A Galaxy Watch that loses charge quickly is usually reacting to several possible causes at once rather than one fault. Samsung’s official support pages point to display use, background apps, wireless connections, GPS, frequent notifications, health tracking, initial setup, app or software bugs, temperature extremes and charging problems. The practical approach is to work through them in order: start with anything that changed recently, trim the features that use the most power, and only then suspect the hardware.
Samsung’s pages are written for Galaxy Watch models in general. The title of your problem does not identify a watch generation, size, LTE or Bluetooth variant, or software version, so menu names and available options may differ on your watch. Treat the paths below as the general route rather than an exact menu map.

What usually drains a Galaxy Watch battery
- Display activity. A bright screen that stays on, Always On Display and wake-on-motion all keep the display working longer. Samsung’s support guidance lists display use as a primary factor in its battery troubleshooting for the US.
- Background apps. Apps that keep running or syncing when you are not using them can consume battery, according to Samsung Canada’s battery tips.
- Wireless connections. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and mobile data each draw power, and the watch works harder when a connection is weak or repeatedly re-established.
- GPS and location. Location tracking is power-intensive. Samsung’s Philippines support page covers network and power-saving guidance that addresses these settings.
- Notifications. Frequent alerts wake the screen and keep the radios active.
- Health tracking. Continuous or frequent heart-rate and stress measurements add processing and sensor time.
- Setup, installation and software bugs. New watches and recently installed apps can run extra processes, and Samsung identifies app bugs as a possible source of excessive battery use.
- Temperature, physical damage or charging problems. Extreme heat or cold, damage to the watch or charger, and incompatible chargers can all affect charging and runtime.
A new watch may drain faster for about a week
Samsung says that for roughly the first week or so, the watch learns your usage patterns, and that can affect battery performance while setup and app installation finish. This is approximate guidance, not a guarantee that every battery complaint resolves after seven days. If the drain continues well after that period, move to the fixes below.

Work through these fixes in order
- Check what changed recently. If the watch is new, let setup and app installation settle before judging the battery. If drain began after you installed or updated an app, update the app and the watch software, since app bugs can cause excessive battery use.
- Reduce display time. Dim the screen, shorten how long it stays on, and turn off Always On Display if you can accept a display that is dark until you wake it. Samsung also describes covering the screen with your palm to turn the display off when you are not using it.
- Trim apps and notifications. Close apps you are not using and disable notifications you do not need. If you want to clear accumulated watch data, back up anything you want to keep first.
- Reduce wireless and location use where practical. Turn off Wi-Fi when it is not needed. Change Bluetooth or mobile-network settings only if you can accept losing that connection; the watch disconnects from the phone when Bluetooth is off, and disabling connections can make some features unavailable.
- Adjust health and voice features. Set heart-rate and stress measurements to less frequent or manual measurement if that is acceptable. Disable GPS, voice wake-up, Raise to Talk or hearing mode when you do not use them. Available controls differ by model.
- Use a power mode for short periods. Power Saving reduces display, background and wireless functions and limits performance. Watch Only mode suits periods when you do not need smart functions. See the comparison below before switching.
- Check temperature, physical condition and the charger, then run diagnostics. The steps for these checks are in the sections that follow.
Power-saving options compared
The table shows what each option limits and what you give up. Samsung’s pages recommend these options but do not publish a measured runtime gain for any of them, so the table does not state a percentage of extra battery life.

Heat, physical damage and charging
Samsung states this directly: “Exposing your watch to very cold or very hot temperatures can shorten the watch’s battery life and could lead to damage.” Samsung does not publish a numeric operating temperature range in the pages reviewed, so avoid leaving the watch in a hot car or a freezing environment.
Inspect the watch and its charger for physical damage or liquid exposure. Samsung recommends approved accessories designed for the device and warns that a third-party charger may not charge properly. Check compatibility against your exact generation and size before buying a replacement. A new charger will not fix a battery that drains because of software or app behavior.

Run the battery diagnostic and know when to stop
If you have a Samsung phone paired with the watch, Samsung says you can use the Samsung Members app to run a watch battery diagnostic. If drain continues after the settings changes above, or if the watch or charger is damaged, contact Samsung support or service for a model-specific assessment. Settings changes alone will not resolve hardware damage.
