Rockstar says GTA 6 will still satirize contemporary culture, but it is steering away from direct portrayals of particular real people, events, or movements. In a LOVE Magazine interview, senior vice president of narrative Rupert Humphries said the studio prefers original, exaggerated versions of recognizable phenomena—an approach he believes can make the game feel current without tying it too closely to a moment that may quickly pass.

Humphries said Rockstar wants its games to feel specific to the time they are released while not reflecting the real world too literally. “We don’t want to be too specific about any particular person, event, movement or anything like that,” he said in the LOVE Magazine interview, reproduced at smallo.au.

That helps explain the balance Rockstar is describing: keep the world recognizable as contemporary, but use invented details and wider themes rather than relying on references whose meaning may depend on a short-lived news cycle.
