YouTube’s Loop control repeats a video or playlist during playback; it does not restart or repeat an active live broadcast. If your podcast recording stops while the broadcast stays live, check the repeat or playlist behavior in the encoder or streaming software sending the feed. If the broadcast itself ends, investigate the encoder connection and stream start/stop settings.
First identify what “not looping” means
There are several different behaviors a viewer or creator might call looping. The fix depends on which one is happening:
- The recording stops, but the live broadcast remains active: check the media source or playlist repeat setting in your encoder or streaming software.
- The live broadcast ends: check whether the encoder stopped sending content, someone ended the stream in Live Control Room, or the auto-start/auto-stop settings do not match your workflow.
- Viewers cannot rewind or resume: check DVR and the stream’s duration.
- You expected an ended broadcast to start again or replay: check for an archive. An archive is a video, not a new live session.
YouTube documents repeat controls for videos and playlists watched on the platform, not a control that makes a live broadcast repeat. See YouTube’s instructions for repeating videos and playlists.
If the podcast recording stops but the stream stays live
The encoder or streaming software supplies the video and audio feed that YouTube receives. YouTube’s guidance explains how to send an encoder feed, but the exact repeat setting depends on the software you use. There is no YouTube Studio “loop live stream” switch to turn on.

- Open the encoder or streaming software that is sending the stream.
- Check the media source or playlist used for the podcast recording. Confirm the intended file is still available and the playlist contains the correct item.
- Find the source’s repeat, loop, or playlist behavior setting. Enable the behavior that returns playback to the beginning when the recording ends. The label and location vary by software.
- Preview the feed in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm that the picture and audio continue and that the recording returns to the beginning when it reaches its end.
- If the source reaches its end but does not restart, check its file path and playlist order, then inspect the encoder’s own playback status and logs if available.
YouTube recommends previewing before going live and monitoring the stream. Use the YouTube encoder streaming instructions for the platform-side setup; follow your encoder’s documentation for its specific repeat controls.
If the live broadcast ends
A live stream is a real-time broadcast. It does not automatically begin a new session just because its prerecorded source could repeat. YouTube documents auto-start and auto-stop as ways to start or stop streaming from the encoder, not as media-loop controls. Check the following:

- Whether auto-start and auto-stop are set for the workflow you intend.
- Whether the encoder is still connected and sending the stream to YouTube using the correct stream URL and key.
For the platform’s controls, see YouTube’s live stream settings guidance. If the encoder feed stops, review its connection and output status before restarting the broadcast.
If viewers cannot rewind or resume
DVR is the feature that lets viewers pause, rewind, and continue during an active live stream. It is separate from repeating the podcast recording. Check whether DVR is enabled in the stream settings.

For very long streams, DVR may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours, and viewers cannot seek to a point before the broadcast began. If you change the DVR setting while a stream is live, YouTube says the change applies only to viewers who start watching after the change. Details are in YouTube’s DVR instructions.
If you expected a replay after the broadcast ended
Look for the recording in YouTube Studio’s Live content and check its visibility. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. An available archive is a video on your channel, not a broadcast that automatically starts again. Viewers can use the platform’s video repeat control on the replay where supported.

- Decide whether the problem is the recording stopping, the broadcast ending, rewind failing, or an expected replay not appearing.
- If the broadcast is still live, inspect the encoder’s media source and repeat or playlist behavior.
- Compare what the encoder is sending with the Live Control Room preview, and monitor the stream’s audio and video.
- If the broadcast ended, check encoder connectivity, whether it stopped sending content, and the stream’s start/stop settings.
- If viewers cannot rewind, inspect DVR and consider the stream’s duration and the point from which they are trying to seek.
- If the event has ended, check Live content for an archive and its visibility; do not expect an archive to relaunch the live broadcast.
