Work through the checks below in order. If a known-good, compatible setup still will not charge the phone, arrange Samsung support or service inspection.
First, identify what “not charging” means
There are several different symptoms:
- No charging indicator: power may not be reaching the phone, or the port, cable, adapter, or battery may have a fault.
- Charging only at a certain angle: the cable or port may be damaged or obstructed.
- Charging slowly: the phone may be using a low-power source, an unsupported accessory, fast charging may be disabled, or the device may be hot.
- Stops at a percentage: Battery protection may be enforcing a selected limit.
- Moisture warning: charging has been disabled as a safety measure until the port is dry.
Exact menus, supported charging modes, and accessory requirements vary by Galaxy model and software version.

1. Check the outlet, adapter, cable and connection
- Unplug and reconnect both ends of the cable firmly. Remove any case or accessory that prevents the plug from seating fully.
- Try a different wall outlet.
- Test with another charger and cable known to be compatible with your exact Galaxy model. Look for cuts, bent connectors, loose plugs, discoloration or heat damage.
- If the phone charges from a wall outlet but not a computer, the computer’s USB port may not provide enough power. Samsung notes that fast charging may not operate from a PC or standard USB device.
Do not assume that a charger is compatible merely because its connector fits. Wired and wireless charging support, power requirements and fast-charging modes differ among Galaxy models.
2. Inspect the charging port
- Turn the phone off.
- Use a bright light to look into the USB-C port. Pocket lint, dust or other debris can stop the contacts from meeting.
- Only remove debris that is clearly visible and can be cleared gently. Do not insert metal objects, sharp tools or liquids into the port.
If the port looks bent, loose, corroded or physically damaged, stop forcing the cable and seek professional service. Repeatedly pushing a plug into a blocked port can worsen the damage.

3. Respond to a moisture warning
Samsung support states: “If moisture is detected in the charging port, charging may stop to help protect the device from damage.” This can happen even with a water-resistant Galaxy phone.
- Disconnect the charger immediately.
- If practical, power the phone off.
- Leave the port to dry completely in a dry, ventilated place before reconnecting power.
- Do not keep plugging the cable in to test it while the port may still be wet.
If the warning remains after the port is fully dry, the port or detection system may need inspection.
4. Let an overheated phone cool
High device temperature can reduce charging speed or temporarily stop charging. Move the phone away from direct sun and other heat sources, stop demanding apps or games, and let it return to a normal temperature before trying again. Avoid covering a hot phone with bedding or placing it in a refrigerator or freezer.

5. Check settings when charging is slow or stops early
Fast charging
On supported models, open Settings > Battery (or the equivalent Battery menu) and look for Charging settings, Fast charging or Super fast charging. Labels and locations vary. Samsung’s guide notes that Galaxy S23 series and later combine Fast charging and Super fast charging in one setting in the relevant software.
Enable the mode only if your phone, adapter and cable support it. Changing a setting cannot make unsupported hardware charge faster.
Battery protection
If charging stops at a particular percentage, open the Battery charging or Battery protection settings and check whether a charging limit is enabled. The available modes and limits depend on the model and software version. A limit is intentional protection, not necessarily a charging failure.

6. Use diagnostics and restart
After the physical checks, restart the phone and test it again with the known-good compatible setup. On supported software, Samsung Members’ Phone diagnostics can check cable-charging condition. A diagnostic result can help identify whether the problem is the accessory or the phone, but it does not replace a service inspection for physical damage.

Contact Samsung support or visit an authorized service center if:
- the phone will not charge with more than one compatible charger and cable;
- the port is visibly damaged, loose or corroded;
- a moisture warning persists after complete drying;
- charging repeatedly starts and stops without a clear temperature or settings cause;
- the battery drains unusually quickly, swells, or the phone becomes dangerously hot.
Do not continue using a frayed cable, a damaged adapter or a swollen battery. Service availability and menu names vary by country, model and software version.

Choosing a replacement charger or cable
Replace an accessory only after testing identifies it as the likely cause. Match all of these details to the exact Galaxy model:

There is no single wattage or accessory that fits every Galaxy phone. Confirm model-specific requirements before buying.

Why does my Galaxy charge only when the cable is held a certain way?
That symptom commonly points to debris, a worn cable or a damaged charging port. Turn the phone off, inspect the port without metal tools or liquids, test another compatible cable, and seek service if the connection remains loose.
Will changing the fast-charging setting fix a phone that shows no charging at all?
No. Fast-charging settings affect speed or supported modes; they do not repair a failed outlet, cable, port, battery or charging circuit.
