Start by checking how widespread the problem is
Notice what happens when you try to watch: does Hulu close, freeze, or show a playback error? Try another movie, episode, or recording. Hulu recommends trying different content as a way to check whether a problem is limited to one program or affects more content. - One title fails but others play: The issue may be specific to that content or stream; investigate that before changing device settings.
- Only one device fails: Check that device’s Hulu app, system software, and connection. This pattern is a diagnostic clue, not proof that the device is at fault.
- Several devices or content types fail at about the same time: A shared network issue or a service-side problem becomes more plausible, but the pattern alone cannot tell you which.
- Other apps or websites also have trouble: Look into your internet connection as well as Hulu. This points to a possible broader connectivity issue, not a confirmed Hulu outage.
If possible, compare another device on the same network, or try the affected device on another available connection. These comparisons are practical ways to narrow down the scope; they are not an official Hulu outage test.

Work through the troubleshooting steps
1. Try different content
Test another title or recording. If only one item fails, that is useful information to share with support; it does not establish why that particular stream is failing.

2. Fully close and reopen Hulu
Exit the app completely, rather than simply returning to your device’s home screen, then launch it again. Hulu includes fully closing the app in its troubleshooting guidance.
3. Check for app and device updates
Look for Hulu updates in your device’s app store, and check the device’s system-update settings. Hulu recommends keeping both the app and device software updated. Its instructions differ by platform, so follow the directions for your specific phone, streaming player, television, or console in Hulu’s app and system update guide.

4. Clear cache or data if your device supports it
Some devices offer a setting to clear an app’s cache or data; others do not. Hulu recommends clearing these temporary files as a troubleshooting step. The controls and effects vary by platform, and clearing data may affect your sign-in state, so check your device’s instructions before proceeding.

5. Check your internet connection
See whether other apps or websites work, and run a connection or speed check on the device if one is available. Hulu’s guidance recommends checking your connection and comparing speed results with its recommendations. Connection trouble can interfere with playback, but it does not explain every crash. A problem across multiple services makes the network worth investigating; it is not a reason by itself to replace a router or other equipment.

Can you confirm whether Hulu is down?
Not from a crash or these troubleshooting steps alone. The Hulu Help Center pages referenced here offer troubleshooting and support, but do not establish a verified live status for Hulu. A failure across multiple devices could fit a service problem, but could also stem from a shared network issue. Treat those patterns as clues, not confirmation, and avoid concluding that Hulu is either up or down without a current, verified status source.
