s official GTA VI page lists PlayStation 5 and official game information, but the reviewed material does not specify a GTA VI Online player count. Until Rockstar publishes one, 32 players should be described as a reported confidential format—not an announced launch specification.
How Coca-Cola’s formula secrecy is documented
Coca-Cola’s own history describes a long custody story for its formula. The company says Dr. John S. Pemberton invented Coca-Cola in Atlanta in 1886; Asa Candler bought the business and secret formula in 1892. In 1919, the formula was written down and placed in a New York bank vault as collateral for a loan. It returned to Atlanta in 1925, where it was placed in Trust Company Bank, and moved to the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta in 2011 after 86 years at the bank. The Coca-Cola Company’s history of the formula describes the exhibit and custody milestones; the company says the formula itself remains a mystery to most people. Its FAQ on where the formula is kept also discusses its location.

- Grand Theft Auto III: It all starts in Liberty City. With the revolutionary freedom to go anywhere and jack anyone, Grand Theft Auto III puts the center of the criminal underworld at your fingertips, if you have enough guts to take it.
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City: Welcome to the 1980s. From the decade of big hair and pastel suits comes the story of one man's rise to the top of the criminal pile.
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas: Five years ago, Carl 'CJ' Johnson escaped the haze of Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs, and corruption.
The public display therefore documents the formula’s history and custody, rather than making the recipe public. The available accounts do not provide a technical comparison between Coca-Cola’s current security controls and Rockstar’s.

Take-Two Interactive’s SEC filing says an unauthorized third party accessed confidential information on Rockstar’s systems in September 2022, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto. Take-Two’s SEC filing confirms that incident. It illustrates that confidential development material can be exposed, but it does not establish the current security arrangements at Rockstar or connect the incident to the reported tribunal discussion of the 32-player format.

What the comparison does—and does not—tell players
- It does: show how Rockstar reportedly framed the value of keeping unreleased features and design information private in a tribunal filing.
- It does: provide reporting that a 32-player online format was discussed or tested confidentially.
- It does not: confirm 32-player GTA VI Online lobbies at launch.
- It does not: prove Rockstar and Coca-Cola use the same security systems or that one company’s controls are as effective as the other’s.
