A Samsung Smart TV that “glitches” is usually showing one of three problems: the picture freezes, flickers or distorts; an app crashes, won’t open or runs slowly; or the TV loses Wi-Fi or struggles to stream. “Glitching” describes the symptom, not the cause, so the fix depends on which problem you have and where it appears. Most of these can be narrowed down in under half an hour using checks Samsung provides on the TV itself, before you consider service.
Start by pinning down the symptom
Before changing any setting, note exactly what you see and whether it happens on every source or only one. That single observation separates a TV fault from a problem with a cable, a connected device, a broadcast signal or your home network.

If the picture problem appears on every source, including the TV’s own apps, the TV is the more likely cause. If it appears on only one HDMI input or only on broadcast channels, the cable, connected device, provider or signal path is the more likely cause.
Picture freezing, flicker or distortion
Picture problems have the widest range of possible causes, so work through them in this order: the external path first, then the TV’s own diagnostics, then the firmware.

Check whether one input or device is involved
If the problem happens on one HDMI input, test a different source and a different cable. Samsung India suggests a simple isolation step: temporarily disconnect the set-top box and HDMI cable. If the flicker stops, the cable, the external device or the service provider is the likely cause. If the flicker continues with nothing connected, Samsung India notes that TV repair may be needed.
Samsung’s US support guidance also describes an HDMI cable test. On older menu layouts, the path is Support > Self Diagnosis > Signal Information > HDMI Cable Test. Newer models list an HDMI troubleshooting route under their support pages. Replace the cable only if the test reports a fault. A test result is a better reason to buy a new cable than a guess, and the replacement should be an HDMI cable suited to both the TV and the source device.
Run the Picture Test
The Picture Test displays a test image generated by the TV itself, so it helps separate a fault inside the TV from a problem in the signal coming into it. The menu location depends on the model year. Samsung’s US guidance lists a Device Care route for 2022 and later models and a Support > Self Diagnosis route for older models.

- If the test image flickers, the fault is likely inside the TV.
- If the test image looks normal, the problem is probably the cable, the connected device or the source, and the checks above apply.
Samsung’s picture troubleshooting guidance states: “If the picture is flickering in the picture test, visit the Support Center to request service.”
Update the firmware
For freezing, Samsung’s US guidance recommends installing the latest software. The update can take a few minutes, and video and audio settings may reset to their defaults afterward, so note any custom picture or sound settings first. You can update through the TV’s Support menu, or by downloading the update file for your exact model to a USB drive. Do not use a file meant for a different model.
Broadcast and antenna picture trouble
If the glitch appears only on antenna or cable channels, the signal reaching the tuner is the first suspect. Samsung UK’s screen-flickering guidance (updated 19 August 2025) says digital TV can flicker or freeze when the broadcast signal is weak. Its recommended steps are:

- Disconnect the antenna lead from the back of the TV, then reconnect it firmly.
- Open the signal information screen, where the feature is available, and check the reported signal strength.
- If reception stays poor, contact the broadcaster to ask about a signal check where that service is offered.
Samsung India’s guidance (updated 6 August 2025) gives example signal values that indicate weak reception, but it notes the signal information feature is not supported in every geographic area. Treat any numeric threshold as specific to the guidance that publishes it, not as a universal standard. Your own TV’s signal screen and your broadcaster’s advice are the reliable references.

If one app freezes, crashes or refuses to load, Samsung India’s app troubleshooting (dated 27 March 2026) recommends a soft reset and a software check before anything else:
- Hold the Power button on the remote until the TV restarts. Alternatively, unplug the TV from the wall, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Once the TV has started, check for a TV software update and install it if one is available.
- Open the affected app again. If only that app still fails while other apps work normally, the problem is most likely with that app rather than the TV’s hardware.

Wi-Fi and network trouble
Buffering, dropped connections and “no internet” messages are network problems first. Samsung’s US guidance suggests this sequence:
- Check whether other phones, computers or tablets on the same network are having the same trouble. If none of them can reach the internet, the fault is outside the TV, and Samsung directs you to your internet service provider.
- Run Network Status from the TV’s network settings to see whether the TV is connected and has internet access.
- Reset the TV’s network settings, then reconnect to your Wi-Fi network and enter the password again.
- Power-cycle your modem and router: switch them off, wait until they have fully restarted, then switch them back on.
- If the TV still fails while other devices work normally, the fault is more likely on the TV, and Samsung Support is the next step.
When to contact Samsung Support
Contact Samsung Support or an authorised service provider when the evidence points to the TV itself:

- Freezing or distortion continues after a firmware update.
- The cable, device and provider checks come back clean, yet the picture still flickers on every source.
- Network checks show a fault limited to the TV while other devices on the same network work normally.
Do not open the TV or attempt internal electrical repairs. These steps are manufacturer troubleshooting recommendations rather than a diagnosis of your particular set. Menu paths vary by model year, software version and region, so if a path listed here does not match your screen, use your TV’s model code to find the matching page in Samsung’s support site or the printed manual.
