A YouTube page in a Streamlabs Desktop Browser Source relies on the page’s player behavior and the source’s visibility settings; a video file on your computer uses the local Media Source’s Loop setting. First identify the source, then check whether playback stops at the end of a pass or when you change scenes.
Identify which source is playing the video
In Streamlabs Desktop, look at the item in the Sources list and open its properties. The three likely paths are different, so a loop setting for one does not necessarily apply to another:
- Browser Source: displays a web page or URL, such as a YouTube page. Playback and repeat behavior belong to the page or player, while Streamlabs settings govern what happens when the source is hidden or shown again.
- Media Share: a Streamlabs widget source for sharing public YouTube videos. Streamlabs documents it as separate from adding a webpage as a Browser Source, and the cited setup article does not establish that it has a repeat option.
- Media Source: plays a local video file. Its properties include a Loop option for replaying the file after it finishes.
Streamlabs explains Browser Source setup and visibility controls in its Browser Source documentation. Its Media Share setup guide describes the widget and its support for public YouTube links.
If the video is in a Browser Source
Check what happens when the source is hidden
Open the Browser Source properties and inspect these options:

- Shutdown source when not visible: Streamlabs says this stops the web page or video while the source is hidden. If playback stops after switching scenes or hiding the source, test with this option disabled.
- Refresh browser when scene becomes active: Streamlabs says this reloads the page when the source becomes visible again. A reload can interrupt playback or make it start over, so test with this option disabled if the problem coincides with returning to the scene.
Change one setting at a time and reproduce the same scene change. That helps distinguish a visibility or reload effect from a player that simply reaches the end of its video.
Check repeat behavior in the YouTube player or page
A Browser Source shows a web page; it does not use the local Media Source’s file-loop control. Check whether the specific player or embed offers repeat behavior, but do not assume the control is available or works identically for every video and embed context. The available Streamlabs documentation does not give universal steps for enabling repeat in every YouTube player context.

If the video is a local file
Open the local Media Source properties and confirm that Loop is enabled. The OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation describes Loop as replaying a file when playback completes.
Keep Loop distinct from Restart playback when source becomes active. The latter controls restart behavior when the source becomes active; it is not, by itself, the setting that continuously replays a file.

If the source is Media Share
Treat Media Share as a widget, not as a local file or an ordinary Browser Source. Streamlabs’ Media Share guide describes adding it as a source and using public YouTube video links. The guide does not establish a repeat control, so do not expect the local Media Source’s Loop checkbox to control a Media Share video.
Use the stop pattern to narrow down the cause
- It stops after one complete pass: if it is a local file, check Media Source Loop. If it is a Browser Source, investigate the player or page’s repeat behavior instead.
- It stops when you change scenes or hide the source: check Shutdown source when not visible.
- It restarts or loses its place when you return to the scene: check Refresh browser when scene becomes active, which reloads the Browser Source page.
- You are using Media Share: troubleshoot the widget and its setup separately; the cited guide does not confirm a repeat option.
These checks identify plausible causes from the documented controls; they do not establish one universal Streamlabs Desktop bug. Streamlabs’ YouTube live-streaming guide covers general setup but does not document this specific looping symptom.
