Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsQuordle failures usually fall into three different categories: the page is blank or stuck, the board has loaded but ignores your keyboard, or the game receives your entry and rejects the word. Identify which behavior you see before changing settings. Reloading, restoring focus, resetting zoom, trying a private window, and comparing another browser are the safest first tests. Deleting cookies or site data should be a last resort when a streak or unfinished game matters.
Also confirm which Quordle site you opened. Quordle-branded games do not necessarily share the same word list, storage method, or support process. The checks below use the detailed guidance published for quordle.uk and identify where its rules should not be generalized to the official Merriam-Webster version.

Start by identifying the exact failure
Look at what happens after you open the game and press Enter. A page that never renders is a loading or script problem. A rendered board that does nothing when you type points to focus, keyboard, or browser behavior. A visible “invalid word” message means the game did process the guess; the likely issue is spelling, word length, or that site’s accepted-word rules. As the quordle.uk troubleshooting guide puts it, “That is not a loading problem” when the game explicitly rejects a word (quordle.uk troubleshooting guide).
| What you see | What it usually indicates | First low-risk test | Could affect saved progress? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blank, white, spinning, or permanently stuck page | The page, JavaScript, an extension, cache, or connection may not have completed loading. | Reload once, wait briefly, then try another browser or a private window. | No, unless you later clear site data. |
| Board is visible but typing produces no letters | The game may not have focus, or the browser/device is not delivering keyboard input. | Click or tap inside the board and type one letter; on a phone, use the on-screen keyboard. | No. |
| A complete guess is marked invalid | The site received the entry but does not accept that spelling, length, or word for the current mode. | Check the exact site’s word guidance and count the letters. | No. |
| Board or keyboard is cut off | Browser zoom or responsive layout is interfering with the page. | Reset zoom to the browser default and reload. | No. |
| Streak or unfinished puzzle appears missing | You may be using a different browser/device or have removed local site data. | Return to the original browser and check whether its saved data is still present. | Changing storage settings can remove it. |
Confirm which Quordle version you are playing
Before troubleshooting a word, copy the address from the browser bar. The quordle.uk guides describe that site’s main game and its own accepted-word list; they do not define the list used by every Quordle-branded page. The Quordle page at dev.quordle.com identifies itself as Quordle and is dated October 8, 2026, but that page does not establish the exact word list, local-storage behavior, or support workflow for another edition.

Why the distinction matters
- A five-letter entry accepted in one mode can be rejected in another if the word pool differs.
- Progress that is stored in one browser may not appear after switching to another site, browser profile, device, or private-browsing session.
- Instructions for contacting support are site-specific. Use the support route belonging to the address in your browser, not a generic Quordle contact page.
If you are unsure, open the site’s help or rules link from the game itself and read the wording for that mode. Do not assume that a result on quordle.uk proves what the official Merriam-Webster version will accept.
When Quordle shows a blank or stuck screen
Work from reversible checks toward more disruptive ones. The following sequence covers the causes listed by the quordle.uk guide and the general browser diagnostics recommended by Mozilla and Chrome.
1. Reload and allow a short load time
Use the browser’s reload button once. A slow connection can leave a game appearing idle while scripts and game assets are still arriving. Avoid repeatedly refreshing in quick succession; one clean reload gives you a clearer result. If other websites also fail to open, troubleshoot the connection or device before changing Quordle settings.
2. Compare the same address in a private window
Open a private or incognito window, enter the exact game URL, and try a new puzzle or the same page. This is a diagnostic comparison, not a permanent workaround. Private windows commonly start with a cleaner session and can reveal whether ordinary-session extensions, cookies, or cached files are involved. They may not preserve local game state after the window closes, so do not use one as the only place to play a streak you need to retain.
3. Try another browser
Open the same address in a second browser on the same device. If the page works there, the original browser becomes the main suspect. Compare its extensions, privacy controls, script-blocking settings, and stored cache rather than immediately deleting everything. Mozilla’s guidance for pages that look wrong or render differently describes this kind of browser comparison (Mozilla Support).

4. Check JavaScript and blocking extensions
Quordle is an interactive web game, so blocked JavaScript can prevent the board from being created or updated. Confirm that JavaScript is allowed for the site. Temporarily pause a content blocker, script blocker, or strict privacy extension for that game page, then reload. If the page starts working, re-enable extensions one at a time to identify the conflict and allow the site only if you are comfortable with that setting. The quordle.uk guide lists blocked JavaScript and script-blocking extensions as possible causes; these are tests, not proof of the cause on your device (quordle.uk troubleshooting guide).
5. Reset zoom and close unnecessary tabs
Return the browser zoom to its default value. Excessive zoom can hide controls or make a responsive game appear incomplete. Close resource-heavy tabs, then reload Quordle. This is particularly useful when the page loads partially, the board is clipped, or the on-screen keyboard is missing.

If the page fails in multiple browsers on the same device, connect through another trusted network and open the same URL. A different result points toward the original connection, filtering, or DNS path; an identical result suggests the browser-independent side of the problem. Do not treat this comparison as confirmation of an outage. The available guidance does not establish a live outage status for any Quordle site.
When the keyboard is not responding
A visible board with no letters appearing is different from a blank page. Start with focus, then isolate the input device.
Give the game focus
- Click or tap inside the Quordle board, an empty row, or the on-screen keyboard.
- Type a single letter and confirm that it appears before entering a complete guess.
- If you are on a phone or tablet, open the device’s on-screen keyboard and use it instead of a paired physical keyboard.
- If one letter still does not appear, reload the page and repeat the focus test.
Some browser games ignore keystrokes until their game area has focus. Clicking the page background, an address bar, or another tab will not give the puzzle input focus.

Compare input in another browser
Use the same device and URL in a second browser. If typing works there, inspect the first browser for an extension intercepting keystrokes, an unusual privacy setting, or a stale page state. If neither browser accepts input, test the device’s on-screen keyboard or another device. These comparisons narrow the problem without changing saved game data.

If letters appear but pressing Enter produces a message, the keyboard is working. Move to the invalid-guess checks below instead of repeatedly reloading the page.
When Quordle says your word is invalid
An invalid-word message confirms that the game received your guess. Check the word itself and the rules for the exact site and mode.
Check spelling and length
- Read the letters on the board from left to right and correct any typing error.
- Count the characters. The quordle.uk main-game guidance says accepted guesses must be five letters.
- Check whether you accidentally entered a space, punctuation mark, or an extra character.
- Try a plainly spelled word that you know appears in the site’s accepted list, if the site’s rules provide one.
Use the correct word list
The quordle.uk word guide says its current list determines which five-letter guesses are accepted and warns that some modes use different word pools (Quordle.uk valid-word guidance). That is a site-specific example. It does not establish the accepted-word list for the official Merriam-Webster version or any other Quordle-branded game. If a familiar dictionary word is rejected, open the rules for the page you are actually playing and check whether that mode has a narrower list.
Do not diagnose a valid rejection as a loading fault
Reloading cannot make a word enter a different dictionary. Once the game displays an explicit invalid-word response, focus on spelling, character count, mode, and the site’s own accepted-word guidance.

When the board is cut off or the keyboard row is missing
Layout problems are often caused by zoom or a browser window that is too constrained rather than by an invalid puzzle.
- Reset the browser zoom to its default setting.
- Maximize the browser window or rotate a mobile device once to test the responsive layout.
- Close overlays, translation bars, or other browser panels that reduce the usable page area.
- Reload after changing the layout so the game can recalculate its dimensions.
- If the board remains clipped, compare the same URL in another browser or a private window.
The quordle.uk troubleshooting guide specifically recommends resetting zoom for board and keyboard display issues (quordle.uk troubleshooting guide). Do not install a separate utility or change display drivers for a problem that disappears at the default zoom.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Protecting a streak or unfinished puzzle
Before clearing anything, consider whether the game has saved progress that you need. The quordle.uk guide says that its statistics and progress are stored in the browser and warns that clearing cookies or site data may remove them. That storage behavior is specific to quordle.uk; it should not be assumed for every Quordle version.
Low-risk checks first
- Return to the original browser and normal (not private) window where you started the puzzle.
- Confirm that you are using the same device, browser profile, and game address.
- Check whether you recently signed out, switched profiles, or opened a private window.
- Try a simple reload before changing storage settings.
If a streak vanished after changing browsers or devices, the original local data may still exist in the first browser. Do not promise recovery: whether it can be restored depends on that site’s implementation and what was changed.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Why clearing site data is a last resort
Deleting cookies, cached files, or all site storage can fix a corrupted session, but it can also remove locally stored statistics and an unfinished game. Make a note of the exact site and browser first. If you decide to clear data, use the browser’s controls for that single site rather than wiping all browsing data, and understand that the game may start with a new local state afterward.

A practical browser-and-network diagnostic sequence
Use this order when you want to isolate the cause without guessing:
- Record the symptom. Note whether the page is blank, the keyboard is ignored, the word is rejected, or the layout is clipped.
- Reload once. Wait briefly for a slow connection to finish.
- Check other websites. If they also fail, investigate the network or device first.
- Restore focus and zoom. Click inside the board and return zoom to default.
- Test a private window. Use the same URL, while remembering that private sessions may not preserve game state.
- Test another browser. A success there points toward settings or extensions in the original browser.
- Pause blockers temporarily. Test JavaScript and script-blocking extensions one at a time.
- Test another trusted network or device. This separates local conditions from a problem that follows the site.
- Only then consider site-data changes. Weigh the possibility of losing local progress before clearing storage.
Chrome’s support instructions for games that do not play recommend comparable checks for browser state and site behavior (Google Chrome Help). Mozilla provides parallel guidance for pages that render incorrectly (Mozilla Support).
How to interpret comparison results
| Test result | Most useful interpretation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Works in a private window, not in the normal window | An extension, cookie, cached resource, or privacy setting in the normal session may be involved. | Re-enable extensions individually and inspect site-specific settings. |
| Works in another browser on the same device | The first browser is the likely area to investigate. | Check JavaScript permissions, blockers, zoom, and cache there. |
| Fails in every browser on one device | The device, connection, or site path may be involved. | Try another trusted network and device. |
| Works on another network | The original network, filtering, or DNS path may be preventing required resources. | Check network restrictions or contact the network administrator. |
| Fails across browsers, devices, and networks | The problem may be on the site’s side, although these tests do not prove an outage. | Report the details to the site’s support channel. |
A comparison narrows where to look; it is not a guarantee about the underlying cause. For example, a temporary timing issue can disappear before you repeat the test, and a private window can behave differently from a normal session by design.

When to contact support
If the game still fails after the browser, focus, extension, network, and device checks, contact the support channel for the exact site shown in your address bar. For quordle.uk, the Contact Us page accepts game issue reports.
Include information that helps reproduce the problem
- The complete game URL or site name.
- Your device type and operating system.
- Browser name and version.
- The visible symptom: blank page, stuck loading, ignored keyboard, invalid-word message, or missing layout.
- Whether the same address works in another browser, private window, device, or network.
- Approximately when the problem began and whether it is still happening.
- An optional screenshot that shows the error without exposing private information.
Do not send passwords, payment details, or unrelated personal data. A clear description of the exact test that failed is more useful than saying only that “Quordle is broken.”
Quick Recap
Quick decision checklist
- Blank or spinning page: reload, check other sites, try private mode and another browser, then verify JavaScript and blockers.
- Keyboard does nothing: click inside the game, use the on-screen keyboard on mobile, reload, and compare another browser.

- Board is clipped: reset zoom, adjust the window, and reload.
- Progress disappeared: return to the original browser and avoid clearing site data until you understand the storage risk.
- Every test fails: record the comparisons and report them to the support channel for that specific site.
