The receiver may be on the wrong source, the phone may have media audio disabled, or that specific radio may support Bluetooth calls but not music streaming. First identify whether the silence affects music, calls, navigation, or every source; each can use a different audio path.
First identify which audio is missing
Check whether the problem affects streamed or stored music, phone calls, navigation prompts, or all sound from the receiver. Also note whether your phone is connected by Bluetooth alone, CarPlay, Android Auto, or USB. Pioneer treats Bluetooth music (A2DP), Bluetooth calls (HFP), and CarPlay or Android Auto audio as distinct paths, so a working connection—or a fix for one kind of audio—does not prove the others work. Try these checks in order

Select Bluetooth audio and check volume
Start a known track in a media app on your phone. On the Pioneer, select the Bluetooth Audio source (or the model’s equivalent), then raise the phone’s media volume and the receiver volume to a moderate level. A Bluetooth-connected status alone does not show that the phone is sending media to the radio.

Check the phone’s audio routing
On Android, open Bluetooth settings, select the paired Pioneer device, and make sure Media audio is enabled. Check the separate phone-call option if calls are also silent. If Media audio is unavailable, the receiver may support calls but not Bluetooth music; check the manual for your exact model. Samsung describes this calls-without-media possibility.

On iPhone, try another audio app if only one app is silent. Apple also recommends restarting the iPhone, switching Bluetooth off and on, following the vehicle’s manual for pairing, and keeping the phone and stereo software up to date. If multiple phones have been connected, renaming the iPhone may help. Apple’s connection guidance covers these checks.

Test calls and navigation separately
If music works but calls do not, test during an active call and check the call’s audio output and the receiver’s phone-call settings. If only navigation is silent, check the navigation app’s guidance volume and audio output. These symptoms point to a different path than Bluetooth music, so do not assume that repairing music will also fix calls or prompts.

Compare with FM or another receiver source
Select FM radio or another source you know should play, at a moderate volume. If it works, focus on Bluetooth source selection, the phone’s media setting, the app, or the pairing. If it is also silent, the fault may involve the receiver’s output setup or installation wiring rather than Bluetooth alone. Pioneer’s troubleshooting manual lists incorrectly connected cables as one possible cause of no sound. Check your model’s manual; do not alter installation wiring unless qualified. Delete the pairing from both devices, then pair again
If the basic checks do not help, remove the Pioneer from the phone’s saved Bluetooth devices and remove the phone from the receiver’s paired-device list. Pair them again using the instructions for your receiver model. Pioneer recommends clearing both device lists for certain Android connection failures; Apple also suggests restarting the phone and toggling Bluetooth.

Use the exact Pioneer model to decide what to do next
Find the model number on the receiver or in its system information, then consult that model’s manual for Bluetooth music support, source names, phone compatibility, firmware, and output settings. The cited Pioneer troubleshooting manual applies specifically to the DMH-ZF9650BT and DMH-ZF7650BT; its model-specific remedies may not apply to a different receiver.
If multiple receiver sources remain silent after these checks, Pioneer advises contacting a dealer or authorized service facility when troubleshooting does not resolve the problem. The available details do not identify your radio, phone, connection mode, or which audio types fail, so the steps above narrow down the cause rather than establish a diagnosis.
