Why “New” Job Listings Can Be Old: How to Read HireSeeker’s Vacancy Dates

A job listing marked “new” may be newly published by an employer, newly discovered by a feed, or simply checked again recently. Those are different events. HireSeeker says it gathers IT vacancies from multiple sources and that collection frequency varies by source; its reported cadence is not an independent measure of how quickly every vacancy appears. To judge whether a role is worth pursuing, identify which date you are seeing and verify the listing at its original source.

What does “new” mean on a job board?

There are three useful clocks for a vacancy. A date on a feed is meaningful only when you know which one it represents.

Timestamp What it tells you What it does not establish
Source publication time When the listing, or a particular version of it, became public—if the source provides a reliable timestamp. When an aggregator found it, or whether applications are still being accepted.
First observation time When a collector or aggregator first encountered the record. When the employer opened the role. A listing first seen today may have been posted earlier.
Last successful check or last seen When the source was last checked or the listing was last observed in a feed. That the role changed, or that the employer still wants applications.

A refresh or repeat sighting can be an observation event, not a newly opened vacancy. If a service displays a recent “first seen” date, it should not be read as the employer’s publication date unless it explicitly says that is what the date means.

Why do job boards say a posting is new when it is not?

Different services may use different timestamps for labels such as “new” or “recent.” An aggregator can discover an older source listing later, while a repeated check can confirm that a record remains visible without changing its original publication date. In SeekerScore’s sample of 49,997 active postings with parseable employer dates, 10.3% were less than a week old by the employer-supplied date, compared with 23.2% by index first-seen date. The analysis, published August 16, 2026, used a 20% systematic sample of active postings; it illustrates how the clock changes the “new” share, not a universal job-board rate or a measurement of ingestion delay. Read SeekerScore’s analysis.

For the same 49,997 records, SeekerScore reported median ages of 28 days by employer-supplied posting date and 26 days by index first-seen date. Those medians do not measure time-to-fill or prove that older postings are inactive.

How fresh are HireSeeker’s listings?

HireSeeker describes its service as a combined feed of IT vacancies from sources including hh.ru, Telegram channels, company career sites, Habr Career, and GetMatch. It says users can search without registration and configure criteria to receive a daily digest link through Telegram. The company says hh.ru vacancies may be added within an hour, while other sources follow their own schedules. This is HireSeeker’s description of its cadence, not an independently benchmarked latency guarantee for every source or listing. See HireSeeker’s description.

HireSeeker also says connected sources change and does not promise to collect every vacancy. Its listing aggregation can reduce the need to check sources separately, but a combined-feed entry does not by itself establish that the employer is still hiring or verify the employer’s quality. The company advises following the original-posting link and checking conflicting details with the recruiter.

The available description does not establish that every HireSeeker record displays publication time, first-seen time, and last-check time as separate fields. Nor does it provide independently measured latency distributions by source. Treat any date shown according to its actual label; do not assume a complete event-time history is available.

How can I tell if a job posting is still real?

  1. Open the original posting. Use the source link in the feed rather than relying only on an aggregated summary.
  2. Check the employer’s page. Look for the role on the employer’s career site or the source named in the listing, and note the date and status shown there.
  3. Compare the details. Check title, location, responsibilities, and application route for changes or inconsistencies between the feed and source.
  4. Ask the recruiter if details conflict. HireSeeker specifically recommends resolving conflicting information with the recruiter.
  5. Interpret “active” cautiously. In SeekerScore’s 2026 corpus analysis, the publisher explains: “An ‘active’ flag generally means no evidence of removal, not a fresh check.” A retained active label is not equivalent to recent confirmation from the employer. See SeekerScore’s 2026 analysis.

SeekerScore’s August 13, 2026 snapshot found 27.5% of 239,806 active postings had been re-seen in their source feed during the preceding 24 hours. Its September 5, 2026 update reported a revised current check of 38.2% re-confirmed within 24 hours. These are dated measurements of SeekerScore’s own corpus, not general job-market rates or HireSeeker-specific freshness figures. The same August snapshot found 17,130 active postings on feeds with no active row re-seen for more than a week; because that measure uses the most recent re-seen row per source, a source-level fresh signal does not mean every record on the source is fresh.

SeekerScore also reported that 23.0% of all postings recorded in its corpus were inactive in its September 5, 2026 update. That is a corpus status figure, not a measured share of all market vacancies. The publisher cautions that automated URL checks can be rate-limited or refused rather than receiving a genuine not-found response, so URL-based deactivations should not be treated as a clean job-death rate.

How old is the average job posting when I see it?

The figures above are medians and proportions from SeekerScore’s defined samples, not an “average” age for all jobs a person encounters. They also do not reveal the age of any particular listing you see in HireSeeker. A posting date can be incomplete or reset, and a first-seen date may reflect delayed discovery rather than a recently opened role. Use the employer-supplied date and the feed’s observation or confirmation date as separate evidence when both are available.

What to compare when choosing a vacancy feed

A single freshness score can hide meaningful differences. Compare the underlying signals instead:

HireSeeker says it deduplicates listings and links users to source postings, but those features do not make an aggregator’s discovery date equivalent to an employer’s publication date. See the event-time explanation.
