Looping a gaming VOD does not, by itself, prove that YouTube is still receiving a live encoder feed or that the live event remains active. Check the event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and confirm your encoder is still sending video using the correct stream key.
What “offline” means in this situation
YouTube treats the live broadcast and its later replay as separate states. A stream can end, after which a replay may be available on your channel; seeing that replay does not mean the original event is still live. YouTube’s encoder workflow involves sending a feed to YouTube and ending the event when the broadcast is over. The official guidance does not specify how every looping setup behaves, so a looped VOD alone cannot establish whether the event is active. YouTube’s encoder instructions and its explanation of live-stream replays describe these as distinct parts of the process.

Check the event and feed
- Open Live Control Room in YouTube Studio. Check whether the event is active or has ended. YouTube identifies Live Control Room as the place to manage a live stream and its settings. See YouTube’s encoder workflow.
- Confirm the encoder is sending the feed. Check that the encoder is still transmitting to the stream URL and using the configured stream key. The key is the information YouTube uses to accept the encoder feed; YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance explains stream-key management.
- Look for a replay separately. Check the channel’s Live tab and the Content area in YouTube Studio for an archive. A replay being available is not evidence that the event remains live.
- Check any local recording. If you made one, verify it independently. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup; it is useful if the online replay is unavailable or incomplete. YouTube’s archive guidance covers this recommendation.
What looping and DVR do—and do not—tell you
A playback loop describes what happens to the video source. Live status depends on whether the live event is active and YouTube is receiving the encoder feed. YouTube’s documentation does not diagnose a particular looping program or device as the cause of an offline status, so use Live Control Room and the encoder connection to identify which state has ended.

Why the replay may be missing or incomplete
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not rely on the online archive as the sole copy of a long broadcast. Keep a local recording when you need a backup. The 12-hour threshold concerns archive capture; it does not establish whether a live event is currently active. YouTube Help: Archive live streams.
