Other possible causes include incorrect or expired card details, insufficient funds, a Google payment-profile verification request, or issuer restrictions on online or international transactions. The decline message alone does not reveal which cause applies.
First, check whether the failed charge is recurring
For automatic or recurring card payments in India, Google says an e-mandate must be set up. Google Pay Help defines an e-mandate as an agreement between card users and merchants that enables automatic recurring payments. It is established after successful OTP validation, and Google notes that not all banks support the process yet.

That means a card can work for other purchases but still be unsuitable for a recurring YouTube charge if its issuer does not support the required mandate. Support can vary by bank and card product, so a decline does not establish that all cards of a particular network or all cards from a given bank will fail.

Check the payment profile and saved card
- Open your Google payment profile and look for an alert or request to fix or verify account information.
- Check that the saved card number, expiry date and billing address are correct and match the issuer’s records.
- Confirm that the card has not expired and that sufficient funds are available.
- Complete any verification Google requests before trying the payment again.
Google lists these account and card issues among possible causes of a failed payment. Repeatedly retrying without resolving an alert or incorrect detail may not help.
Ask your bank what it declined
Contact the card issuer with the date and details of the attempted YouTube charge. Ask whether it can see the authorization attempt and whether the card permits online transactions, international transactions if relevant, and recurring payments using an e-mandate. The issuer is best placed to identify a bank-side decline; Google’s general troubleshooting guidance cannot diagnose an individual card.

Do not assume the Reserve Bank of India directly declined your specific transaction. The documented India-specific requirement concerns the e-mandate for recurring payments; the immediate cause could instead be a bank restriction, a verification issue or another account or card problem.
Choose an alternative only if YouTube offers it
If your card cannot support recurring automatic payments, Google says some new YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscribers may be prompted to choose a prepaid plan. Payment methods vary by country and billing platform, so use the options displayed for your own account rather than assuming a particular alternative is available.
