The latest operating evidence does not show a contracting Games Workshop. For the 52 weeks ended 31 May 2026, the company reported record group revenue and profit before tax, higher core sales, higher core operating profit and higher earnings per share. Its 16 September 2026 trading update said performance to 30 August was in line with the board’s expectations.
That does not, by itself, explain a particular share-price decline. A stock can fall while profits rise if investors had expected even faster growth, if the valuation multiple contracts, if a volatile income stream disappoints, or if the wider market weakens. No dated price series, valuation comparison or analyst-consensus data is established here, so attributing a specific fall to one cause would be speculation. The correct approach is to separate business performance from expectations and valuation, then test each against the same dates.

Why is Games Workshop’s share price falling?
There is no defensible single answer without first specifying the fall: the start date, end date, price-only or total-return measure, and the relevant market backdrop. The latest full-year results point to stronger operations, not weaker ones, but shareholders value the future stream of cash flows rather than the last set of accounts.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Fundamentals: sales, margins, cash generation or guidance may have weakened relative to what investors expected.
- Expectations: results may be good but below unusually high assumptions about miniature sales, licensing or future expansion.
- Valuation: investors may be willing to pay a lower price-to-earnings or cash-flow multiple even though earnings continue to grow.
Market-wide moves can operate alongside all three. A comparison with a dated UK equity or consumer-discretionary benchmark is therefore necessary before describing a company-specific cause. The annual report’s shareholder-value chart is not a substitute for that work: it combines year-end share price with the dividend per share declared during the year, whereas a price chart measures only the share price.
What the latest results actually show
Games Workshop Group PLC’s results for the 52 weeks ended 31 May 2026, announced on 28 July 2026, distinguish the core miniature business from licensing. The reported figures are in pounds sterling and are statutory company figures unless otherwise identified.
| Measure | FY2025/26 | FY2024/25 | Change | What it tells an investor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Group revenue | £659.7 million | Not stated in the results summary | Record group level reported by the company | Includes core revenue and licensing |
| Core revenue | £626.8 million | £565.0 million | About 10.9% higher, calculated from reported figures | Shows growth in the main miniature operation |
| Licensing revenue | £32.9 million | £52.5 million | About 37.3% lower, calculated from reported figures | Explains the principal year-on-year revenue weakness |
| Profit before tax | £275.7 million | £262.8 million | About 4.9% higher, calculated from reported figures | Record group profit before tax according to the company |
| Earnings per share | 624.0p | 594.9p | About 4.9% higher, calculated from reported figures | Higher reported earnings per share |
| Core operating profit | £245.1 million | £211.8 million | About 15.7% higher, calculated from reported figures | Core profit grew faster than core sales |
| Net increase in cash before dividends paid | £210.3 million | £197.5 million | About 6.5% higher, calculated from reported figures | Strong cash generation before distributions |
| Dividends declared and paid per share | 485p | 520p | About 6.7% lower, calculated from reported figures | Distributions are variable, not progressive by promise |
Chief executive Kevin Rountree said in the 28 July 2026 results announcement that “Games Workshop and the Warhammer hobby are in great shape.” He also said the group delivered record revenue and profit before tax because of another good performance from the core business. Those are management statements, not independent forecasts, but the reported numbers support the narrower point that the core operation expanded during the period.
The licensing decline needs separate analysis
Licensing revenue fell from £52.5 million to £32.9 million, while licensing operating profit fell from £49.5 million to £29.9 million. The annual report says the prior year benefited from a “surprise but very positive product release.” That makes the comparison unusually difficult: the earlier figure is not a dependable normal-year run rate.
Licensing also depends on partners developing and delivering projects. Management described the industry backdrop as challenging and said outcomes depend broadly on licensees’ execution. A weaker licensing year can reduce group growth, profit mix and investor enthusiasm even when miniatures perform well. It is therefore a plausible source of disappointment relative to expectations, but the available company statements do not prove that it caused any particular share-price move.
When reviewing a price reaction, keep licensing separate from core sales. Combining them into one growth rate can hide whether customers are buying more miniatures or whether a partner project created a one-off spike.

How to assess the company’s long-term prospects
Long-term analysis should focus on whether Games Workshop can turn customer demand into durable, profitable and cash-generative growth. The relevant evidence falls into six connected areas.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →1. Core customer demand and international reach
The company says it designed, made and sold record quantities of miniatures during FY2025/26. It reported constant-currency sales growth across its three sales channels and established countries, plus growth through its export team to 46 countries. Constant-currency measures are company-defined performance measures; compare them with the statutory pound figures rather than treating them as interchangeable.
The annual report also provides an important qualification: store performance was uneven. Not all stores met management’s satisfaction, although all but a few were profitable. That distinction matters. Record unit volumes can coexist with underperforming locations, and profitable stores can still have room for better sales, staffing or stock management.
For a durable-demand thesis, track several indicators together:
- core revenue and miniature volumes, rather than licensing alone;
- sales across retail, trade and online channels;
- customer activity in established countries and the 46-country export operation;
- store profitability and the proportion of locations meeting management’s objectives;
- evidence that new customers continue to enter and remain in the hobby.
One strong year is evidence of momentum, not proof of an indefinitely high growth rate.
2. Production and logistics capacity
Games Workshop says it is building Factory 4 in the UK to increase production capacity. It also expects a new Sawley logistics facility to be operational in summer 2027. These projects could reduce stock constraints and support more volume, but the annual report does not establish their eventual return on investment or eliminate construction, commissioning and staffing risk.

Capacity is valuable only when it is matched by demand and executed efficiently. Investors should watch:
- capital expenditure and the timing of cash outflows;
- factory throughput, product availability and stock-outs;
- warehouse throughput and delivery reliability;
- whether the new facilities open on schedule and at the intended capacity;
- the effect of additional depreciation, wages and operating costs on margins.
A delay could restrain sales; an overbuild could depress returns on invested capital. The facilities are growth options, not guaranteed growth.
3. Sales growth versus cost growth
Core operating profit rose from £211.8 million to £245.1 million. At the same time, core operating expenses increased to 29.2% of core sales from 28.4%. Operating expenses grew 13.8%, faster than core sales growth of 10.9%, as the company invested in facilities, information technology, jobs and expansion.

This is a classic reinvestment question. Higher costs can be sensible if they create capacity and future sales, but the return must eventually appear in revenue and operating profit. Future results should be read for three things: whether core sales growth remains healthy, whether expense growth moderates after the investment phase, and whether operating profit continues to grow faster than sales without relying on unusually favorable licensing.
Do not treat a single margin percentage as a permanent target. The more useful test is the direction of profit conversion over several reporting periods and the cash required to achieve it.
4. Licensing as upside and volatility
Licensing can add high-margin revenue without the same manufacturing model as miniatures, but it is less predictable. The 2025/26 decline demonstrates why it should be modelled as a range of possible outcomes rather than extrapolated from the prior year.

A disciplined forecast should show a core-business case first, then add licensing assumptions explicitly. Ask whether a projected release has a named partner, a credible delivery timetable and evidence that revenue recognition will occur in the forecast period. If those conditions are unknown, use a conservative licensing contribution and identify the uncertainty.

The group reported a net increase in cash before dividends paid of £210.3 million in FY2025/26, compared with £197.5 million in the preceding year. The annual report describes the company as debt-free. It also says management reserves a three-month working-capital buffer of £120 million, alongside planned investment and certain staff payments, before treating cash as surplus.
The stated policy is to return cash judged to be surplus after those needs. It is not a promise of a progressive dividend. Dividends declared and paid were 485p per share in FY2025/26, down from 520p in FY2024/25. In the 16 September 2026 dividend and trading update, the company declared 70p per share, taking dividends announced so far in FY2026/27 to £3.00 per share.
Dividend investors should therefore distinguish:
- cash generated by operations;
- cash retained for working capital and factory or logistics investment;
- cash that management considers surplus;
- the timing and size of each distribution.
A high recent payout is not the same as a guaranteed future yield. A lower payout can reflect investment or timing rather than a failing business, while a large payout can reduce the cash available for expansion.
6. Disclosed operating risks
The annual report identifies foreign-exchange movements, raw-material price changes, staffing and capacity, inventory and logistics, tariffs, and reliance on licensing partners. Games Workshop says it does not hedge raw-material price risk under its long-standing treasury policy. These are exposures to monitor, not evidence that any one of them caused a recent share-price decline.

Currency matters because the group sells internationally while reporting in sterling. Raw-material inflation can pressure margins. Staffing shortages can constrain factories, stores or warehouses. Inventory and logistics problems can turn demand into missed sales. Tariffs can alter landed costs or pricing. Partner delays can reduce licensing receipts. The correct question is how each risk appears in reported revenue, margin, cash flow and guidance over time.

How to investigate a specific share-price fall
Use a reproducible process before writing that “the shares fell because” of a particular event.
- Define the window. Record the exact trading day and closing prices at the start and end. State whether the calculation is price-only or includes dividends.
- Identify the event calendar. Mark results, trading updates, dividend announcements, product or licensing news, facility announcements and major market events within the window.
- Compare reported results with expectations. Separate core revenue, licensing revenue, operating profit, earnings per share and cash from management’s outlook. A result can be objectively strong but still disappoint if expectations were higher.
- Measure valuation at both dates. Calculate a clearly defined price-to-earnings measure, using the same earnings basis at each date. Also examine enterprise value to operating profit or cash flow if the data is available. Do not mix trailing and forecast earnings without labelling the change.
- Test growth assumptions. Check whether the market had priced in exceptional miniature growth, a repeat of the unusually strong licensing release, faster facility benefits or larger dividends.
- Compare the wider market. Examine a broad UK index and a relevant consumer-discretionary comparison over exactly the same dates. A simultaneous sector fall points to a different explanation from an isolated company move.
- Check total return separately. A share-price drop around an ex-dividend date may partly reflect a distribution leaving the price. Keep price-only and dividend-adjusted results distinct.
- Write only what the evidence supports. If the data shows correlation but not causation, say that the move coincided with the event rather than claiming the event caused it.
No contemporaneous share-price series, valuation multiple, analyst consensus or market attribution is established in the available company material. Fresh market data is required for a dated explanation.
Building bull, base and bear cases
A scenario model makes assumptions visible. It should not present forecasts as company guidance.
| Scenario | Core demand | Margins and costs | Licensing | Capacity and cash | Valuation question |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bull | Miniature volumes and channel sales remain strong across established countries and exports | Investment spending produces operating leverage after facilities and IT are deployed | New partner projects add revenue without repeating a one-off assumption indefinitely | Factory 4 and Sawley open effectively, with cash generation funding distributions and expansion | Does the growth rate justify the multiple investors are paying? |
| Base | Core growth moderates from the latest 10.9% reported rate but remains positive | Expenses remain elevated while the company completes planned investment | Licensing returns to a more normal, uneven contribution | Projects arrive broadly as planned and the company retains its working-capital buffer | Is the current price reasonable for moderate, not exceptional, growth? |
| Bear | Demand slows, store underperformance persists or availability limits sales | Cost inflation, staffing or execution pressure reduces profit conversion | Partner delays or weak releases keep licensing below recent expectations | Facility delays, logistics problems or weaker cash reduce surplus distributions | How far can the earnings multiple fall if growth and dividends reset together? |
For each case, specify numerical assumptions for core growth, operating margin, licensing revenue, capital spending, dividends and the valuation multiple. Change one assumption at a time to see what drives the result. Label every forecast and multiple as analysis, not as a Games Workshop commitment.
What the 16 September 2026 update adds
The latest located operating statement, dated 16 September 2026, said trading to 30 August 2026 was in line with board expectations. It also declared a 70p-per-share dividend, bringing dividends announced so far in FY2026/27 to £3.00 per share. “In line” is a status update, not a guarantee of full-year earnings, margins or future dividends.
That announcement is useful because it provides a more recent operating checkpoint than the 31 May year-end results. It does not provide a complete replacement for annual results: it does not, on the information available here, establish full-year revenue, licensing performance, cash generation or valuation.
A practical checklist for investors
- Have you written down the exact dates and prices of the decline?
- Did you separate core and licensing revenue?
- Did you compare results with expectations rather than with the prior year alone?
- Did you distinguish statutory pounds from constant-currency or other company-defined measures?
- Did you examine operating expenses alongside core sales?
- Did you account for Factory 4, the Sawley facility and other investment before judging free cash?
- Did you treat dividends as variable surplus-cash distributions?
- Did you compare the stock with a broad market and relevant sector over the same period?
- Did you calculate valuation using a consistent earnings definition?
- Are your bull, base and bear assumptions clearly labelled as your own analysis?
Bottom line
Games Workshop’s latest reported operations are not a straightforward “business is deteriorating” story. Core revenue reached £626.8 million, group revenue reached £659.7 million, profit before tax reached £275.7 million and earnings per share reached 624.0p for the 52 weeks ended 31 May 2026. The main setback was licensing, down to £32.9 million from £52.5 million after an unusually strong prior-year release. Core costs are rising as the company invests, and future returns depend on executing Factory 4, the Sawley logistics project and international growth.
