Gaming monitors can be cheap because the category spans very different sizes, resolutions, refresh rates, brightness levels and panel technologies—not because every low price reflects the same kind of screen. October’s offers are part of Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days, which PC Gamer reported as running October 6–7, 2026; Amazon’s main Prime Day event ran June 23–26. The dated deals include both a budget 120 Hz LCD and discounted QD-OLED models, but a sale price alone does not reveal why a particular monitor is discounted.
Why gaming monitors have such a wide range of prices
“Gaming monitor” is a broad product category. A basic 1080p LCD and a 1440p OLED with a high refresh rate are not equivalent products, even if both are marketed for gaming. Screen size, resolution, refresh rate, panel technology and brightness all help define what a monitor offers—and which price tier it occupies.

That difference is visible in PC Gamer’s October 7, 2026 roundup, which included the 22-inch, 120 Hz MSI Pro MP225 at $64.99 alongside deals grouped into 1080p, 1440p, 4K, ultrawide and OLED categories. The price is a dated report, not a guarantee that the offer or stock remains available.
These examples show why a low price is not enough to judge value. It may reflect a more entry-level feature set, while a more expensive monitor may offer a larger screen, higher resolution or faster refresh rate. The available deal reporting does not provide the bill of materials, retailer margins or discount strategy for any named model, so it cannot establish exactly why a specific product costs what it does.

What the October QD-OLED deals show
PC Gamer’s October 6, 2026 coverage listed two 27-inch, 1440p QD-OLED monitors at different prices and performance levels:
| Model | Dated Amazon price | Reported specifications | Brightness note |
|---|---|---|---|
| AOC Q27GADE | $279.99; article stated a prior price of $329.99 | 144 Hz, 0.03 ms response time, QD-OLED | PC Gamer said brightness was not stated in the Amazon listing and assessed this model as dimmer than the comparison monitor. |
| AOC Agon Pro AG276QZD2 | $332.49; article stated a prior price of $349.99 | 240 Hz, QD-OLED | PC Gamer described it as using a brighter panel than the Q27GADE. |
The listed prices and the brightness comparison are PC Gamer’s reporting and evaluation from October 6, not a live price check or an independent lab test. Still, the comparison illustrates why two products with the same screen size, resolution and broad panel type can differ in price: the AG276QZD2 was listed at $52.50 more and offered a 240 Hz refresh rate rather than 144 Hz, with PC Gamer also describing its panel as brighter.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
QD-OLED does not by itself specify a monitor’s brightness. Check the manufacturer’s specifications and current listing for the exact model rather than assuming all QD-OLED screens perform alike.
What manufacturing costs and market trends can—and can’t—explain
There is broader industry context for display prices, but it does not identify the cause of an individual deal. Omdia reported in February 2026 that depreciation of LCD and OLED manufacturing equipment is accelerating, easing cost pressures on panel makers. It said depreciation can account for up to one-third of manufacturing costs across a range of display applications. That figure is not a monitor-specific cost breakdown and does not show that savings were passed on to shoppers.

- Smooth motion: 240Hz refresh rate and fast 0.5ms response time provide crisp visuals and fluid movement with less input lag.
- Seamless gaming: FreeSync Premium and HDMI VRR eliminate tearing for smooth, responsive PC and console gameplay.
- Fast IPS: Faster 0.5ms response with excellent color accuracy across wide IPS viewing angles.
- Rich color: 99% sRGB color coverage delivers vivid, detailed imagery with strong accuracy.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star certified display lowers blue light while preserving color quality.
Omdia also reported 133.4 million desktop-monitor shipments in 2025, up 4.3% year over year, and said OLED gaming monitors are gaining share. At the same time, it noted that high manufacturing costs keep most OLED products in the premium segment. That helps put a discounted OLED price in perspective: an offer can look striking beside earlier prices without making OLED monitors generally inexpensive.
Neither shipment growth nor manufacturing-cost trends proves why a specific monitor is on sale. A dated retailer price does not reveal whether the manufacturer, retailer or another factor explains the discount.

How to judge a Prime Big Deal Days monitor price
- Compare like with like. Check screen size and resolution first. A 1080p monitor, a 1440p display and a 4K model serve different budgets and performance needs; their prices are not directly comparable without those details.
- Check refresh rate. The two AOC examples were listed at 144 Hz and 240 Hz. Decide whether the higher rate matters for your use before paying more for it.
- Verify panel and brightness details. Look up the precise model and confirm its brightness from an official product page or the current retailer listing. Do not infer brightness from a label such as QD-OLED.
- Check price history and availability. Amazon says shoppers can view up to 365 days of price history for eligible products and cautions that deal availability changes. Compare the event price with the history rather than judging it only against a crossed-out reference price.
PC Gamer’s deal prices above are dated October 6, 2026. Amazon offers can change, so confirm the current price, stock and specifications before buying.
