Florida Panthers defenseman Gustav Forsling missed the team’s Oct. 1, 2026, game against the San Jose Sharks with an upper-body injury. He skated in warmups but left the ice early. The Panthers listed him as day to day in their recap the following day; they have not announced a diagnosis or return date.
Why was Gustav Forsling scratched?
The Panthers attributed Forsling’s absence to an upper-body injury. He took part in pregame warmups on Thursday, Oct. 1, but left the ice early and did not play against San Jose. The team’s scratch announcement did not identify when or how the injury happened.
Who replaced Forsling in the lineup?
Uvis Balinskis entered the lineup in Forsling’s place. Separately, Dmitry Kulikov moved up to play alongside Aaron Ekblad on Florida’s top defensive pair. The Panthers announced those lineup changes with the scratch.
What is Forsling’s current status?
In its Oct. 2 recap of Florida’s 4–3 overtime loss to San Jose, the team described Forsling as day to day. That is the latest specific status in the Panthers’ reports; it does not confirm when he will return. The reports do not give a diagnosis, severity, treatment plan, or further timetable.

What happened before the scratch?
Forsling had scored Florida’s overtime winner in its season opener against Carolina on Sept. 29, with 4.3 seconds remaining. The Panthers’ scratch report said that, at the time of publication, he had 221 career points—60 goals and 161 assists—in 558 games.
