Googlebook’s cross-device features may not work with a Samsung phone because Samsung support was reportedly missing when the feature launched. A report published October 7, 2026, said Google expected to add support “over the coming weeks,” but that is a reported expectation—not an official compatibility guarantee or a confirmed current rollout status. Google’s support pages set out general requirements for cross-device services but do not say when Samsung phones are fully supported. Check your phone model, Android version, Googlebook OS and the specific feature you want to use before assuming the issue is a setting you can fix.
What Googlebook’s cross-device feature includes
“Cross-device services” is a group of features, not one switch that makes every phone-and-laptop connection work. Depending on support and settings, you may be able to continue tasks, use phone apps, sync notifications and Do Not Disturb, access phone files, or share the phone’s internet connection with Instant Hotspot. Google describes the general service and its requirements in its Googlebook cross-device services guide.

A report republished by Creative Collaboration on October 7, 2026, said these features were not working with Samsung phones running Android 17 at Googlebook’s launch. It attributed to Google employee Mishaal Rahman the expectation that support would arrive “over the coming weeks.” That report may no longer reflect current availability, and it does not establish a confirmed rollout date. Google’s support documentation requires Android 17 or higher but does not specifically confirm Samsung compatibility or a date for it.
Check the basic requirements first
- Check both operating systems. Google requires the Googlebook to be on the latest Googlebook OS and the phone to run Android 17 or higher. The requirements are listed in Google’s cross-device services guide.
- Use the same Google Account. Sign in to the same account on the phone and Googlebook.
- Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both devices. Connect both to the same Wi-Fi network, or use a personal hotspot where appropriate.
- Update apps. Open the Google Play Store on both devices and install available app updates.
- Enable Cross-device services on both. On an Android phone, the documented route is Google > All services > Cross-device services. You can also search Settings for “Cross-device services.”
Google’s requirements also call for cross-device services to be enabled on both devices. Meeting these general requirements does not, by itself, confirm that a particular Samsung model or feature is supported.

Turn on the setting for the feature you want
Enabling the overall service may not enable every feature. Check its individual toggle as well:
- Continue tasks or sync phone activity: turn on Continue activity, then enable the specific item you need, such as Notifications, Files & media, Apps, or Do Not Disturb.
- Access phone files: enable Files & media under Continue activity. Google’s phone-file access guide also requires the same Wi-Fi network, Bluetooth, the same Google Account, Android 17 or newer, and Cross-device services. Opening a file can depend on whether the file type has a compatible app.
- Sync notifications: enable Notification Sync. Google’s notification-sync guide lists Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, the same account and network, up-to-date Google apps, and Cross-device services among the requirements. Some system, silent, media-control, or Do Not Disturb-suppressed notifications do not sync.
- Share mobile internet: enable Internet sharing and Instant hotspot. Google’s internet-sharing guide explains Googlebook setup.
Account for Samsung’s hotspot differences
Google’s Android help page says Instant Hotspot is available on Samsung S25 and newer; for older Samsung devices, it points to Samsung Auto Hotspot instead. The same page says automatic Wi-Fi sharing is unavailable on Samsung. These are Android-to-Android hotspot notes, not a blanket confirmation that those Samsung phones work with Googlebook cross-device services. If hotspot sharing is the feature that fails, check which method your phone and Googlebook support rather than treating Auto Hotspot as a guaranteed Googlebook fix. See Google’s Android hotspot guidance.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
Check whether the network is blocking discovery
Cross-device features can fail even when the account, toggles and versions look right. Google says the Wi-Fi network must support Multicast DNS and warns that some public or corporate networks may not work. Try both devices on a personal Wi-Fi network or a personal hotspot instead. If the feature works there, the original network may be preventing device discovery.

Refresh the connection and retry
- Turn Cross-device services off on both devices.
- Wait 10 seconds, then turn the service back on on both.
- Confirm Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on and both devices are using the same network.
- Check the Play Store for app updates, then restart one or both devices.
- Retry the specific feature and its individual toggle.
These are among Google’s recommended troubleshooting steps in its cross-device services guide. If they do not help, the unresolved question may be Samsung compatibility for your exact phone and feature, rather than a missing general setting.
