First, check your LG monitor’s exact model number: a 34-inch screen does not necessarily have built-in speakers. If yours does, check its mute and volume settings, choose the monitor’s audio device in Windows, and inspect the connection. If it does not, you will need compatible external speakers or headphones to hear sound.
1. Check whether your exact LG model has speakers
Screen size alone does not tell you whether a monitor can play sound. Find the complete model number on the monitor’s label or in its settings, then look up its specifications or manual on LG Support. Check for built-in speakers and audio ports. LG notes that speaker availability and input ports vary by model, and its general guidance may not match every product.

If the manual does not list built-in speakers, audio will not come from the monitor itself. Check whether it has a Headphone Out port for compatible headphones, earphones, or external speakers; confirm the port and its function in the model-specific documentation.
2. Check the monitor’s volume and mute setting
If your model has built-in speakers, use its joystick or on-screen controls to make sure the volume is raised and the monitor is not muted. The controls and menu names vary by model, so refer to its manual if you cannot find the sound setting.

3. Check the cable and signal path
HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C can carry audio when both connected devices and the specific ports support it. A loose, damaged, or incompatible connection—or an adapter in the path—can leave you with video but no sound.
- Reseat the cable at both the computer and monitor, and check for visible damage.
- If possible, test a different compatible cable and connect the monitor directly to the computer, without an adapter or dock.
- Check the computer’s and monitor’s manuals to confirm that the chosen ports carry audio. For example, an HDMI-to-DVI conversion may carry video without audio.
4. Select the LG audio output in Windows
Open the sound control from the Windows taskbar and select the LG monitor or the display audio device associated with it. Windows may be sending sound to a different output, such as headphones or the computer’s speakers.

If the monitor does not appear as an output device, check the cable and ports first. Then check that the computer’s audio and graphics drivers are installed and current, following the instructions from the computer or graphics hardware manufacturer. If other Windows sounds play through the monitor, open the Windows volume mixer and check that the affected application is not muted or turned down. Some LG Smart Monitor models also offer sound self-diagnosis in Support settings; use the model manual to confirm whether that feature applies to yours.

6. Choose an external audio option or contact LG
For a monitor without speakers, use compatible powered computer speakers, headphones, or earphones. If you want to connect them to the monitor, first confirm that the exact model has a suitable audio output and that it supports sound from your selected input. Otherwise, connect audio equipment to the computer. Check the manuals before buying speakers, headphones, or a replacement cable.
If a model with built-in speakers remains silent after these checks, contact LG Support with the complete model number and details of your connection and Windows output selection.
