Our page check assigns up to four points to signals that suggest a page is a rental listing, but the score does not determine whether automation proceeds. The decision uses a simpler rule: a detected price is required, along with either an address or a contact option. The score helps explain a refusal; it is not a probability or an acceptance threshold.
What the score measures—and what it does not
The check described by Daniel Pertu looks for three signals and weights them differently: price is worth two points, an address is worth one, and a contact affordance is worth one. Together they produce a diagnostic score from zero to four. Pertu’s explanation is that “The number is diagnostics, not a decision.” The score indicates which signals the checker found; it does not say how likely a page is to be a listing.

| Detected signal | Score contribution | Role in the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Price | 2 points | Required |
| Address | 1 point | Either this or contact must be detected |
| Contact option | 1 point | Either this or address must be detected |
The weights express the author’s design choices, not an externally validated measure. In particular, a score of three is not a general confidence rating, and the checker does not accept a page merely because its total reaches a cutoff. Daniel Pertu’s article describes the implementation and its rationale.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe actual acceptance rule
A page qualifies only when the checker detects a price and at least one of the other two signals. In logical form: priceDetected && (addressDetected || contactDetected). Address and contact corroborate a price; neither can replace it.

- HOME INSPECTOR TOOL KIT includes a Digital Moisture Meter, Non-Contact Voltage Tester Pen, and GFCI Tester
- DETECTS COMMON WIRING PROBLEMS in standard and GFCI receptacles (Cat. No. RT210)
- CONFIRMS OPERATION of GFCI outlets
- NON-CONTACT VOLTAGE TESTER PEN (Cat. No. NCVT1P) provides non-contact detection of voltage 50 to 1000V
- TRUSTED SAFE with a safety rating of CAT IV 1000V for expanded operation and protection
- Price plus address: qualifies, even if no contact option is detected.
- Price plus contact: qualifies, even if no address is detected.
- Address plus contact, but no price: does not qualify.
- Price alone: does not qualify.
This distinction matters because the signals are not interchangeable. An agency page might show an address and a way to get in touch without describing a priced rental. Conversely, a sparse but genuine listing might display rent and a contact button while the checker fails to identify a complete address. A single score threshold could accept the first case or reject the second, depending on where it was set.
Why price is the required signal
The price detector looks for patterns that include currency symbols, currency words, and rent-related terms across several languages. That makes price the decisive signal in this rule, while address and contact provide supporting context. The approach is a practical page-shape test, not proof that a detected page is a legitimate, available, or accurately described rental.

- ACCURATE CIRCUIT BREAKER IDENTIFICATION: Quickly locate the correct breaker with precision using the transmitter and receiver of the circuit breaker finder, ensuring efficient electrical troubleshooting
- CLEAR INDICATIONS: The Receiver provides visual and audible cues when the correct breaker is found, ensuring a hassle-free locating process on 90-120V AC circuits
- BUILT-IN GFCI TESTER: The Transmitter includes a GFCI outlet tester, enabling you to inspect wiring conditions and test GFCI devices for added safety
- LIGHT SOCKET AND GROUNDING ADAPTERS: Easily find the correct circuit for a lighting fixture with the light socket adapter, and use the included 3-prong to 2-prong grounding adapter for added convenience
- ALLIGATOR CLIP ADAPTER: Enables testing on bare wires, providing versatile usage options
Address markers include examples from Dutch, German, Spanish, French, and British formats. One deliberately broad marker is a five-digit postcode pattern, which can match numbers that are not postcodes. Pertu’s rationale is that address is only corroborating evidence here, rather than proof by itself. That tolerance is specific to this rule; it should not be treated as a safe address-validation method for other systems.

Why refusals are checked in a deliberate order
The listing-shape test comes last in a seven-step sequence. The order is intended to report a more consequential or informative problem before a generic conclusion that the page does not look like a listing.

- Check that the page is on an allowed domain.
- Check for a payment page.
- Check for an anti-bot wall.
- Check whether the session has expired.
- Check whether a new account is required.
- Check whether a paid plan is required.
- Apply the rental-listing shape rule.
Each refusal condition maps to a distinct recorded status. For example, an expired session should be reported as a session problem, not mistaken for evidence that the underlying page is not a listing. The score is included in a listing-shape refusal’s detail so a person can see which signals were detected, even though it does not alter the outcome.
Why payment detection avoids broad keywords
A generic search for words associated with payment can misclassify ordinary content. Pertu points to the collision between Dutch payment method iDEAL and Idealista, a Spanish property portal: a broad keyword check could mistake the portal’s name for a payment page. The described check instead looks for payment-provider script hosts and card-field attributes, which are more specific indicators of a payment interface.

The article also describes a skipListingCheck escape hatch for a contact form reached after the listing page has already passed the shape check. It bypasses that later listing check for the form, while the earlier guards still apply. This keeps a legitimate next step from being rejected just because the form itself no longer resembles a listing.

When this design is useful
Separating score from decision is useful when different signals have different meanings. A score can make a refusal easier to diagnose, while a direct rule makes it clear what must be true before automation proceeds. As Pertu puts it, “Keep the score and the decision apart. Scores are for explaining a refusal to a human later. Decisions want a rule you can say out loud.” That is the author’s design advice, not an external standard or a claim that this particular detector has been independently validated.
