League of Legends replays are not all gone. Starting with Patch 26.20 on October 6, 2026, Riot limited replay downloads to matches you personally played: you can still download and watch your own match in the League client, but you can no longer download another player’s replay, and third-party apps and sites lose replay-download access.
What changed in Patch 26.20?
Riot’s Patch 26.20 notes, published October 6, 2026, set the new boundary by whose match it is. Replay review of your own match remains available through the League client. Other players can no longer download your replay, and third-party apps and sites lose access to replay downloads.

Why can’t I download someone else’s replay?
Riot says the change is a security measure. The patch notes connect it to restrictions on third-party access to game memory and vulnerabilities that cheat developers and others had exploited to build unauthorized tools around League game data.

Can I still watch my own League replay?
Yes. Use the League client to download and watch a replay of a match you played. Riot expressly says Patch 26.20 does not affect that in-client personal replay review. The official notes do not provide a current, detailed click-by-click path, so use the replay controls available in your client rather than relying on older interface instructions.
What can you do if you need a recording?
A replay file and a video recording are different. The replay-download rule limits access to match replays; it does not establish that a particular recording or export control is available in every mode or patch. Riot’s 2017 announcement about replays and practice described an in-client tool for saving highlights as video files, but that is historical documentation, not confirmation of the current recording workflow. Check the controls in your current client before relying on a specific way to record or export a clip.

What if a third-party app stopped working?
Check the app developer’s current announcements for its status. Riot says it cannot promise that any particular application will remain functional. The transition period for currently approved tools is not a guarantee that an app’s replay-download feature will continue, and Riot’s cited guidance does not establish which named apps remain usable.

Do not treat 14 days as a current retention guarantee. Riot’s Patch 14.6 notes from March 2024 said that, after a temporary change, the system would return to storing replays for approximately 14 days. That was patch-specific guidance from 2024. Patch 26.20 does not state a current retention period or explain how to recover older replays.

Riot had also announced replay access through its API in Patch 25.23 in 2025. That earlier announcement should not be read as permission for third parties to keep downloading replays after the later Patch 26.20 change.
