There is no single cause you can identify from “keeps stopping” alone. First determine whether YouTube ended the live event, viewers are seeing a playback interruption, or the live stream is still running but its recording is missing. For an encoder-fed demo, compare YouTube Studio’s stream-health messages with the encoder’s output and error logs, then check the stream’s auto-stop setting and any copyright or policy warnings.
First identify what “stopping” means
A product demo loop may be a live camera or screen feed sent by an encoder, or a prerecorded video or playlist replayed as a live stream. The troubleshooting steps for YouTube’s encoder settings do not diagnose every replay player or playlist. Before changing settings, note:
- Is the demo a live camera/screen feed, or a prerecorded video or playlist?
- Does YouTube Studio show the live event as ended, or do viewers only see a freeze or interruption?
- What message or warning appears in the Live Control Room?
- Does the encoder report errors, poor source quality, or high CPU load?
- How long had the stream been running, and are there copyright or policy notices?
These details separate a stopped transmission from a viewing problem or an archive that failed to appear.
Check stream settings for an intentional stop
In YouTube Studio, open the live stream’s settings and review auto-start and auto-stop. YouTube explains that “When these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from your encoder.” If you created the event with “Reuse settings,” those choices are copied too, so a reused event may inherit an auto-stop configuration you did not intend. A clean event end can look like a dropped feed, so compare the event status and timing with the encoder’s own logs. This check applies to encoder or mobile stream settings; it does not by itself explain a prerecorded-video player or playlist loop stopping.

Compare YouTube’s stream health with the encoder
For an encoder-fed stream, inspect the Live Control Room’s stream-health information and warnings, then check the encoder preview/output, errors, and CPU load. YouTube identifies encoder errors, source quality, and CPU load as useful clues to an encoder-side problem.
- If the encoder reports errors or its output is poor: update the encoder, check the local archive file for audio or video problems, and try another encoder if the issue persists.
- If the encoder looks healthy: investigate the outgoing internet connection from the streaming computer. Monitor YouTube’s stream health while checking for connection instability.
- If you use a backup encoder: test failover before depending on it during a real demo. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance suggests stopping the primary encoder or unplugging Ethernet to confirm the backup takes over. Do this as a controlled test, not during a broadcast you need to keep live.
A wired connection may be worth considering only if the diagnosis points to network instability or you need a wired connection; it is not a guaranteed fix for an unidentified cause.

Separate a live interruption from a missing archive
A live event that ended and a stream recording that failed to save are different problems. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” That guidance concerns archiving; it does not mean YouTube automatically ends the live transmission at 12 hours. If keeping the demo recording matters, make a local archive backup rather than relying on the YouTube archive alone.
Review copyright and policy notices
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies such content, it may show a placeholder and warn the creator to stop; if the content remains, or a strike applies, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Check YouTube Studio for copyright or Community Guidelines warnings and strikes when this branch is plausible. The fact that a demo stream stopped does not, by itself, show that copyright or policy enforcement was the cause.

A practical troubleshooting order
- Confirm whether the event ended, playback froze, or only the archive is missing.
- Read the Live Control Room’s stream-health message and warnings.
- For an encoder feed, compare that information with encoder output, error logs, source quality, and CPU load.
- Check the event’s auto-stop configuration, including settings carried over through “Reuse settings.”
- If the encoder appears healthy, investigate the outbound connection and test any failover setup in advance.
- Check Studio for copyright or policy notices, and use a local recording if the archive is important.
