Why HFCL Stock Tripled in Six Months: AI, Defence and Order-Book Growth

HFCL shares had tripled over the six months preceding an October 6, 2026, report by The Economic Times. The report linked investor interest to a larger order book, telecom demand, defence and aerospace activity, rising overseas revenue and global AI-related investment. That is an explanation of the rally, not proof that any one factor caused it or that the share price will keep rising. HFCL’s FY26 results show strong growth in revenue and profit, while its capacity and margin figures include targets that still have to be delivered.

What does “tripled in six months” mean?

The Economic Times described the move in its October 6, 2026, article. The six-month start and end dates, price basis and adjusted return are not established here, so treat “tripled” as the article’s description rather than an independently recalculated performance figure. Share-price gains reflect expectations as well as reported business results.

The operating context is more concrete: HFCL reported higher FY26 revenue, EBITDA and profit, along with a much larger year-end order book. The company’s reported results support a stronger business outlook; they do not establish that the share-price rally is justified at any particular valuation.

What do HFCL’s FY26 results show?

HFCL’s April 30, 2026, results announcement reported the following FY26 figures. The year-over-year growth rates and comparison figures below are from the company’s announcement.

Measure FY25 FY26 Reported change
Revenue Not stated in the cited FY26 results summary ₹4,949.27 crore Up 21.77% year over year
EBITDA Not stated in the cited FY26 results summary ₹826.75 crore Up 63.15% year over year
Profit after tax (PAT) Not stated in the cited FY26 results summary ₹329.44 crore Up 90.14% year over year
Year-end order book ₹9,967 crore ₹21,206 crore More than doubled
Export revenue ₹497 crore, 12% of revenue ₹2,047 crore, approximately 41% of revenue Export share rose substantially

The export share is 41% in HFCL’s results; The Economic Times rounded the FY26 figure to 40%. Use the company’s ₹2,047 crore and approximately 41% when precision matters. Higher profit growth than revenue growth is consistent with improving profitability in the reported year, but it does not establish that the same growth or margin trend will persist.

How much of the outlook rests on the order book?

HFCL reported a ₹21,206 crore order book at the end of FY26, compared with ₹9,967 crore at the end of FY25. The Economic Times reported a further increase to ₹26,665 crore at the end of June 2026, nearly five times FY26 revenue. That June figure is reported by the newspaper; it is not independently established here from a company filing.

An order book is work awarded or otherwise recorded as orders, not revenue already earned. Its value to investors depends on the timing and successful execution of contracts, product mix, costs and when sales are recognized. It should not be treated as a guaranteed revenue or profit forecast.

HFCL’s announcements index lists a September 1, 2026, long-term supply agreement worth approximately US$244 million (about ₹2,329 crore), and a September 14 decision approving approximately ₹820 crore of additional investment in optical-fibre, cable and preform capacity. These announcement titles indicate further export and capacity activity; the full terms and schedules are not established by the index listing alone.

What are AI and optical fibre contributing to the story?

The Economic Times connected investor interest to global capital spending on AI-related technologies and the resulting demand context for data-centre and telecom infrastructure. HFCL’s April 2026 investor presentation also discussed AI and data centres as an opportunity. Those market-opportunity claims are the company’s framing, not independently measured evidence that AI investment will convert into a specific amount of HFCL revenue.

The newspaper reported that HFCL’s optical-fibre capacity had risen to 34 million fibre-kilometres from 28 million, and optical-fibre-cable capacity to 43 million from 34 million. It also reported a plan for a preform facility—preform is a high-purity glass-rod input used in fibre production—with annual capacity of 300 tonnes by July 2029 at a cost of ₹580 crore. These are reported capacities and a planned facility, not confirmation that all planned capacity is operating. The September capacity-investment decision is a later announcement, but its listing does not establish revised commissioning dates or completed output.

How important are exports?

Exports were a substantial part of FY26 revenue: HFCL reported ₹2,047 crore, or approximately 41%, compared with ₹497 crore and 12% in FY25. HFCL’s April investor presentation set an export target of 50% or more from FY27 onward. The Economic Times separately reported that the company expected international markets to contribute more than 60% of revenue by the end of FY27. These are targets or expectations, not achieved results; the article’s rounded FY26 export share is slightly different from the company’s reported percentage.

A higher export share can broaden the customer base, but it also makes execution across international markets more consequential. The reported mix does not, by itself, reveal export profitability, payment timing or how much of the order book will convert in each period.

What is confirmed in defence, and what remains in development?

The Economic Times reported a defence order book of ₹2,300 crore at the end of June 2026, and said HFCL began setting up an ammunition manufacturing complex during the June quarter. It described activity in surveillance radars, thermal imaging and tactical communications. The reported defence order-book figure is a newspaper-reported figure, distinct from the company’s FY26 total order-book figure.

HFCL’s February 3, 2026, investor-call transcript described orders in radars, electronic fuzes and electro-optical systems, including thermal weapon sights, as well as a domestic UAV-maker contract for thermal cameras used in surveillance. The same call distinguished those orders from pipeline work: drone-detection and foliage-penetration radars were in advanced validation, while specialized drone platforms remained under technology-transfer discussions. Validation and discussions should not be counted as secured orders or established revenue.

How should investors read the FY27 growth and margin figures?

The October 6 Economic Times article reported FY27 guidance of 40% revenue growth and a 23% EBITDA margin, describing both as raised from earlier estimates of 20%. The official HFCL materials identified here do not confirm those precise FY27 figures. HFCL’s April 2026 investor presentation instead states a target of a 20–21% EBITDA margin by FY29. The FY27 numbers should therefore be attributed to the newspaper report, not presented as verified company guidance; the FY29 margin figure is a company target, not a result.

The distinction matters because forecast growth and margin targets depend on order conversion, capacity, customer mix and execution. Comparing an annual reported result with a later-year target without labeling the difference can make a plan look like an achieved outcome.

What risks and valuation questions matter after the rally?

The Economic Times cited a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 64 against a five-year average of 39, and flagged weak market sentiment and geopolitical uncertainty as short-term risks. Those multiples are the article’s point-in-time comparison, not a current valuation calculation. A higher multiple can leave less room for disappointment if growth, margins or execution fall short of expectations.

  • Order conversion: Track whether the large order book turns into recognized revenue and cash, and on what timetable.
  • Margins and mix: Compare realized margins with company targets, and distinguish higher-value product sales from headline revenue growth.
  • Capacity delivery: Watch for updates on fibre, cable and preform expansion, including investment and commissioning progress.
  • Export concentration: Assess whether the higher international share is accompanied by sustainable execution and profitability.
  • Defence maturity: Separate awarded contracts from products still in validation or under discussion.
  • Price versus performance: Compare valuation with reported earnings and realized cash generation, not just anticipated growth.

For any precise six-month share-return comparison, specify the start and end dates and whether prices are closing or intraday, adjusted or unadjusted. The headline’s reported tripling alone does not provide those details.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
