Red Dead Redemption 2 runs on PS5 as the PS4 game, not as a native PS5 edition with a documented 60 FPS mode. PlayStation lists it as a PS4 title that is PS4 Pro Enhanced and playable on PS5. A third-party compatibility tracker reports a locked 30 FPS on PS5, matching its PS4 Pro entry. There is no documented in-game setting that unlocks 60 FPS.
Why RDR2 remains at 30 FPS on PS5
PS5 backward compatibility lets the console run the existing PS4 version; it does not automatically remove that game’s frame-rate behavior. Rockstar announced that the PS4 version would be playable on PS5 through backward compatibility, rather than announcing a native PS5 upgrade. PlayStation’s listing likewise identifies the game as the PS4 version, marked PS4 Pro Enhanced and playable on PS5.

A third-party backward-compatibility tracker lists RDR2 at a locked 30 FPS on PS5 and gives the same 30 FPS figure for PS4 Pro. That entry was last updated January 4, 2021, so treat it as an attributed technical record, not a new Rockstar test or guarantee about every possible setup. The tracker entry does not establish why Rockstar set or retained the cap.

Claims that the cap was imposed because of CPU limits, a cinematic preference, or a particular design trade-off are not established by these sources.

Can you get 60 FPS with a setting or system update?
The cited sources do not document a player-accessible RDR2 option that unlocks 60 FPS. Sony says Game Boost can benefit selected PS4 games, but its wording is explicitly limited: “Select PS4 games will benefit from the PS5 console’s Game Boost, which may make PS4 games run with a higher or smoother frame rate.” That is not a promise that every PS4 game, including RDR2, will run faster. Sony’s backward-compatibility guidance describes the feature generally; the tracker’s RDR2 entry reports 30 FPS.
Keeping PS5 system software current is sensible, but the sources here do not identify an update that changes RDR2’s frame-rate behavior. Nor do they establish that TV motion processing increases the game’s actual rendered frame rate. Display processing may alter how motion looks, but it is not a documented game-side 60 FPS solution.

What PS5 Pro players can change
PS5 Pro includes a system option called Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games. Sony describes it as an image-quality feature, not an RDR2 performance mode, and does not claim that it changes this game’s frame rate. To find it, use this path:
- Open Settings.
- Select Screen and Video, then Video Output.
- Select Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games and switch it on or off.
Sony says the option requires a 1440p or 2160p display at 60 Hz and is available only on consoles in the CFI-7000 model group. If it causes unexpected gameplay behavior, Sony advises turning it off. Sony’s PS5 Pro instructions cover the requirements and setting.

Which version and outcome to expect

If your goal is a higher actual frame rate, the cited material offers no supported setting to achieve it. If your goal is image clarity on PS5 Pro, the enhancement option is the relevant system-level setting, but it should not be confused with a performance mode.
