House House, the Australian developer behind the cooperative adventure game, says it made that decision in response to the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement’s designation of Microsoft Games and Xbox as boycott targets. The studio says it would like Xbox players to play the game, but will not release an Xbox version unless Microsoft and/or Xbox are removed from those targets.
What House House announced
House House announced in June 2026 that Big Walk would be released for computers, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, with Xbox absent from the platform list. After players asked whether the omission was a technical problem or a temporary scheduling decision, the studio published an explanation.

House House wrote: “We have made the decision not to release Big Walk on Xbox, in accordance with the Palestinian-led BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement’s call to boycott Microsoft, and their designation of Microsoft Games as a priority boycott target.”

Is Big Walk coming to Xbox?
There is no announced Xbox release date. House House’s condition is that Microsoft and/or Xbox must first be removed as BDS boycott targets. Unless the studio changes that position or the designation changes, an Xbox edition should not be expected.
That is different from saying an Xbox version is merely delayed. House House has described the decision as an ongoing boycott policy, so an eventual release remains conditional rather than scheduled.
Where you can play Big Walk
| Platform | Status reported for 2026 | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| PC and other computers | Announced platform | Computer players can access the game through its supported computer release. |

| Nintendo Switch 2 | Available, according to contemporaneous coverage | Switch 2 owners can play the game on Nintendo’s newer console. |
| Xbox consoles | Not released | There is no Xbox version for Xbox players or their Xbox-based friends. |
Coverage from Pure Xbox identifies the game as available on PS5 and Switch 2, while the original announcement grouped the computer versions with those consoles. The platform information establishes availability, but it does not establish that every version has identical performance, feature support or cross-platform multiplayer behavior.

Why the decision affects a cooperative game differently
Big Walk is designed as a cooperative adventure, so platform availability is also a social-access issue. An Xbox player cannot join friends through an Xbox release because no such release exists. House House explicitly acknowledged that consequence: “This decision means that some people will miss out on playing Big Walk with their friends, and we understand the disappointment we’re causing. We are disappointed too.”
The statement does not say whether the computer, PS5 and Switch 2 versions support cross-platform play, nor does it describe a workaround for Xbox owners. Players should therefore avoid assuming that buying another version will automatically preserve their existing Xbox friend group or progression.
What the BDS rationale means in this case
The BDS movement’s cited advocacy material lists Microsoft, including Xbox and Surface, as boycottable. That document gives the movement’s stated rationale as allegations that Microsoft provides Azure cloud and artificial-intelligence services to the Israeli military. This is the movement’s advocacy explanation; it should not be read as an independently adjudicated finding established by House House or by this article.

House House says it is following that call and applying the designation to its own distribution decision. The studio’s statement does not claim that the game’s technology, publishing arrangements or Xbox certification created a separate problem. Its stated basis is the company’s ethical position regarding a platform owner named by the boycott campaign.
How Big Walk was performing when the controversy surfaced
The Xbox decision arrived as Big Walk was receiving strong attention. Windows Central described it as a cooperative adventure released on August 4, 2026, and reported sales of more than one million copies in six days. That sales number is a secondary publication report, not a primary sales announcement cited by House House.
Contemporaneous coverage also reported a 91 score on Metacritic. Review-aggregator scores can change as more reviews are added or as the site updates its calculations, so the figure is best treated as a time-sensitive report rather than a permanent specification of the game.

Xbox owners
You cannot buy or play an Xbox edition because none has been released. There is no announced date to wait for, and House House has tied any future release to a change in the BDS target status it cited.
Friends choosing a platform
If your group wants to play together, confirm which platforms the game’s multiplayer supports before purchasing. The available evidence confirms PC, PS5 and Switch 2 versions, but does not confirm cross-play between them.

Players evaluating the boycott
The decision is House House’s stated application of the BDS call. You can separate two questions: the practical result (no Xbox version) and the political rationale (the movement’s stated objection to Microsoft’s alleged cloud and AI support for the Israeli military).
Players considering the game on another system
PS5, Switch 2 and computer versions are the announced alternatives. Check the store listing for your edition for current online requirements, local-cooperative support and any version-specific features, because those details are not established by the platform announcement itself.
Bottom line
Big Walk is not on Xbox because House House says it is honoring the BDS movement’s boycott designation of Microsoft Games and Xbox. The studio would like Xbox players to have access but says it will not release there while that designation remains. For now, the game’s announced and reported platforms are computers, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
